This course is BY FAR the most challenging and difficult golf course I have ever played. Beautiful setting, very nicely kept (except the buildings which are run down and need remodeling), great greens which not a one is level! Tough putting, narrow fairways, lots of trees, and a foot or so off the fairway and you'll never find your ball! Water traps, very windy after 11am, bunkers right where you don't want them, oak trees in the fairways, A TOUGH COURSE! But, if you want a challenge - then get a tee time and see if you don't lose your cool. read more

Another beautiful morning for golf, 12 seasoned friends here to play the challenging La Purisima course. Fully stocked pro shop in case you forgot anything, open snack bar will satisfy your appetite. Absolutely super weather no winds. Tee boxes were groomed and in good shape but no defined gold tees, we played from the whites. Fairways accepted your good drives, second shots were usually challenging and guarded by menacing eucalyptus and oak trees. Large deep bunker's protected the treacherous greens If your ball was above the pin, it most likely was going to roll off unless it found the bottom of the cup. They're were a few holes that were unplayable today because of the greens. Would like to see gold tees added to all the tee boxes, there's room. Beautiful course and surrounding grounds abundant wild life will be watching you. Bring on the gold and we'll back. read more

It was a perfect golf experience. From the friendly and welcoming greeting we received in the golf shop to the ease and comfort of ordering breakfast in the snack shop. The driving range allows you to hit off grass, no mats. The practice facility has chipping areas and sand traps along with a large putting green. The course was in excellent condition. The fairways are lush like carpet and the fringe is very well manicured. Greens were fun, not too fast- not too slow. We saw deer on almost every hole on the back nine. We played in 4 hours and could have finished quicker if we played better. It's a tough track! But extremely fun! I look forward to playing it again in the future. read more

Best Golf Course on the Centeral Coast and one of the best in all of California. There is not a weak hole on the course. Bring your "A" Game cause it's a challenge.... especially on the back 9 if the wind is up, with the 15th, 16th, 17th, & 18th all running into the prevailing wind....... It is called La Piranha by locals because it will eat you alive if you are not careful. read more

We loved the layout but the course definitely wasn't in great condition. Maybe we are used to better maintained courses. There are very little paved golf cart paths. Most are dirt. Sand traps are more rock than sand. Greens were decent. But I could only imagine this course in immaculate condition. It would be incredible! We did love that we felt out in the middle of nowhere with no houses around the course. It was a difficult course but in a good way. read more

Do not try to.play this course if you carry over a 15 GHIN rating... So, I can recommend it to those better golfers, and not for golfers with a higher rating as the course will probably ly kick your butt. read more

Not being from this area, La Purisima was not on my radar of courses to play north of SB. But a friend from Buellton finally convinced me to head north of VC and play a weekend round with him. La Purisima not only pleasantly surprised me with the course layout, I can't believe I hadn't played here before. I'm usually playing local muni's in my area so to me I found La Purisima challenging but fair. I love the course layout and obviously really enjoy the more brisk weather further up the 101. The club house is very warm, welcoming, and has plenty of shoulder room where it's not too cramped. The driving range is "unique" in it's own way. The putting green is expansive to a degree where you won't be competing for putting spots. Obviously watering any course is going to be a challenge throughout southern California during these dry years. I think La Purisima does the best they can considering how large the course is. In my mind, if you aren't from this area, La Purisima is worth the drive especially if you can finish off your round with a stop at Fig Mountain Brewery! read more

Visited here right after Memorial day. Had the course almost to ourselves. What a spectacular course. Every hole is so unique. Probably the most fun I have had playing golf. Difficult? Yes, very. But what a blast. You must really think about every shot. Nice Pro Shop. Good price. The signs and markings on the course are limited to almost non existent, but didn't bother us too much. Although, did get lost trying to find hole 5. There was no one ahead of us to follow. It got pretty windy, but not so much as to affect our game that much. I can't wait to play it again now that I have a better feel for the layout. I tried walking it, but ended up riding on the back 9. It is long. At the end of front 9, I had already clocked 4.5 miles of walking. But it was so much fun to play. read more

We golfed this golf course 2 months ago and fell in love with it so I brought up 6 friends. I called ahead of time and Stacy set everything up for our arrival. When we arrived everything was perfect and waiting for our arrival. The customer service we received from James and Stacy was top of the line in every aspect. A nice golf course. feels like playing golf in a prairie. Good pace of paly. A little bit pricy though.

