located in plaza larga, in the old city of albaicin, this was truly a local's restaurant. we chose this restaurant b/c we saw so many non-tourists eating here and the fact that they had a prix-fixe lunch special.
we were seated promptly, at a table for 2 outside on the patio, so that we could take in some fresh air and people watch while we had our lunch.
moments after placing our orders, we were given a complimentary appetizer on the house. this was something that i'd never seen before, a small plate consisting of cold chunks of melon with spanish peppers and corn meal. it was very different, but surprisingly good with lots of interesting flavours and spices!
hubby's prix-fixe included:
+red gazpacho soup (served cold) - this is a traditional spanish soup and had a nice zest.
+pork chop and french fries - hubby said this was just ok, meat was a little dry.
+creme caramel with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle - this was delicious! like a wiggly jiggly flan with cream and chocolate!
my prix-fixe consisted of:
+green salad - tomatoes, carrots, beets, corn, and iceberg lettuce, pretty standard salad.
+paella marisco - traditional seafood paella with saffron rice. this was really good, i only wish they gave me a bigger serving!
+watermelon - a huge hunk of seeded fruit that we needed to cut ourselves. guess sometimes we gotta work for the dessert too!
service was standard, and despite the fact that the waiter did not speak english, we were able to point and let him know what we wanted, and also request the check at the end of our meal.
the total? a little over €18, which is really good for 2 prix-fixe lunches that filled our bellies well! read more
