After taking Jamison's 12 week on camera training I can tell you it was well worth it. He is an amazing teacher as well as a person. The classes are very small, no more than 5 usually, so you get more individual attention. He's very good at telling you what to look for and what you need to know. As far as the price, it's one of the best I've seen, $250 a month for a once a week class that meets for 3.5 hours each day. You're money is well spent here in Jamison's class. He's very unique in the way he teacher and he's a very straight forward person, so not a lot of bullshitting going on when he teaches. You start class each week with your scene and watch it, he critiques it then you do it again at the end of each class. Jamison himself is a working actor so he knows how to teach young actors what a casting director would be looking for. Overall, I would say this class was an excellent experience and would recommend to anyone who's looking to improve their craft. especially if you're new to acting like i am it would greatly benefit you in taking his 12 week on camera training class. read more

I've been an actor almost my entire life. I love to perform on stage or in front of the camera but I've always hated auditioning. I dreaded auditioning. To me, auditioning was like a test in school - I was an intelligent student who did her work, research and prep but just did not do well taking tests. If only I could bypass the audition/test portion of this job and go straight to entertaining. Well, you can't because auditioning IS our job. I took the $5 intro class (How to Captivating on Camera) and immediately knew I'd get a lot out of this course. Classes aren't cheap around here so it's really great that LA On Camera Training Center offers the intro class. Actor to Actor - Do yourself a favor and at least take the intro class. You will not regret it. I was nervous to be a student again and to show just how awful my auditioning techniques were to my peers but everyone (students and teacher) was very supportive and encouraging. I can't even begin to tell you just how much I've learned from taking this 12 week course. I have yet to go on an audition since the class ended last week but I feel more ready than I ever have before. I actually feel excited to audition now. I'm sure I'll still feel nervous but I'll feel more prepared and confident. I'll make interesting decisions and I won't walk out with regrets. read more

You get to work on camera 2 x per class; learn your marks; learn where to look for the most benefit of camera time; eye lines; ticks; twitches; making choices; breakdowns of a scene; and many more benefits. You would be amazed at what you think you know,---until you see yourself on screen. Jamison Haase is a helpful, friendly, talented and knowledgeable instructor who is also an LA working actor. He gives you constructive criticism that makes you think and then re-think. I've taken other on-camera classes, and they never touched on any of the "must know" basics of working for the camera. The classes are 3 1/2 hours, once a week and are small for a good reason. Having too many people in one class, a student can get lost and in this crazy film industry, being lost is too often the norm. LA On-Camera has the personal touch to help individuals. This is not a throw-down-a-scene class. It is a technical class for learning to work in front of a camera. If you work hard (there are books to read and there is homework), then you benefit from the course. If you don't work hard----well, you wont get anything from the class except your own validation of getting nothing out of class. I recommend it to be added to your schooling of working scenes; commercial classes; workshops. I only took the class from Jamison, but I hear that Jackie has an incredible comedy class that is not to be missed. I am fairly new to the tv and film world, with a background in theatre. Before I took Jamison's class, I can't tell you how many times I'd hear in an audition room the redirection to "go a little smaller" and "bring it down" a bit...Jamison teaches the technique necessary to be able to be believable and real on-camera. He taught me how to be just as emotional and real while being "small" enough for camera. I love when I leave audition rooms and the comment from the casting director is "thank you for making my choice difficult, that was very natural and believable." I took Jackie's comedy class immediately after finishing up Jamison's intro class and I gotta say her comedy class is a MUST for anyone who wants to do comedy well on-camera. You learn to make the choices that will make your audition stand out in a good way. Decided a long time ago I am only taking on camera classes with working actors who also find the time to teach. Best decision I ever made to do that and choose this place. After taking many classes around town, Jamison taught me many things I have never learned before. You get instruction on script analysis and camera angles you won't find anywhere else. Also, he never sugarcoats anything but, at the same time, clearly has great faith in his students. As an actor, he knows how to talk to actors. The prices are comparable with anyone else in town, but you get so much more for the money. Plus, you always get your footage