We decided to check out this place for breakfast. The espresso machine was broken but another disappointment was that they serve their coffee in paper or plastic cups what totally ruin the experience to me. We ordered ehh Benedict's, they were overcooked although tasted good. It was served with fresh spinach what was nice. We also hit a breakfast burrito and pancakes. An eclectic desert rose in the Ghost Town of Terlingua will ease your mind and soul with a one or two night stay. When we checked in at the coffee shop, we were met by the resident road runner who was shopping for an easy meal from the visitors. A short drive up the hill and a short walk through the patio took us to our casa for the evening. After unlocking the door, our party of four discovered comfortable bunk beds made from old mining timber. We assumed that the rooms were remodeled from very old miner's housing from year's past, with a more modern bathroom inside. Outside, you will find a beautiful and spacious common kitchen on an elevated patio for entertaining larger groups. Our small party rooms n the evening consisted of a small camp fire, cerveza, and star gazing until late in the evening. It was a very memorable desert evening. I would like to thank Sandy for assisting us the next morning in finding our misplaced key fob to our vehicle. It was great to meet Mimi and hear her story on how she came to be attached to Terlingua. read more

For the excessive price this place is terrible. We spent over $300/night for 2 adults and 2 small children to stay in Mimi's bunkhouse which consists of a narrow room with 4 bunk beds, a desk and a bathroom. Outside the room has a storage shack infested with rats. You can't enjoy the fire pit outside the room without seeing rats scurrying around. I also stepped on a rusty nail walking around outside our room which went straight through my Birkenstock sandal but thankfully didn't puncture my foot. For a 4 star price tag this place is 1-2 stars at best. And did I mention no coffee maker in the room? They expect you to walk to a shared outdoor kitchen facility on a cold morning and stand outside & brew your own coffee! Hard pass on this awful, rip-off place! read more

Yes, for the past month, I've been ready to explode with tales from my stay in Terlingua. I can never squeeze out the desirable amount of excitement from my audience, but I try by elaborating extensively and getting more and more animated. All too soon, I find I'm losing their attention. I resort to cavemen speak spitting out the words I think have the most impact and allure. "La Posada Milagro!" "Mimi!" "Fireplace...Coffee shop...Hogan!" The basic gist: We had a wonderful stay at La Posada Milagro. Mimi was super friendly, the rooms and shared bathrooms were amazing, and the views were gorgeous. Mimi has a few famous skeletons in the closet and if you're nice about it, she'll tell you a few stories you won't believe...but believe them. Terlingua dogs run around playing with rocks. And in the morning, you can have a great cup of coffee while watching the mountains emerge and change color. It was a wonderful New Year's Eve! read more

La Posada Milagro is a wonderful place to stay if you're going to be hiking in Big Bend or attending the chili cook-off. The rooms are charming, the views are incredible, and the hot water never ends. Though the Frogette and I had the one room with a private bath--which, by the way, I recommend--I'm sure the others are equally nice and wouldn't hesitate to share with other guests. Be sure to get up early for the sunrise and then trek on down the hill for the breakfast burritos at the cafe in the hotel office. My only caution (for you East and West-coasters) don't order anything made with espresso--they have no concept of how to price it. My $8.25 triple Americano ($2.75/shot) was a shock. read more

