Although there are other items other than pupusas, thats what we're here for and its quite a delight to see the service staff speak both spanish and english. We put in an order for Chicharon appetizer, bean and pork cheese pupusas. There is a side of garnishes, mild and hot sauce which we were recommended to try both. The pupusas were good, with the pork one standing out just a bit more in taste, but I wouldn't recommend the bean one (and neither do the locals). A typical Latin American restaurant on the outside with crazy flavour in their food. The restaurant is filled with simple chair and table arrangements serving up El Salvadorian food. Both the food and the beverages were loka! Would be a regular if I lived closer. Pupusa - Beans with cheese - The pupusas are served with a coleslaw of sorts (yellowish, not creamy), a tomato based sauce and a hot sauce. Each of these sauces come very flavourful but together mix well to bring out the flavours of the pupusas. Ultimately, will have to play around to figure out which ratio works best for you. The beans and cheese pupusa was tasty, the two textures blended well and was augmented by the salsas. I only wished the pupusa exterior was crispier. Pupusa - Pork with cheese - In contrast to the beans and cheese pupusa, these were more crispy. Probably because the oils released from the pork made it crisp up a bit more. Unfortunately, I didn't like this one as much because it lacked the creaminess that came from the beans. Might have to try the supreme flavour to get the three fillings. Platano con crema - Perfectly caramelized plantains! I am not a sour cream person, so I skipped the cream, but the plantains by themselves were soft and delicious. Yuca con chicharron - Yuca fries are my favourite form of fries; slightly sweet, fluffy inside and crispy outside. These yuca fries had all these characteristics! Unfortunately, the chicharron was over fried, resulting in chewy, dry pieces of pork. Tamarindo - Lots of tangy tamarind flavour and served in a huge cup. Works well to cut the more fatty and oily foods like fries or the pork Pupusas. Horchata - Milky roasted rice drink was delicious as well. It had lots of roasted rice flavour, but it was also a bit too sweet for myself. Would still recommend to try. read more

My friends are vegans and after a night of climbing we decided to check this place out around 9:30pm, 30mins before closing. People were still coming in around 10pm so it seemed like they welcomed any customers without turning anyone away due to their closing time. This is a nice little spot for pupusa which I've never tried before. It's under $4 per pupusa and they definitely fill you up! I had pork and chicken while my friends had bean pupusa which we all enjoyed. The pupusa by itself is a little bland so you'll need hot sauce. I was stuffed after this meal so it's well worth the $12. Also your table gets free slaw to eat with your pupusa. When we finished the first bowl the cashier noticed and brought us another fresh bowl. =) We came on a night that was about 35 degrees C outside and they didn't have the AC on. Maybe it was part of the El Salvador ambiance but it was pretty sweaty in there. All in all, great service, decent food, but way too hot. read more

Authentic. If you close you're eyes, you'll feel like you are somewhere in south America. The pupusa's are the talk of the town. You need to get there early or you don't get any. They are VERY popular. The fish soup is off the hook. There is so much seafood in it that you won't be able to eat all the shrimp. Other places will offer 2 or three shrimp and a mussel. Not this place, there where hand full of everything in it. The carne asada is amazing, so much avocado in the salad. And you have to get the chicharon and the Tamale.. sooo good. Literally had to travel out of my way to come eat pupusas here as it was one of the only pupusa places open on NYE. The travel was definitely worth it though! It's for sure a lot bigger than your average El Salvadorian restaurant, head a decent amount of seating, TV to watch, music to listen to and overall was clean and tidy. I don't eat meat so I got three pupusas with just frijoles and, wow, I really enjoyed it! Took around 20 mins to prepare as they are made fresh in-house upon ordering, but it was worth the wait (also had two friends with me so that most likely contributed to the wait time). I love pupusas as I was introduced to this dish by my best friend who's from El Salvador. So I was looking forward to visiting this restaurant to see how their pupusas stack up. This review is based on my takeout experience only. I ordered the Cheese and the Cheese/Chicken pupusas for takeout. It took a while to come out as it seems that they make them to order. No issue with placing my order, just a personal annoyance that this place won't take debit or credit. The restaurant is spacious and plenty of tables. Clean inside. The plaza is fairly busy and parking might be an issue. They play Latin music fairly loud and there's TV showing soccer/sports most of the time. I love their cheese pupusa. I love their dough and how cheesy they make it. The cheese and chicken combination doesn't work that well. Each pupusa cost $3 each plus tax. They give you coleslaw (curtido) and a tomato sauce. The only downfall which is not