I visited this lovely little corner shop in the Le Plateau-Mont-Royal neighborhood last Wednesday morning and it was nice to see they already had regulars sitting and knitting their projects. The shop carries nicer, higher-end yarns. There are a lot of knitted samples to pique your creative interest. I didn't try their tea and pastries, but they have a nice, small selection. I bought a few items that were specific to La Maison Tricotée. The staff was so nice, welcoming, and helpful. I would recommend La Maison Tricotée to knitters, crocheters and yarn lovers. I have just three words for you: Chocolate. Mint. Tea. Tastes as good as it smells. And it smells even better than the fresh waffles that were being made on a cold, rainy November afternoon. This newest of the yarn shops has a lot of gorgeous high-end wool to be drooled over. At about $25 for a ball of hand-painted sock yarn, these will have to be occasional rather than everyday treasures. (Note, though, that the prices here are in line with other similar shops in Montreal and online). I also bought some HiyaHiya bamboo needles which are nice and smooth -- faster than my regular bamboo dpns but less slippery than metal needles. Each pack of needles came with a bonus treat: a brass stitch marker in one, a sock pattern in another. Not sure if this is a feature of the manufacturer or of this shop. (If you don't know what dpns are, feel free to ignore this paragraph). What makes Tricotée different from other wool stores is that you can still support their business by having a tea and a treat even if you want to bring along your own project, say, with wool you've got hanging around at home. A crochet class was just getting underway as I was heading out. Classes seem to be at the back of the store, leaving plenty of space for other customers in front. read more

I had time to visit one yarn shop on a business trip to Montreal. I couldn't have chosen better and I wish there were more stars to give. The young lady working that day showed me all around when I asked about local, hand dyed yarns and told me interesting things about each brand. I had a delightful cup of tea and even though it was nearing closing time, I never felt rushed. She even helped me choose a great place to go to dinner and recommended a great bar to visit with a cool atmosphere I loved (Darling bar). But then she really went above and beyond when my uber driver called and she spoke to him for me in French. I ended up needing to request another driver and she offered me to wait inside the store out of the cold rain while he arrived even though the shop was closing. On top of that, I bought beautiful yarn! I am so glad to have things to remember from this shop. Many yarn stores have fabulous yarn but it's customer service like this that makes people fall in love with the store. (The tea and baked goods don't hurt either.) How I wish it was my LYS and that I didn't live hundreds of miles away. I hope I get to visit it again. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and visit this store! read more

Super cute little yarn store, tucked away on a quiet street, with a bonus cafe! A knitter on my train to Montreal actually recommended LMT to me, because they are apparently the only yarn store in Montreal that carries yarn by Indigo Dragonfly. I had never heard of Indigo Dragonfly, so I wanted to check it out. The selection of yarns is good but not encyclopedic: you will need to adjust your ideas to the selection, rather than vice-versa. A sizeable portion of their yarns are made by Fleece Artist, who specialize in hand-dyed multi-colors and tonal semi-solids. (They are also Canadian! I did not know that!) I also saw Handmaiden, Alchemy, and some small indie dyers. If you want a pure solid, options include O-Wool, Jamieson and other wooly wools. They have an especially large range of sock yarns and mohairs. I didn't have a project in mind, but I found a lovely skein of MCN sock yarn in a greenish-grey colorway, and also picked up a copy of Pompom, a new quarterly magazine with some cute patterns. Minutes after checking out, I saw a few skeins of yarn that I hadn't actually looked at yet. Of course, it turned out to be the Indigo Dragonfly yarns I'd been looking for, and of course they had a Doctor Who-themed colorway, so of course I had to buy it. That was very exciting, at least if you're the kind of person who gets excited about yarn. After my friend and I got our yarn, we sat for a bit so she could cast on. We got tea and a chocolate chip cookie to snack on. I got the chocolate mint tea that another Yelper mentioned, which was incredible: even with no sugar, it tasted exactly like a Thin Mint. The chocolate chip cookie was pretty delicious too (although chocolatey fingers + yarn = no, generally) and was almost definitely homemade. Yum! Overall, La Maison Tricotée was a wonderful stop for this knitter away from home! I hope I can come back the next time I'm in Montreal. read more

I discovered this shop through Yelp back in October 2016. I'm not from Montreal, but visit here often, and from the reviews, it sounded like a shop I had to visit! It was so simple to find from Laurier metro, and as soon as I found the shop, I was instantly fluttered with joy! The shop is layed out out very nicely, and though my french isn't the greatest, the owner of the shop was very welcoming and helped me decide on a tea to order while I sat and knitted away at my project. It was nice to be immersed in a knitting community in a new city! I came back here again in the new year! I really love the ambiance! Whenever I come back to Montreal, I'll be sure to visit this knit shop again and again! read more