emailed to you with additional written feedback so you can remember what to work on. They do offer a $10 class so you can check it out. I can't speak highly enough about Jackie's "How to Be Funny On Camera" course, which I just finished this past weekend. I have taken a dozen+ classes here in LA, and TONS of workshops, and never have I had more growth and realization in a class. She is able to push you to new limits and challenges you to go beyond what you've done before. I have a comedy background; between theatre and what roles I've booked here in LA, it's usually on the funny end of the spectrum, so I went in to the class thinking I'd just polish up. But my whole foundation was changed. This class focuses on how to teach you to make the -funniest- decisions. What you might do can be funny, but is it the funniest? Her techniques are awesome, and you know they work because she books. All. The. Time. So does her husband Jamison, who teaches the drama class, which is also excellent. I'd like to give a shout out to Jamison Haase, my teacher @ LA On Camera Training Center, I spent the past 3 months in his "How To Be Captivating On Camera" class. Both Jamison, and his assistant teacher, Tamika, were incredibly insightful. Each week we were given a scene, to put on tape, and watch, get feedback on, and then put on tape a 2nd time, and watch and get feedback on. The class size was small, 6 people, and it was a safe and productive work environment for us all. I have been acting since I was a kid, primarily on stage, I went to a theatre conservatory where I polished my skills, and because of that am super confident onstage. However, when it came to being on camera, specifically in an audition setting, I had very little training, prior to this class. I have been in LA a while now, and although I've had some success as a film actor, I'd been going at the whole auditioning for the camera all wrong. And that became clear when I went to my first class @LAOCTC. I immediately began watching tv and movies in a whole new way, and began to understand why I respected some of my favorite actors so much. I went back and watched some of my own reels and began to put together that I have some work to do, to be the actor I've always dreamed of being. Honestly, I feel like I can take on the world because of this course. I moved to LA 6 years ago with no thought of entering into the CRAZY world of TV & Film. Although I always felt I had an acting itch I could not scratch hard enough to cure. I was spinning trying to maneuver in order to cure this itch. After 3 years in Los Angeles my wife, an AMAZING actress herself, introduced me to a few websites where you can post a headset and see what happens. This is BY FAR my favorite place to take acting classes in LA! Jamison and Jackie are both wonderful teachers. They really give you a chance to work extensively in front of the camera for each class and, as a result, my confidence in front of the camera has improved immensely. They are also both very sweet, personable and fun. They spend their time with each student to make sure that he/she understands how he/she can improve on each take. In addition, they really explain how to approach a new scene, whether it be dramatic or comedic, and give you the tools and confidence to make solid, specific choices so that you can really stand out in the audition room. I can't recommend this center and Jamison Haase's training highly enough. I would suggest a course here to actors at any skill level - I personally came with some film experience and a good deal of training (BA and years of studio courses) that fell more on the theater side. I took the one-day intro course and 12-week How to Be Captivating On Camera class. I wish that I had enrolled in a class like this sooner. I had taken on-camera seminars in the Bay Area prior to moving to LA two years ago, and learned more in the first session at LAOCTC than I had in all of my prior on-camera training. The thing is, the Industry is so competitive that it's impossible to have a shot unless you are aware and in control of your presentation on camera. As a trained actor, I thought I had been aware of the messages my body and choices were conveying, but I wasn't. Jamison was able to clearly and bluntly explain what I needed to work on in unambiguous and clear terms. His methods have altered how I approach and prepare for auditions - I attack my homework differently and put myself on camera for my own benefit several times before I walk out the door. One of the best assets of this studio is the amount of personal attention each student gets. Classes are limited to around 8; ours had 4. Each student works twice per class and is the focus of personal discussions about choices, circumstance and intent. I ended up in a stage production that conflicted with class, and Jamison graciously took extra time to meet outside class without charging me. I haven't encountered other teachers willing to go this extra mile for students. You really get the sense that he's on your side - the studio was started in an effort to help actors understand the things he wished someone had showed him when he first started in LA. And although he'll swear up and down he isn't, he's hilarious and class is a blast. I should be clear that this training is focused on camera technique and should not be taken as a proxy for acting basics. While this course would benefit beginners, Jamison will tell you himself that he assumes you've done or are doing what you need as an actor, and he's there to work purely on your preparation and presentation for on-camera work. If there were a sixth star I could give, I'd reserve it for when he lets his classes order pizza, like I hear you can in his wife's sessions. read more