this restaurants fault is the entire parking lot which hasn't been paved for many years. I have driven by this place a million times. Tried twice, if there is a soccer game impossible. Today I was in the neighborhood and tried my hand again, successs! So the food, let's talk about that, that's why we all look up yelp, no? Outstanding! No lie! Very generous portions, amazing flavour, amazing flavour. I kind of caught the staff at a surprise, I was the inky person in there at the tine today, around 1pm. No discredit to staff on hand, I just was the only person dining in. Started a touch, and I mean, I touch. But once I initiated contact things quickly progressed. I should add I am a native speaker of Spanish, that might have helped. I am also confident that one in English could just as well be served. My server today was Outstanding! Simply outstanding, just enough attention without being over bearing. I really enjoyed my experience. The pupusas revevueltas are stuffed properly with all of the goods and can be tasted in every bite, wall to wall. I have to say first off, i'm not a regular pupusa connoisseur. All i know is that it's kinda like a pancake (made with corn flour), and could be stuffed with a variety of ingredients including beans, cheese, pork rinds and some various combinations of the above mentioned. From looking at some pictures on Yelp, I saw that these were quite large compared to ones i've seen/eaten before. So based on the recommendation of the lady behind the cash, who said people typically order 2-3, I ordered 2. I think I could have done with 1.5....but I was alone, and I didn't want to waste food. I ordered a zucchini and cheese, and a bean and cheese. I didn't realize that it came with a big bowl of coleslaw (vinegar based). It was a surprisingly yellow colour...not sure what made it yellow, but it was quite tasty. I ate that massive bowl myself! Back to the pupusas, it came with a bottle of something that was similar to a salsa with less punch. I originally thought it was hot sauce. I topped both my pupusas with a generous amount of that red sauce, sprinkled on some hot pepper sauce (each table had a bottle of it), and of course a healthy serving of that tasty coleslaw. It was super delicious. For a relatively flat 'pancake' there was a lot of filling in each of the pupusas! Will definitely be back if i'm ever in the area. I came here at 12 lunch time.. They only take cash, but also have an ATM machine inside. The dinning place is big. I placed my order for take out and it took about 30min before I got it, but it was warm and fresh.. qnd still hot by the time I got home. The service is good and friendly. The pupusas are packed with cheese and pork (the ones i ordered). They are 3.35 each. The jarritos are 3.11 each. I have been to many pupusa places and found the stuffijg amazing and packed.. good quality and size for the price. Pupusas here are good. My fiance is salvadoran and brought me there many times. I have eaten many pupusas these ones are heavy and greasy. But they are still good. The yuca fritas i think is frozen from a bag they dont taste fresh. The customer service is not that good. The bathrooms are very dirty. One time there was toilet paper in the stairway and no toilet paper in the bathroom luckily I carry napkins all the time. They play good latin music . In summary, Its an okay place, but its not great, the food is satisfactory. But not a clean space and staff is rude. Its almost like the women working there are just focusing on taking orders and cooking. Not focus on cleaning or customers. If they cleaned and was nice, then would be 5 stars. Having Spanish roots I am very partial to Latin American food. In Toronto there is no shortage of places to go. This has been my first visit here, however, it will not be the last. I ordered the usual things I know from El Salvador cuisine: pupusas, beans, plantain, and horchata. I has very happy with the different selection of pupusas they had, my favorite is still the mixed on with pork and red beans or the cheese only. Both were made to order and made right! The dressing is always very good and the sauce seems to be home made. The rice drink which is typically easy to make can be screwed up if not done properly, however, it was done very well here. I must say that the dining room area is much bigger in the inside then looking in from outside would suggest. My only cons to this place is that the service was a little slow, and that they do not take plastic (debit or credit), I cannot express how much I hate establishments that do not! This happened all by accident. Some South American co-workers and I were having happy hour and they wanted to watch a soccer game. They chose a location close to yorkdale and La Pursa Loca was it, this is an family Run El Salvadorian restaurant. I dont know if this is because it was after the game or not; but the crowd was 90 percent Males chilling after work and enjoying cerveza's while watching the game. One of my co-workers suggested that I order a Papuso (then a bunch of dirty jokes happened). I asked the waitrress for the chicken and cheese and to kindly add jalapenos as well. The stuff was delicious . it was a fusion of Toritalla and Roti and Paratha all in one.Topped with a coleslaw and tomato sauce and hot sauce as well. Beware: the