I guess this place is going for a shabby chic vibe, but the emphasis is definitely on shabby. It looks like the inn was built on a slag heap of old mine tailings. There is zero hospitality; when you arrive at the closed espresso shop/office, you'll find only a piece of paper taped to the door, giving bare-bones instructions of how to find your room. Not much of a welcome. None of the town is paved, and the rough driveway to the parking area is no exception. Parking is a free-for-all, and you may find yourself out of luck if you arrive late or if the other guests park like morons. There is indoor plumbing (which is so fragile that you can't even flush toilet tissue and instead must throw in the trash, ick) but there are still outhouses scattered throughout the property, adding to the unappealing vibe. On the patio, where we sat out to enjoy the view, we found ourselves sitting on plastic lawn chairs right next to an outhouse. Lovely. And while the view of the Chisos mountains is spectacular, the abandoned vehicles, dilapidated buildings and trailers in the foreground were less so. The room was fine, clean and basic and had AC. I wish Yelp had 10 stars, because that is the rating I would give....where to start... We bought two "deal" coupons for our stay at La Posada Milagro, really for a relaxing, do-nothing weekend (what's there really to DO in Terlingua, right?? Ha! Little did I know!) You're always apprehensive when using deal coupons, because they might think you're cheap or give sub-par service. NOT HERE. We got checked in with Noemi (an absolute DOLL!!) and she directed us to our room which was behind the office down a caliche drive-way. As we approached (with crazy barking puppy in tow!), we saw someone who turned out to be Mimi Webb-Miller, the proprietor, waving at us. We stopped and immediately felt completely welcome. Mimi insisted that we let our puppy out to play "because Hogan (her dog) won't let her run off!" Mimi is an absolute delight who is so incredibly friendly and open - love her stories! We visited with her for quite some time while the dogs played, then unloaded our car into the Santa Elena room, which opened onto a beautiful courtyard with uninterrupted views of the National Park's peaks. Mimi gave us a tour of the property (more on that later) and then we retired to our room for a short rest. Right behind our room was another office with a refrigerator, freezer with bags of ice for personal use, wine buckets, ice buckets, hairdryers, etc that you can use. We got a bucket, a bottle of the wine we brought, and rested on the very comfortable bed while looking out the window at the beautiful mountains. The room was amazing - the pictures online do NOT do it justice! It was beautiflly decorated, equipped with a candle, air conditioner, bedside reading lamps, mirror, nice fluffy bathrobes, fluffy towels, luxurious sheets, wine and tea glasses with Milano cookies, a guest book to read and sign, two chairs, and an extra coverlet for the chilly nights. There were two adults and a 70 pound puppy in our room, as well as suitcases and snack bags and there was still plenty of room left. The Wifi was exceptional in the room and on the patio, and the cell service was actually better than what I get in the middle of Austin! The bathrooms were literally 2 steps outside our room - on our side of the property, there were three rooms that shared two showers and two toilets. There was never a wait and I never felt funny about walking out in a bathrobe - you sort of become "family" at Mimi's place, so it felt totally okay. (And I will admit, I am a very vain, spoiled person when it comes to bathroom space and getting dressed) One of the showers was in Mexican tile decor, and it also had a toilet; the other shower, however, was my favorite. It was built out of big river rocks. Each of the showers was stocked with more fluffly towels, a hamper for wet towels, shampoo/body wash/handsoap/lotion and hair dryers were available if you needed them. The lighting was good and plugs were available - I was able to get myself as dressed as is possible in my own home in Austin. It did NOT feel "less" in any way whatsoever! (Water was hot, too!) Outside our room was a beautifully landscaped courtyard with a firepit and firewood, candles in the decorative niches (that were lit for us when we returned from dinner), chairs and tables beside each room, and on the other side of the property a fully-equipped outdoor kitchen you can use at your leisure to cook under the stars. Both nights we were in Terlingua, we sat in the courtyard drinking wine and visiting with "neighbors" who were staying in the other rooms - Mimi does a GREAT job at introducing her guests to one another and encouraging them to interact, which we did. Since it is a whopping long 2-minute walk back from "downtown" Terlingua, Mimi even equipped her room keys with mini-flashlights which were invaluable! Another favorite thing of ours is that our puppy was totally welcome around the property - she played happily with the resident dogs and was made part of the "family." There were even water bowls out for the dogs! (And the faucets in the courtyards were very handy for filling her bowls and our water bottles!) On the morning we left, we roamed around and took pictures then went back to the check-in office for breakfast which was amazing and completely homemade by Noemi - you've got to try her salsa! Our puppy went down to the breakfast with us and sat on the ledge, watching the people who were varied: guests, residents of Terlingua, the band from the night before at the Starlight - regardless, everyone was interacting and having such a great time that it caused us to leave over two hours later than we intended! Without a doubt, La Posada Milagro is a magical place to which we will return again and again (and even pay full-price, because it is well worth it!). Mimi, Noemi, and Jose are delightful and truly care about their guests. Terlingua is a place you go to BE, not DO and La Posada Milagro definitely helps you with that. The scenery is just incredible as is this little jewel in the desert. This place is magical for those of you looking for something that is unique and independently owned. The place has done it up right. Cozy and comfortable rooms. Every one is different and decorated with loving care. Perfect for a romantic getaway! Get away from it all if you wish-but they do have wifi if you need it but I bet your eyeballs will be busy! My husband and I will be visiting La Posada Milagro for many years to come. My wife and I stayed here right before Christmas. The ambiance and natural surroundings reminded us of Greece. That said, the lodgings felt more 'rustic' than 'luxurious'. For our three night stay the shared showers never had hot water---I would rate it 'lukewarm plus'. There is no coffee on the premises. You have to go down the drive to the cafe for morning refreshments....no big deal, but it is nice to wake up and have coffee in the room. Also, one night a dog barked incessantly across the road from a neighboring house near our room (about 25 feet). He did disappear eventually. Finally, the firewood offered was not cut in small enough pieces to make a fire---I should have brought an axe. And there was no kindling. read more

Only decent place to stay in Terlingua. The service is very spotty - the front desk may or may not be manned during normal business hours (or days.) The breakers might blow and the wiring might not inspire confidence - but it's the end of the earth. Be happy it's got air conditioning. Reviewing both the hotel and the place next door where we grabbed some great breakfast eats! When we first arrived for a 3-night stay, we were greeted with some rain which made the roads up to our room nearly impassable, but we got through. Do not underestimate the flash flooding that occurs in this area of Texas! Hotel was great, but pretty pricey for what it is...i.e. a one room experience with an outside private restroom about 20 or more steps from your bedside. Robes are provided for your walk. The décor is everything 'Southwest' architecture inside and out. Too convenient was their breakfast place and especially, The Starlight Cafe which is a short walk from your room. Do sit out at night and enjoy the sunset and the stars in the chairs on your porch or from the elevated sitting areas above your room that afford great views of Big Bend National Park and surrounding areas. If you're into astronomy, be sure NOT to go when there's a full moon as we did last October. There was nothing to see except the full moon, so we had no choice but to move on to the Starlight Cafe! Went here over this past Fourth of July weekend, on a whim, at the advice of a friend who was raving about it. He was right. La Posada Milagro is an extraordinary experience. It's what I want when I go off the beaten path, when I seek out something unsual and real. The hotel is a stacked-stone compound, alive with guests and flowers and beautiful dogs and cacti (AND a giant centipede which almost made me faint). Mimi, the hostess, is the real deal.
