Green and red pozole with extra toppings
    Carla D.

We came to this very casual, humble restaurant for one thing, and one thing only: the pozole. If you don't know what pozole is, it's a hearty traditional Mexican soup made with hominy and usually with pork although it can also be made with chicken. The pozole can be white, green or red based on which sauce (or lack of) is used as part of the ingredients. The soup is hot but this didn't stop of us (or any of the locals there) from eating it on a rather warm Tulum day. We had never eaten pozole before so we were in for a surprise. We opted for one green and one red pozole, both 'small' size (they were not small by any means though!). I thought the green was tastier than the red. We ordered both with pork at the recommendation of our server. We got a bit carried away and also ordered a couple of extra toppings, avocado and chicharron, not realizing how much food we were going to get. I honestly don't think there's a need to order any extras, they already bring some complimentary condiments to the table such as diced onions, cabbage, radishes, salsas, etc, all to be added to the pozole at will. We later noticed that none of the locals eating there ordered any extra toppings, they clearly know better. The soup is very filling, even one small size bowl for each of us was too much food, we couldn't finish it. Also they are not stingy with the extra toppings! I think they literally served me one whole avocado and a small bowl full of chicharrones. I was expecting just a couple of avocado slices, perhaps a few pieces of chicharron. Had I known this beforehand, I would not have ordered any extra toppings.

I long for the pozoleria and it's superb cuisine. It's the best brunch food in all of Tulum. It's healthy, tasty, proudly served by attentive staff. Get off the beaten path and go there. We always have green Pozole with organic chicken, homeny, shredded lettuce, radishes, onions & seasonings. Try the chilequeles, enchiladas con mole. . Tamarind and green drinks are so refreshing. Order a lot. Take some home. Closed on Monday. Ps. There is a wonderful fruit stand a few blocks passed the pozoleria. Get pineapples, --the worlds best--, yellow papas, sweet carrots, Fennell, mangos, papayas. Fresh cilantro. . Buen provecho. Ro and Curt Ro and Curt

Had chilaquiles verde for breakfast con huevos which consisted of tortillas in a green sauce with an fried egg on top. I had black tea to drink . The meal was not hot. The tea was not hot. I love my hot tea in the morning especially that it was a little chilly in Tulum that time of the year. I love a warm or hot meal too but disappointed there. The salsa verde was too acidic and lacked much seasoning making the whole dish very bland. The service was ok .at luck time I wasn't the only one in the dinning rom and there was loud club music pumping. I hadn't slept the night before because of the same loud club music and neighbrhd barking dogs that kept me us until 4am. Asked waitress to lower the music. She. Barely lowered the volume. Still loud pumping music when I am trying to enjoy a meal. Ended up with a migraine. My lunch was a tortilla soup called sopa de Lima. It was good but again broth lacked seasoning and soup was not hot. Also has a fried fish with rice and veggie. Rice and veggies were gross and bland and not hot. Fried whole fish was yummy but so little meat and lots and lots of bones so very cheap inedible fish. This dish itself cost 285 pesos. Honestly I paid 100 for a dish that was a thousand times better than this in puebla but then again this is Tulum the most expensive place in Mexico where everybody's trying to make money off tourists. I ordered a glass of OJ and got less than 125ml of lukewarm juice for 60 pesos! Not impressed. Waitress was the same person that served me in the morning but was not smiling or friendly and gave me cold looks. Didn't tip her, didn't like her service , her food or the price. Gave me even colder looks after that! I have a pretty sophisticated palate and I know my food and this was pretty much bland imitation of Mexican dishes Catered to. Gringos. Go somewhere else if you want a real authentic Mexican culinary experience.

Culture is seeping out of every corner, and the rustic vibe and images truly make the atmosphere part of the dining experience. Lalo greeted us at the door right away and was just spectacular throughout the entire meal. He was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. His care and attention really heightened the whole evening for us. Before our main course, we were surprised with a complementary appetizer dish that was out of this world! It came with small empanadas, sopes, fresco cheese with beet jelly, garlic butter, nut bread, orange with worm salt, and a tomato cream cheese spread. I honestly couldn't believe all of that was on the house. For our main dishes, we ordered the Chile en Nogada and the Metztli. Neither disappointed! Both the nogada sauce and the black mole were addictive and perfectly executed. We finished with the Cetli (the Mexican sweet corn cake) for dessert, and the chocolate Kahlúa sauce tied everything together beautifully. Yes, this place is a bit pricey, but it is worth it from beginning to end. They even include a mazapán with your bill, which is such a sweet touch. I won't hesitate to come back!

We waited inside why they cooked our order. The atmosphere was cool, very trendy, clean and designed beautifully with an in door out door seating option. They had a variety of foods to choose from especially if you have allergies, like gluten, dairy free, or plant based. The burritos we got were huge! They wrap them in banana leaves and let me tell you they were crazy good! When I first saw them I was little like disappointed. I thinks because I stupidly thought the banana leaves was the actual shell of the burritos not that the tortillas is also inside the leaves. However, my disappointment quickly vanished as I took on bite. These burritos were fire!!!!!

Our servers were incredibly nice and brought out a variety of salsas right away--THE CHIPOTLE ONE WAS THE BEST! Shortly after, our drinks arrived, followed quickly by the food. We ordered the pineapple (piña) smoothies, the chuleta & piña burrito, and the pastor burritos, and everything was outstanding! The flavor combinations were incredible. On top of everything tasting amazing, all of their food is made fresh and cooked only in fresh oils (no seed oils!), which is a massive plus. They also have great vegan and vegetarian options. Highly recommend!
