I actually go to Nota Bene to cheer myself up on bad days, haha. I've always collected notebooks and loved paper, so I was bound to fall for this shop. They carry great products, many of which are from lesser known, but wonderful brands. I've exclusively bought my work notebooks from Nota Bene for the last 3 years, and am very happy about it. My current favorites are pens from Le Pen (Japan) and Maruman notebooks (Japan) - high quality products! The owners are kind and knowledgeable, and always have good recommendations. The second floor of the shop is a sometime-gallery-sometime-library space for clients interested in arts, fashion and design. The downside is that prices are not cheap. But they did introduce a "sale" section where prices are quite dramatically reduced (its like a gold mine to me). They also have a yearly sale of -20%, usually around April. Its a good place to find gifts! A beautiful, beautiful shop. PS. My favorite part is when they wrap my purchase in a brown paper bag, fold it, and seal it with a colorful tape. Am I alone with that?

Bookstores and other stationary stores could learn a little somethin' somethin' about how to wrap their merchandise from Papeterie Nota Bene. This little gem is stationary Narnia. The first visit would most definitely bring back the lost romance of written letters and love for inky pens. They have a unique selection of agendas, notebooks, and sketchbooks, so you're bound to not get the same thing as someone else. The array of old fashion typewriters on display tickles my writing bug every time. Its location being right beside Pikolo Café is a perfect combination to get rid of any writer's block.

The shop carries nicer, higher-end yarns. There are a lot of knitted samples to pique your creative interest. I didn't try their tea and pastries, but they have a nice, small selection. I bought a few items that were specific to La Maison Tricotée. The staff was so nice, welcoming, and helpful. I would recommend La Maison Tricotée to knitters, crocheters and yarn lovers. Even if you are not, but need to buy a gift for one, the helpful employees would give you guidance.

The young lady working that day showed me all around when I asked about local, hand dyed yarns and told me interesting things about each brand. I had a delightful cup of tea and even though it was nearing closing time, I never felt rushed. She even helped me choose a great place to go to dinner and recommended a great bar to visit with a cool atmosphere I loved (Darling bar). But then she really went above and beyond when my uber driver called and she spoke to him for me in French. I ended up needing to request another driver and she offered me to wait inside the store out of the cold rain while he arrived even though the shop was closing. On top of that, I bought beautiful yarn! I am so glad to have things to remember from this shop. Many yarn stores have fabulous yarn but it's customer service like this that makes people fall in love with the store. (The tea and baked goods don't hurt either.) How I wish it was my LYS and that I didn't live hundreds of miles away. I hope I get to visit it again. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and visit this store!

The tables are large, in case you want to study or work. I ordered several cookies and a cold brew. The cookies were amazing, I shared them between some friends and no crumbs were left alive. I visited with a foodie friend on an early Sunday afternoon for brunch and we were really satisfied. It got a bit busy but I managed to get a good table before the rush came in. The menu is simple but they have many good choices. I got the grilled cheese and it was delicious. I also got to try the soup of the day, it was bell pepper and carrot, it was also amazing. Came with little croutons and bread. We also got a piece of banana, coffee, and peanut butter cake. Pretty good for a vegan cake. It wasn't dry and the peanut butter icing was just sweet enough. I had a cold mochaccino with coconut milk and it was ok, I really don't like coffee that much though so maybe that's why I didn't love it. I thought it was bitter still even though there was only a bit of coffee in it. I needed a bit of caffeine to kick start my Sunday and that's why I got it. What I really like about this cafe is that they offer pottery classes in the building over. We could see the class while we ate, it looked fun! They also sell the creations of some of their Montreal artists in store. Service is also very nice and they are very friendly when answering questions about the menu.