xxxxxhot sauce is exactly what it sounds like. I love spicy food but this one got me! I had to literally breath with my mouth open foe ten minutes after the meal. I don't know why I haven't gone here sooner! The food is amazing and authentic, the portions are huge and the prices are unbelievably low! The ratings surprise me, I think people are used to getting overpriced modern Latin food, but if you want authentic food this definitely a place worth visiting. Pupusas are a good size and come with a huge portion of coleslaw. The soups are traditional homemade hearty Latin-style soups, and the steaks and meat portions are huge and so tasty. The food is so good. I've tried pupusas elsewhere but I keep coming back here. Salsa nice tomato taste and.I like the cabbage. Unfortunately that's all this place has going for it. Service is horrible. They don't even care. Didn't check on our table once and left all the dirty plates in front of us after we sat. No drink refills. Zero. Didn't bring bill. We had to go up to them to get bill. And yes CASH ONLY hmmmmmmmm. Music was also blasting reggaeron to the point I couldn't have a good conversation. Probably one of the grossest places ever. I mean first off when I went, there was a drunk man who constantly stared at my table with a plastic cup of beer in his hands.. I'd hope he brought it from home because it didn't look appealing.. While we were waiting for our order. WHICH BY THE WAY CASH ONLY. Second I ordered cheese Papusa and it tasted like cold bread in stale dollar store cheese. The lady was constantly on her phone and seemed too distracted to take the payment for our order.. To start it was a very cold day in Toronto when we decided we wanted to eat out. We decided on Salvadoran food and choose this place. Be aware that there is no heat and even the staff were wearing hats and coats. When we were here it was busy but it still took more than 15 minutes to get a menu and another 10 minutes to place the order. Food while delicious, took nearly 30 minutes to be served. Don't expect a fast meal. Overall, if you aren't in a hurry and don't mind sitting in the cold you could do worse than this place. read more

Ordered a steak. The waitress told me to get a specific plate as it is the "same steak" but it's less expensive. BIG MISTAKE. When the plate came it was not even a four oz steak. Paper thin and over cooked. They also had on the plate about three tablespoons of rice. A cup of dried out tasteless beans and a cup sour cream and a whole yellow plantain that wasn't even cooked properly. The worst plate of food I have ever been served. The pupusa is the only thing good on the menu. My daughter order the Lomo Saltado. And the plate was enormous but it was about 3 onions and 2 peppers with about 6 tiny slivers of beef. My daughter and mother had massive food poisoning, my daughter had to be rush by ambulance do to severe food positioning. Everyone knows this place is not that good. I dont think my mom was to familiar with the bad and horrific cooking everyone talks about. We went about 2 years ago and swore we never set foot there again the food was horrific and terribly dry. A large bill for food we never ate. My daughter was hungry and wanted pupusa now she will probably never eat one again, it is to bad that and establishment can be that dirty in the back or not handle food properly. Sinse not to many frequent maybe food such as pork is kept for long and almost killed someone. I hope they shut them down. I first heard about this place by a few of my Latin co-workers and El Salvadorian friends. They swore that the Papusas there are the best ever--I completely agree! I've had many authentic Papusas experiences, so I would consider myself pretty knowledgeable in this field lol I wouldn't normally write a review without an extensive testing of their menu. The service was extremely slow. I noticed that people who came in after us were served before us, we were the only non-Hispanics inside, go figure? This restaurant reminds me an old outdated dive bar in little Portugal (no offense, I love dive bars). The papusas are only $2.50 to $3.50 and are absolutely scrumptious. The portions are huge and the slaw is perfect. The papusas sauce has a wonderful flavour that goes so well with the corn tortilla. They have three different papusas, beef, cheese and veggie. The Cheese is to absolutely die for, it tastes so fresh, the outside it lightly crisped and the inside is so soft and gooey! I'm have a huge tummy and two of them will easily fill me up. Everything else on the menu was around $10-15 dollars, more of a family dinning menu. If you can't speak Hispanic, I don't recommend dinning there, The server was overly friendly with other Hispanic patrons, but an absolute shrewd to my friend and I; we were so polite. However, the atmosphere at times is that of a Central American tavern on a weekend afternoon with really loud ranchera-style music blaring out if the speakers making it difficult to have a conversation if you are more than 1 person. The service is lacking. Allow 30-45 minutes to have mains served if the restaurant is more than half full. The prices were recently raised. I feel the other reviewers that had a bad experience either are not patient with people who's first language isnt English, or they are just racist.
