Iran is a real gem; please find out for yourself! I came in for a Groupon for a microdermabrasion and mask. That was awesome and my face is still glowing, 2 days later. She told me about eyelash perming when she saw I have long but very straight/flat eyelashes. She was not pushy AT ALL. I told her I was from out of town and would like to know more but wouldn't be getting it done today. Iran was so nice to very clearly explain everything to me. She knew I wasn't going to get that service that day, yet she educated me on the process anyway and told me what to look for if I wanted to do it when I returned home. She made me feel at such an ease and yet also excited... I got my eyelashes done that day! Looovin' the results! I haven't worn mascara or used an eyelash curler in 10 days! i went for a dealfind voucher which included haircut, make up, and hair conditioning. Service 2/5 The hair wash was the only relaxing part, haircut was decent, not the best. When it was time to get the make up done by a "professional artist" i was told she doesnt work on the day i was in, EVEN THOUGH i had mentioned the dealfind voucher and asked for the make up artist. Now this was a little while ago but the memory came to me today as I was telling the story to a friend and she was so outraged for me she suggested I write a review on Yelp. I want to start off that my first experience at this spa was amazzzzzing. I was introduced to this spa because I receive 2 $100 WaySpa gift cards and this was one of the spas on their list. Anyways my total came to $125.00 so the owner asked if I could want a gift certificate from La Perla for the $75.00 instead and he would keep the two WaySpa gift cards. I had a great experience so I said of course and he gave me the gift certificate for $75.00. I totally forgot I had the gift certificate and found it in my top drawer one day and made a booking and went there. I was VERY VERY VERY RUDELY told by the "new owner" that the gift certificate was no longer valid as she bought the shop and she was not going to accept gift certificates that were purchased prior to her taking over (even though the name has not changed). She actually took the gift certificate from my hand and would not give it back. I was in shock and the people in the salon were all staring at me so I became embarrassed and just left. I got a voucher to go here from one of those deal websites. It was close to my work so I thought it would be ideal. This was the worst waxing experience I have ever had. It was a filthy salon, filthy waxing room. There were hairs everywhere (hairs from areas that I would rather not see). I had to disrobe in front of here and there was nowhere to put my clothes. There was a giant red spot on the kleenex box. When I confronted someone about it, they claimed it was nail polish.... I thought it looked like blood. The esthetically didn't wear gloves, she double dipped into the wax and then poured rubbing alcohol over the area that had just been waxed..... OUCH! I don't think that was a good idea! I should have left once I realized about the double dipping, but I was in desperate need for a wax. Not worth the "deal" read more

I went for Brazilian wax while ago. Staff were friendly. The girl who does the waxing took me to a little room that I thought was a closet! Very small & no dressing room! She didn't even leave the room to give me privacy to get undressed! She talked non-stop & kept asking me to pull my skin this way & that way! (She needed an assistant) After I got home, realized my underwear was bloody & when I was taking a shower, realized that she had tear up my skin (right inside the vagina where there is no hair) for a little over an inch. I called the store & spoke with the owner/hairdresser. He was rude & vicious & started telling me that I must have scratch it myself. Without even listening to me, he was telling me that he has lawyers who are wiling to take care of things for him!!! Never seen a creature like this. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! Had a wax with Bianca who was friendly and professional and took the time to give me advice on skin preparation, maintenance and preventative treatments. The wax and lotion used all contained tea tree oil and the room felt hygienic. She also didn't leave a hair in sight and sent me away with samples. Staff is nice and friendly but the location of La Perla is terrible. It is in an old university residence building. Bianca is good at all waxing but the room is really crammed. It looks as if it was just a hair salon and they just put up a few walls so they can do esthetic services too. They claim to have hard wax but when you ask for it at your appointment they say they are out of it. Also, when you call to book an appointment and ask how much waxing services are the receptionist says she has no idea. They charge the same prices as many nice salon and spa's while not providing the same quality experience. read more

Love this place - this is one of the best brazilian waxes I've ever gotten. The price was amazing, they lowered the prices since I went 2 years ago. It was $35 for a brazilian, which is about half of what I'm used to paying. Least painful wax ever. The lady was very skilled and friendly. She asked me if the wax was too hot (it wasn't). Beforehand she put this powder on my skin, which I didn't know what its purpose was, until afterwards. It keeps the wax from leaving you sticky - I always leave a waxing appointment sticky until I shower later on, but I finished my appointment an hour ago and I'm not sticky at all. The place has a good location downtown, easy to find - it's small, but not too small. The owner was very friendly. He even offered to do my hair personally if I ever wanted to come in there and get my hair done (next time I need a haircut, I will seriously consider this). I also liked how they played more upbeat music in the waxing room. Other places I've been to have played relaxing music, like you would want to listen to for a massage. More energetic music makes it easier to ignore the slight pain that waxing inevitably causes. I also called about 3 hours before I wanted my appointment, and got in at the time I wanted, no problem. I already recommended this place to my friends - I would highly suggest going. This will be my go-to salon whenever I am in Toronto. read more

