You have to try this when you are in the area! My friends came here after a cenote trip and came in hungry. Miguel our server, was just so great! He gave us a sample of sauces along with chips to try out Different flavors of the sauces that they have. It was overall a great experience and would highly recommend visiting the area. First discovered this restaurant when i visited Tulum in 2018 and loved it so much visited it again last month. Good lobsters, solid Mexican food and the drinks are yummy! Wow what an amazing place. We both had the catch of the day. Red snapper, fresh local veggies, house made tortilla's, the guacamole and local salsa's. Our servers Carlos and Ulysses took the time to explain each dish as it karrived and all of the ingredients. The service was above and beyond AAA+++They gave us a tour of the small cenote in the back of the restaurant. We really enjoyed our first dinner in Tulum. I highly recommend La Chula!!! read more

Being in Mexico is already a wonderful thing, but the city of Tulum has really elevated my opinion. La Chula is one of the reasons why. Sure you can get Mexican food in Mexico (tacos,burritos, etc) but La Chula gives you an experience. From the moment you walk into this open air restaurant, you are assaulted in the best way with smoke from the grill, smells of spices, and sounds of bartenders shaking away their drinks. The flavors of the food are authentic and rich, and the chefs certainly prepare it with love. They serve dishes such as octopus tacos, marinated bone marrow, skirt steak (my fav), and creamy spinach that is to die for. We were on our way to Chedraui and saw this place right across the street. I am so glad we decided to stop in. I was drawn in by the restaurant sign saying "Oyster Bar", as I love me some good oysters! The restaurant is very open, stylish with a comfortable setup. Lots of seafood options on the menu. We went pretty light with ordering, as we initially came in tired from roaming Tulum town and just wanted some beer. They give free chips with an array of yummy salsas, some spicy and some not. We ordered the guacamole and oysters with chilies crema. W O W !!! Some of the best oysters I have ever had. Got a second order right away. So flavorful, I am craving them right now as I type. Guacamole was fresh, and came with hot, freshly made tortillas -- the best tortillas I've had in Tulum. They gave us samples of their seafood soup in a small mug, and I am kicking myself for not getting a full order, because it was so delicious. Again, lots of flavor. Truly enjoyed the food here and wish we were hungrier and got to sample more of the menu. This will definitely be one of our stops on our next visit to Tulum! read more

I don't typically write reviews, but I had to say that in my short stay, La Chula was the best restaurant my girlfriend and I enjoyed. I felt obliged to write this because we were dining at all the finest restaurants from the hotel zone and all the way down to Tulum. We ordered the giant oysters, flap meat, and the aguachile. The oysters were very fresh and were complimented very well with the given 3 sauces. Flap meat was cooked perfectly medium rare and the aguachile was one of my favorite dish I had overall. Our road trip to Tulum was a little hectic on new years day, but I'm glad we ended up sitting down at La Chula. read more