I can't say how happy I am that I found this place! Studying here has been a real game changer for me. Having been based in theatre getting to find a way to translate that training into being in front of the camera has been great. They break down camera technique in a very speccific and practical way. Not only have I learned so much in that area, the way I approach a scene has grown as well. It can be challanging but they are soo supportive at the same time. Also getting soo much time in front of the camera was huge in and of itself... it really sped up the learning curve :). Of all the acting classes I've taken in Los Angeles, the ones at LA On-Camera have been my favorite. I've taken both the comedy class with Jackie and the drama class with Jamison and both were equally fantastic. The class sizes are small so you are constantly engaged for the entire session and get to work multiple times per class. And besides being amazing humans, Jackie and Jamison are extremely talented and knowledgeable about the industry (both working actors). This school seems to attract good people and have yet to come across any ego driven actors in my time there. Everyone really is supportive and rooting for each other to succeed, which is very refreshing in this town. My class with Jamison was mostly online due to COVID-19 and the transition was pretty seamless. Plus given the way the industry looks to be headed, getting to work "self tape" style from home has been a great experience. I couldn't recommend their classes more. read more

I've taken many classes at various studios in LA and this was the first time I found a studio that I feel 100% comfortable and welcome at. I took the 12 week How to Stand Out On Camera course and I could really tell that Jamison cares about helping all of his students succeed. I love that there are a limited number of slots per session so I always felt I got my money's worth and was in front of the camera for a good amount of time. All too many times, I've been in classes elsewhere that have 18-25 people and not only does it feel impersonal, but I feel like I don't get as much attention as I should. Our class had four people. It's incredible the depth that Jamison goes into when critiquing a scene and he never comes off demeaning or disrespectful. I've noticed a difference in my auditioning since and others have as well. And I'm getting more callbacks- obviously not a coincidence. I will definitely be taking more classes at the studio. I couldn't recommend it more. read more

Before moving to LA, I received an MFA in Acting from a prestigious conservatory program on the East Coast. Even though my Shakespeare was in tip-top shape, my on-camera experience was ZERO! Jamison's class was exactly what I needed. It provided me with a simple, straight-forward understanding of the differences between theatre and film acting (two sides of the same coin), from which I was able to build my approach to on-camera auditioning. Classes follow actual auditioning format, so my confidence improved greatly over the 13-week course. Instruction was carefully given so that I was able to build one skill at a time, and never felt rushed to master a technique. An acting career is a marathon, and Jamison understands and teaches in support of this. The skills he teaches are the foundation on which a TV and Film acting career can be built, because they begin with the audition and take into consideration every possible camera angle that an actor will find themselves working with. I come from an extensive theatre background and I have never felt as confident on camera as I feel on stage; until now. Jamison taught me the technical tools I need to make me feel like a seasoned TV and Film actor. He helped me to understand camera angles and how the frame factors into the choices I make in my performance. To be honest, I never really understood what it meant when directors or acting teachers would say to me, "Make strong choices." LAOCTC is by far my favorite Audition Technique class. Founder and head instructor Jamison Haase teaches in such a way that makes perfect sense and is easy to understand, instead of a lot of mumbo jumbo rhetoric that I have found with other coaches. Everything that is taught at LAOCTC is spot-on with what LA casting directors are looking for in the audition room, further confirmed by the mouths of top casting directors themselves. Never arrogant, Jamison teaches and guides actors in a respectful manner, even if actors come up with a slightly different take than his. Sooo many other acting coaches like to squash choices that are different than theirs, scoffing that their way is the ONLY way, and that irritates. LAOCTC's awesome method of teaching has not only improved my auditioning skills but has improved my acting skills overall. I