We try to order from here when we're in town and generally the food is pretty good. We usually order the family parrilla and the meat and chicken are good. This time we ordered the green enchiladas and a ribeye steak. The enchiladas were good but the steak was blue! I asked for medium well and this thing was still mooing. We ordered takeout so I had to cook it myself just to make it edible. The plate also came with a half baked potato and it was just that "half baked". Most of it was still raw. We started with the nachos, they consisted of chips with cheese sauce in a small basket. Unfortunately the chips were stale. Next we had arachera and sirloin for 2, they serve that with boracho beans. (I think they came from a can)! The meat was good ,tender, it tasted lemony. The mini flour tortillas and did not care for they were hard. We also ordered jalapeños wrapped in bacon. Those were okay. Service was great friendly waitress. I ordered the enchiladas rojas con queso panela. And I've been craving to eat them again ever since. Their beans are heaven in a bowl!!! So homey. Image your grandma's best patch of beans. You remembering how good she makes them? Now forget about them because these are better!!!! They're the perfect amount of spicey, with a flawless flavor that makes you go mmmm. Now, my husband ordered an order of mini tacos. 5 come in an order. He chose the mixto order. Which means he was able to pick five different types of meat to go into each taco (one flavor in each). * Sirloin, bistec, chicken, etc.* He was in love!!! He was in such a good mood after eating these tacos, I took advantage of his mood and ordered my whole wish list from Amazon. The green sauce on the right of his tacos in the pic is sensational as well. If I wasn't a Christian, I would have put that bottle right into my purse. The only grievance I have is that their tea is flavored. But I'm basic so that might not bother most people. But it sure did break my heart that they don't have plain regular sweet tea. And the service needs work. They're not rude what so ever, they just forget you're there sometimes. I conducted an informal survey of local residents when I was recently in Eagle Pass on business. When asked what the best restaurant was in Eagle Pass, four out of seven of them said La Parrilla. Two of them said La Parrilla De San Miguel. And one crazy person said either Chili's or Luby's. There's always someone... You'd almost have to be a local to find this place. It's a little red/pink shack on the side of Hwy 277 on the way out of town going north. I pulled off the road and dropped in. The place is small and plain, but very clean and well maintained. The waitress didn't speak a word of English, and my Spanish is limited to what I learned in 8th grade 20 years ago, but we managed to come to an understanding. La Parrilla's menu is small, in fact there isn't even a menu. There are some glossy pictures of food items that are posted on the wall. The grill of the restaurant is located in a screened shack which is outdoors in the parking lot. Walking in I was catching whiffs of the other customers orders - I have to say the hamburguesa smelled amazing. I'm not the kind of guy that orders American food at Mexican restaurants, but I half-considered it for a second. Given the name, you might expect they are good at grilling stuff here, and you'd be right. I went with the La Gringa taco, which was a fatty beef, caramelized onion, cilantro and cheese, wrapped up in a homemade tortilla. This is a staple of most Mexican joints, but this particular taco was the best of them all. I've never really relished a beef taco before, but La Gringa was pretty outstandingly moist, creamy and flavorful. Even the tortilla had a nice char on it from when they toasted it in the kitchen. It was excellent. The chips are homemade and thick, with a slight burnt taste to them, which added to the appeal. There are three pepper sauces which are provided at the table which all have subtle but excellent chile flavors. They don't really provide salsa here, but the three sauces can make do. The guacamole was the one weird part of the meal. There was no salt, no lime, no onion, no tomato, etc. They served a bowl of mashed avocados, and then provided me some cut limes and the pepper sauces. I think the idea is that you make your own - I mixed salt, lime juice and one of the pepper sauces together with the avocados. It was tasty, but rather hands-on. The parrillada looked pretty awesome at another table - I know what I'm getting next time. And by the way, I also tried La Parrilla De San Miguel and while it's nicer in appearance, the food is no contest. The people have spoken. read more

Have you ever heard the expression, "hole in the wall", this place is the perfect example. If you pass this on the street, you might not give it a second thought, but, OH. MY. GOD. This place is, (to use a 90's phrase), THE BOMB! Everything is cooked on a mesquite wood lump charcoal grill. Not a gas grill, not an electric grill, real, old school, mesquite lump charcoal grill. The flavors are truly awesome. Just like in Mexico. We ordered the Paquete Familiar, supposed to be for around 2-3 people, more like 3-4 people. Comes with chicken, just like pollos asados al carbon style, marinate and everything, beef arrachera fajitas, so tender and juicy, and sausage. It also comes with beans and rice and 14 mini tortillas. I loved this place, my wife and I couldn't finish the plate. It is so delicious, I kept eating even when I was full. If you're in the Eagle Pass area, DEFINITELY try this place out. You won't regret it. Very inexpensive as well. They also have grilled, not baked, potatoes topped with fajita or sausage or chicken. They looked so delish! I will definitely be back every time I'm in Eagle Pass. Come try this place, it's a must try. read more

Ill admit, the meat is great.....but the service sucks, the salad is bland and lacks any creativity, the potato was great, the nachos were screwed up twice, they totally forgot our appetizer, the beer selection is boring (very eagle pass), the limonada was sugar water and the waiter even said he told the owner but they didnt fix it and still served it, the water is chlorine water, and and plastic everything. Luckily the price isn't terrible. Also, the tv is loud and blasting a crappy kids movie while we are trying to eat. Also the fries were good on my daughters plate. read more

At night the open flames from the outdoor grills signal that good food is going on inside this tiny restaurant. The menu is limited. Maybe only five things-- but everything we had was made to order and delicious. The food is fresh and authentic, which is a godsend to Eagle Pass. One specialty was La Gringa, a homemade flour tortilla filled with cheese, grilled onions, fajita meat and grilled peppers. There's a mixed grill plate. The beef and sausage were simply perfect. Food was 'eeh okay. Coming from a big city where tacos are the size of your hand to a resturant where the tacos are the size of your pinky finger is ummm different and I wish I would have known. Felt as if we were eating a kids meal. Their ATM machine wasn't working properly, so I had to use my cash (definitely wasn't a bank issue on my end). The server only came to our table twice, once to take our order and the next bring the food. She also accidentally served our food to another table to only gather it back once they told her it wasn't their food (there lucky I let that slide. The idea of someone other then the cook touching my food does disturb me, but I know people make mistakes). Price is not worth it for the small amount and quality of food. Trust me. But try it for yourself. We definitely will not be going back. read more

Im a returning yelper. Yesterday i came to this place and got the chicken fajita.it was delicious, grilled and tasty. Today we came back, and my bf got the ribs and i got the hamburger. The hamburger is their specialty, however, it had the same taste as a Carl's jr burger. My bf got ribs and the meat was tough and greasy. Service was superb . They say that location is everything. That's partially true and why I only gave them four stars. It's on the side of a busy highway and very modest on the inside. This restaurant was recommended to me by some locals and they were on target. It's a family run place so don't expect fast food but it has been worth the wait each time I have visited. The food is authentic TexMex with meats prepared on site in their own BBQ shack. Portions are good sized and the menu has the normal variety. I would suggest trying their stuffed, grilled jalapeños. I'm from a border town and live in Tucson, AZ now. I love Mexican food and have enjoyed the cuisine from numerous establishments growing up in southern Texas and Arizona. This is the best Mexican food I've had yet!!! Menu is in Spanish but if you don't speak Spanish you can get by no problem. The service was amazing and just an all around great experience.