What a super cute shop in the Plateau! Located right down Gilford from Metro Laurier, it's in a great location, and combines two delightful warm cozy things - tea and yarn. The space is small but not crowded, and holds a few tables, a comfy couch, lots of yarn, and a picturesque tea bar in the back. There's even an itty-bitty kid's corner with some games, tucked in a little nook on the side. Everything is bright and clean, like your fastidious grandma's kitchen and parlor, and it's very inviting. I'm admittedly a yarn snob, and this shop seemed to be catering to me specifically. A great selection of Québecois/Canadian specialty yarns, paired with some classic imports. All pretty highbrow. Biscotte & Cie, Handmaiden, Fleece Artist, IndigoDragonfly, Hedgehog Fibers, Alchemy, and some others. I was impressed that they had a full range of Jameson 2-ply jumperweight, which is a very useful yarn but not always so easy to come by. Everything was beautiful - lots of luscious sock yarns in bright handpaints. The downside was really that with so many nice things, all very similar...it's like an expensive cupcake boutique. Fancy cupcakes are awesome, and great to throw some cash at once in a while. But they don't sustain you, and if you indulge in all of them, you start going into sugar-shock. I felt my wallet threatening sugar-shock in this shop. And I wonder how their classes work, because although I'm all for having beginner knitters learn on nice yarn, I also know that not so many people like plunking down megabucks on their first project, with silk and mohair and cashmere. That said, I definitely took home a lovely skein of Handmaiden Casbah sock yarn (my sweet-tooth fix for the moment), and will probably come back the next time I want something extra special and local to send to a friend. And the tea is tempting - it might be just the right way to enjoy this shop, with a cuppa and a long cozy sit in the shop windows with a knitting project. (By the way, this shop seems to be mostly francophone, but I'm still new to the language politics around here so don't take this as gospel. I just know that my friend and I were speaking English to each other the whole time we were there, and the salespeople used exclusively French to us. For what it's worth.) read more

I was very pleased with la Maison Tricotée! I am not a knitter myself but good friend is. I have for a while been trying to find a place to take her to for her birthday and this was the ideal place. She is a knitting aficionado and completely lit up with a huge smile from ear to ear when we went in. She could have spent hours looking at the diversity of yarns. My favorite part was drinking great infusions of tea and trying their cookies which were both delicious. The space was homey and it was a nice place to sit down and have leisurely conversation. The staff was nice and patient and were happy to answer any questions on their selection of yarn or tea and were eager to recommend items. It is definitely a great place to go on a Sunday. read more

Combine a tea room with a yarn shop and you get La Maison Tricotée. This cozy, homey yarn shop is tucked away on a quiet corner of Gilford in the Plateau. You can come here to enjoy some tea while you work on your knitting or you can pick up some yarn to take home and work on a project. There yarn selection is on the high end side so you can expect to pay more but if you're knitting something special it is worth it. I picked up some yarn and the saleswoman was really helpful. I crochet primarily and anytime I travel I like to hunt down the local yarn stores. Sometimes my budget allows me to shop but mostly I use synthetics from the large craft stores. Visiting family for the holidays, Montreal has been amazingly. This shop is great!! They offer a decent collection of yarn for the space and plenty of space for working on current projects and to just enjoy some conversation with other yarnaholics. I was approached twice in the 10 or so minutes I had been there, asking if I needed assistance. Sadly, I do not speak French, but the ladies there were more than happy to speak English. My new favourite yarn store in Montreal. I'll preface my review by saying that if you're looking for Cascade or any other commonly found yarns, you'll be disappointed. But if you want high-end, independently produced yarns that are mostly made in Canada (with a few exceptions for some yarns from France), then you will be as excited as I was as I explored the store. I struck up a conversation with Clara, who was extremely helpful in telling me about the store and what it has to offer--not just nice yarns, but tea, very competent espresso), a pleasant place to sit and knit, classes, and being open everyday (a rarity among most stores in Montreal, yarn-related or otherwise). Their knit night seems very popular as well, and I like that the classes include spinning. It looked like the store was being restocked with new shelves added during my visit, so I don't think I saw the full extent of what they carry. I did buy two things I know I can't get anywhere else, as they were imported from France specifically for LMT: a skein of lace weight dyed with indigo and cochineal according to a medieval recipe, and two pairs of scissors made by the famed (well, in certain circles) M. Jean-Marie Roulot, who makes exquisitely designed scissors by hand in his home workshop in a French village. I wasn't expecting to spend as much as I did, but it was just a little too easy in this shop! I'll be back on my next trip, and will hopefully be able to catch one of the knit nights. read more

I love this shop. Everyone is helpful, the teas are delicious, and the yarns are gorgeous (if expensive.) They have a great assortment of circular and double pointed needles, but not much in straight needles. Knitting,crochet classes are given here and Friday evenings are generally reserved for knit nights. I visited this store from NYC and the trek from my hotel was so worth it! The previous Yelpers who mentioned the lovely local yarn were right on the money. We were hungry after a long bus ride so I didn't get to spend too much time in there but the salespeople were super helpful in guiding me. I picked up three skeins of yarns and two types of tea. The shop is a bit out of the way and Gilford is a wonky confusing street.. Keep looking, this place is worth it. Thoughtful selection of yarns. Fantastic sock yarns. And I was thrilled to see Jamieson yarn. Super helpful and friendly. I was made to feel welcome and invited to come by any time to knit. I love shops with that attitude. Certainly looking forward to attending a knit night (and some French practice!) I really appreciated that I was referred to a specialty shop for buttons. I didn't see what I wanted in their selection, and they suggested Rix Rax down the street. Can't wait to go back to this shop when I am able to sit, knit and have a coffee. read more