created a yelp account today, so here goes at 3am. Jamison rocks! I've written reviews for LA On Camera before but I didn't activate a yelp account until now so literally paragraphs of info have been deleted after never having been posted. I started in 2013 in LAOCs' close-up camera intensive which is a mix of both professionals, ex theatre students, and new-to-camera actors--you learn from everyone. I have been off and on taking classes depending on how crazy my schedule gets-- but I always feel better when I'm in class. Jamison is a solid coach (for privates & for class). I always feel super confident after coaching with him whether it's for pilot (THANK YOU), episodic, drama or comedy, series reg-costar etc. He lets you bring your own flair and personality to a script and then tweaks it and gives technical and emotional advice--which is everything an actor could hope for. I've coached outside of Jamison before, but never feel like it sticks with me nor with the casting directors, but like 100% of the time I coach with J it makes me feel like I've booked the room or at least leave confident in my choices. For his ongoing booking a 1-hr drama you are on camera at least twice every class. You get the sides (script scene from current film/tv) the night before usually, and then come in to class with what you prepared. Each individual goes in one at a time, audition style, and shoots it for camera. Once everyone's gone in, the class watches what they did on the tv. Jamison asks what you saw/liked/disliked, and then gives thoughts on the performance, through each person one by one. At the end, we all discuss our game plans, personal secrets, moment of discovery, decision, way of being, etc. Am I allowed to post this even? There's a whole sheet that Jamison gives you before each class to fully prepare. After notes, you go out again for about 5-10mins to reconfigure your performance and one-by-one come in to audition (kind of like if you got a callback or redirect). Then the watching/note process proceeds once more. Regardless of your acting bg or training style, you bring whatever works for you to the table and apply it to class. I've audited many other classes before and have taken at LK, but always come back to Jamison bc he is tried and true & I trust him fully! The class is great if you want to BOOK! I trained at Carnegie Mellon University which is a Conservatory program that is very good, but doesn't focus on on-camera technique. Jamison's class will teach you the ways of playing for the camera that will make all the difference if you're auditioning for film and TV. I have been a student here for going on 3.5 years. I've been in the On-camera Comedy class with Jackie and I haven't stopped learning. Jackie has a very detailed technique on the way to mine a scene that yields the greatest amount of laughs and is a sure way to stand out in an audition. Like I said, I've been with them for 3.5 years and specifically in the ongoing class for 3 of those years. Jackie and Jamison truly care about their students. Each class size is very intimate and they seemingly double as career coaches. Whether it has been advice on a specific Casting Director workshop, or coaching for an audition, they work hard at making sure YOU succeed. I took How To Stand Out On Camera and loved it! I've taken 5 different acting classes here in Los Angeles and this is by far THE BEST camera technique class I have ever taken. I come from a background in theater, holding a B.A. and MFA In acting. All of my training still did not completely prepare me for a career in film and television. It is a different technique, though film and theater borrow from one another in areas. Anyone can take this class, but I recommend it as a wonderful class to take when you've had some basic training in acting. Jamison is a wonderful teacher, and gives clear instruction. This class gives you basic camera acting techniques that help in audition and on-set situations that many experienced actors have learned by being on set for YEARS. I booked two short films and a pilot for a TV show while taking class. It has helped my confidence and gave me a deeper understanding of the camera, and how to tell a "story in pictures". If you want to be a TV and Film actor in Los Angeles, and you feel uncertainty in front of the camera, you need this class. Period. read more

I have studied with Jamison privately and when I heard of his plans to teach a co-star class, I jumped on the opportunity. The goal with co-stars is to be memorable without "stealing the show," as some would say. The course is taught by Jamison (drama) and his wife, Jackie (comedy). LOVE LA ON CAMERA!! I just finished the 3 month How to be Captivating on Camera class and I absolutely loved it! Jamison is an amazing teacher who really cares about you as an actor but most importantly a human being. He helped me work through a lot of my blocks, habits and nervous ticks. I learned how to look at my work from an objective standpoint and not be so quick to hate on myself and my performance. I grew a lot as an actor in these 3 months. LA On Camera is a safe and supportive environment to take your auditioning to the next level so you are more likely to book! And lets face it all of us ultimately want that right?!