Terrible experience. I went for doing some colour highlights in my hair, blue and green. I showed a picture of what I wanted and they told they could do it. The hairdresser (Jenny) bleached my hair not enough, just a dark blonde (telling that more could damage my hair, I agreed). She picked such thin highlights that it was almost unnoticeable. Then she started putting the color, and here is the thing: obviously no one had asked for that before, because the green colour was so old that it did not coloured at all!!! It was like if she had put anything. So I had to leave with a few blue highlights and a few blonde ones (she kept on repeating how nice it looked but it was awful, half finished job) and the promise that they could call me back for a second appointment ASAP to fix it. JENNY PROMISED TO DO 2 NEW HIGHLIGHTS FOR FREE NEXT TIME BECAUSE OF THE BAD EXPERIENCE. They never called. I had to call back like 3 days to ask about what happened, and they told that "they were just about to call me" (really?). I went then to fix it and when asked about the 2 extra highlight, she told me "oh no, it is not worthy because I have to bleach again and it would take too long, you know?" I told her that time was not a problem for me, but SHE REFUSED, so basically she LIED. She put a new tube of green colour, and she told that "they were losing money with me because they had to give that second free appointment and buy a new green color". How can you tell that to a client??? And the last thing is that she told me that she would blow dry my hair as a favour, "for free, because I should really charge you for that"... WHAT? This is Toronto and outside it was SNOWING!!! The highlights were so bad done (because hair was not properly bleached as I said) that they vanished in less than 2 weeks. Worst 100 dollars waste ever. I had to go to another hairdresser to do it again and it was really hard for him to pick the original highlights, because they were so thin and without a logical pattern, just loose thin straps of hair here and there. I regret so much having gone to that salon, I really think a friend could have done it better. read more

I went to this place to receive a Brazilian after having a groupon. I've been getting Brazilians for about a year now. I now have a rash that has been there for about a week and it has been very painful. I would not advise going to this place. It was disgusting when I visited. I saw hair on the table and I had to change the sanitary paper myself. I knew when I saw the hair I should have just walked away and not taken the brazilian. I am regretting it greatly. We started the day with laser hair removal and after one session I'm already starting seeing results! Our faces were glowing after the facials and we were so relaxed after our massage. Horrible spa experience. The lady was 15 mintues late even though I'm the first appointment. She even had a bad breathe. The spa room is right next to the salon so it's very noisy, and at one point during the body massage some man opened the door! The facial chair was wobbly. The lady was pretty nice but the actual bikini waxing experience was horrible. They use this weird device to apply the wax which was not melted enough and caused a lot of pain. Then when it came to the actual waxing- I don't k ow what it was but it was so painful, more painful than my usual waxes, she used the same strip for like the whole thing and kept messing up and only half pulling. She missed a lot of hairs that I think could have been waxed but then went over other certain areas that had no hair left and just hurt a lot. I was in so much pain for the rest of the day and had weird little hairs that had gotten ripped at the surface no the root. I ended up spending 30min when I got home tweezing everything. read more

Had a Brazilian wax there last week. The next day, after letting my rage, embarrassment and pain settle, my friends and I laughed in disbelief at what a nightmare it was. First, the good: - efficient front desk, courteous customer service, friendly. - Radio blared distractions like "More than a Feeling" and "Born in the USA". The Bad: - When I asked her if there was a chance for me to "clean myself and freshen up" (it was a hot and humid day and I'd been cycling), she showed me to the public washroom, which had no showers. - Didn't give me privacy to get undressed, she gestured to have me put my clothes on the floor. - Wax too hot, didn't turn down temperature upon request. - Throughout, just before ripping the strip of wax off, she would always count down "1.....2.....3!!" which added sweaty, muscle-spasming suspense to the overall stress. - Waxed in tiny strips, aggravating the same inflamed area of skin several times in a row (didn't alternate areas). - Double dipped into hot wax throughout. - Didn't sound very experienced: diagnosed my hair as being "difficult" because I shave all the time, when in fact I never do. - When I couldn't stand the burning pain any longer and requested to take a break (I have never had to do that before) she told me the pain I'm experiencing is "nothing". While lying stark naked in front of her, she proceeded to give me a detailed account of her two casarean sections while modeling the cutting of scalpels and sewing of the wounds on my OWN body. - Finally I mustered up the guts to tell her to stop altogether, halfway through the procedure. It was simply unbearable. - I sat upright, and noticed my entire vagina was aflame and covered in sticky remnants of wax. She doused me in baby oil and proceeded to pick it off bit by bit with her, thankfully gloved, finger. She rubbed my clitoris alone for a good 20 seconds. It was one of the most uncomfortable experiences I've ever lived through. - Took a while, and the help of a bleach-handed hairdresser for my esthetician, Nancy, to figure out the debit machine. She must have been new there. Which leads me to believe that the (male) owner doesn't put enough care into hiring sufficiently experienced or educated estheticians to wax his customers' genitalia. - It took 4 days for the irritation on the waxed area to pass. Most of my pores were bloody after the appointment. There were stray hairs left over on the "waxed" area. To top it off, it hurt too much to shower after (I took 2 Advil extra strengths before the appointment). In hindsight, I feel pretty bad for Nancy, who I can tell neither enjoys her job nor is proficient at it. I can also see how I had bad judgement throughout this process, and should have clued in to the various red flags while it was happening. This is my first ever review, I had to speak up, albeit semi-anonymously. Save your sanity and your vagina. Do not go there. read more