By far the best meal we've had in Tulum so far. It was definitely an experience and the service was fantastic. Upon sitting down, the server let us know that the restaurant is known for their oysters and came by with a demo plate of all the oysters they offered explaining each in detail. We ended up ordering an assortment of a dozen - they were so fresh that the larger ones were still moving when we squeezed lemon on them. Next, they served us the aguachile Camaron y taco longanizas . The presentation was on point and garnished perfectly with cucumber spirals and and radish, the colors complimented well. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, not overcooked at all and was just so fresh accompanied by a tasty bright sauce. The only item that was a little out of place was the longanizas which tasted a little like basic taquito but still good. I'd also like to mention the salsa dish pictured with the chips came in all different types of spice levels and were truly a unique tasting experience. Saw this place while driving in our first night. As a lover of oysters knew I wanted to go. A few days later we were walking back from shopping downtown and low and behold, there La Chula was! Service was very friendly and attentive. We got a mix of gulf and east coast oysters and they were fresh as could be. Great drinks as well. A bottle of water - $6 (USD) Ceviche - $20 Snapper - $30 1 oyster - $3-5 We didn't drink here, but the dinner for 2 was still about $75 (USD). It'd be more than $100 with some drinks. This place was a sort walk from our hotel (Elements), so we had to check it out. Disclaimer - we ordered WAY too much food for lunch and had a bunch of beers as well, so writing this as soon as I could afterwards was the only way to go. First of all - like many places in Tulum - they were very welcoming to us Americans and my personal not-go-great Spanish speaking, which was a nice way to start. Also, before you even walk in, there was a lady making handmade tortillas outside - a nice touch. I had a traditional recipe fish ceviche, and three different types of tacos, one being a special of the day Short Rib taco - literally everything was delicious. Before anything comes out, the servers will bring you some of the aforementioned handmade fried tortillas to break into chips and eat with one of their many salsa choices, ranging from mild to very spicy. Everything tastes very fresh - from the ceviche to the salsas. Prices were fair - at around 80 to 100 pesos per taco - they were so full of protein that they bring you extra tortillas to make a second taco out of each one! The open air atmosphere present in many Tulum restaurants is always nice, even on a hot afternoon. This place was "newer" at the time of this review but I'm shocked it only had two reviews before mine! If you're close to Tulum town - this is absolutely worth a stop! P.S. - we did not do oysters on this trip, but this place has extremely fresh looking oysters and will prepare them in many different ways. Looks like. This place had the most rushed service I have ever experienced. We came towards the end of the night when the place was a hour away from closing. We ordered and hardly anything we wanted was in the menu, we asked for certain meals and they told us when the food got to the table that certain things wasn't available. Which made of eat one food at a time without having our full menu. The food for the most part was good but the experience ruined the entire thing . I was very disappointed in the service. read more

Lobster Caesar salad is solid. Guac and cocktail shrimp are also good. The only thing we did not enjoy were the oysters - which is what they're known for. Oysters were not cold enough so it was fishy and the sauces were kinda out there - charcoal (why?) and hot sauce that tastes like soy sauce. Just left the restaurant. My friends and I are very annoyed because we did not have pesos so our waited converted the total into dollars. But when we did the conversion, he added a tip for himself in the amount of 707 pesos. Then put another suggested tip amount at the bottom. Had we not paid attention he would have gotten an additional 700 pesos. Beware and double check your bill! read more

Found this place on our trip to Tulum. Sign said RAW BAR and our car just swerved in! Service and food were both great. We started with a round of cocktails. All were fresh and very good. The sign out front advertises great tortillas. The server brought a tray with several salsas, onions, etc. with tortilla chips. I have to say they really were better than all others I've had so far on this trip and I've eaten a lot of tacos and tortilla chips this week! We ordered aguachile, hamachi sashimi, and 2 tacos each. Our server suggested the cornbread dessert which came with vanilla ice cream and it did not disappoint. This is one of the nicer meals we've had while traveling in Tulum. We paid about $40 per person including 20% tip and it was really worth every penny. read more

Best food we had in Mexico. We were looking for a fine dining restaurant for dinner and saw this was near our hotel. The decor is very modern, and we were a little worried that this might be a tourist restaurant. We were very wrong. The food was on par with some of the best fine dining in Los Angeles. Very affordable but amazing quality and service. Drinks and desert are also incredible. Everything we had was great, but I highly recommend anything with the grilled octopus. We just ate a delicious dinner at La Chula. The oysters -- available raw, grilled or oven baked -- were definitely the highlight, especially the grilled ones with crema chile. We also enjoyed he octopus and the baby vegetables, as well as the complementary chips (made from homemade tortillas) and yummy salsas. Although the food was good, when we went to pay the bill we had a problem. The cuenta was in pesos and we asked to use a credit card. They converted the bill to US dollars at 16:1 (rather than 19:1) so bill was considerably more. I asked for a refund and said I'd pay in pesos but the manager refused. Essentially the restaurant got the tip I would have left the waiter. After the manager left the waiter was very apologetic. Still I won't go back. This is the most special little restaurant. Food is excellent and the service is incredible. Staff wait on you and nothing is too much trouble. We had oysters - various varieties( very fresh), grilled bone marrow with ant eggs, pork belly tacos, shrimp tacos, tiraditos , mash potatoes etc the list goes on. We are returning in 2 days time!