The golf course itself gets 4 stars (no fifth because of so many unfair blind shots). The grill gets 5 stars for the best burger I have had in a long time. The cool motorcycle/scooters you can rent to ride with your clubs get 5+ stars. The 3 star overall review is because the course management is non-existent. We had a great front nine and then ran into a group playing like it was Sunday for the course championship. After waiting at least 5-10 minutes per shot from 10 on, we gave up after 12 holes and left. It would be nice to have marshals on the course to actually speed groups up or let faster groups pass. It is frustrating to pay a lot of money for a good course only to have inconsiderate golfers to ruin it. read more

I booked a round through golf moose app and then called the pro shop to make a tee time which is just like any course, super easy and they had a Saturday 1/9/2021 at 9am available. After showing up the front pro shop employee was very pleasant and nice, explained everything about the course where to go how to get to places prior to tee time etc. Once we teed off and played a few holes we saw the same consistent maintenance hole for hole which the conditions were really good, especially being in January and the greens were rolling exceptional well and true. It was slower than the normal I was use to several years back but it wasn't bad maybe a 9.5 or 10 on speed. Fairways were great and so were tee box as far as conditions. Only complaint was driving range which was trying to find good grass patches to find to hit off but that was it. The pace of play was great, never waited on any shot for any hole and we got really lucky as their was no wind not even a breeze the entire round and the sun was shining a perfect 71 temperature today. Really look forward to coming back here again in the future. read more

Fun course, lots of challenges, greens quick but roll true. The course was in good shape (even after the drought), although there were some rough and barren areas. What made the round even more fun was that they just started renting Golfboards! I have been wanted to try one and was thrilled to get a chance. Not only was it a blast, it definitely can speed up your round (as advertised). I happened to play alone, and easily finished in under 3 hours! Also of note: They have a great place to have lunch, including a selection of wines available by tastes and glasses via a series of cruvinets. If you're maxed out on wine, they have good beer on tap, too. Unfortunately, they at 3pm during the week, so no lingering over a beer after your round. Good pro shop, too. Others have pointed out that the paths are rough and worn, and are not always easy to spot. But if you're riding a Golfboard, you'll end up avoiding most of them anyway! read more

Interesting layout which required some guessing to get to the right hole. This course is like Minnesota West, full of water hazard. The staff was friendly. For the money, this was a bargain partly because the fairways were mostly par 4's. read more

La Purisima has a really challenging and particularly unique design; it features quite a lot of water hazards, as well as more than a few water hazards. Tip: This is the kind of course where it pays to have local knowledge of the course before the fact; playing with a caddy or a fellow golfer who's a veteran of the course is recommended. While there are several holes that seem somewhat "rough around the edges", overall the fairways and greens are in very good condition. I've only played this course once thus far, but I could tell it would be interesting and challenging to play many times - I look forward to returning :-) read more

I had the most beautiful opportunity to stay and play at the La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, CA. The golf course was tough but what a beautiful course, but most of all was the farm house where we stayed. The farmhouse is on the course with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two kitchens, a hot tub and much more. I can't say enough about La Purisima! read more

My favorite place to play golf... hands down La Purisima, aka the Piranha, is located off highway 246 in Lompoc, way off the beaten path. You'll absolutely love it here. It never takes me longer than 4.5 hours to play a round... and WHAT A COURSE! This is championship caliber, no doubt. The course has held final stage of PGA q-school. Only costs about $60 to play on the weekends. Best value around and well worth the long drive to get there (about 45 min north of Santa Barbara). Make sure you stop by the Firestone Brewery on the way back or maybe even the Chumash casino for a little gambling afterwards. read more

Diamond in the hidden ruff. This course is beautiful. Food is outstanding too. Okay so we're here again romping through Middle Cali doing what we do best and find this course in the mid of nowhere. Super low expectations but it has nothing to do with the overall review. This place would get 5 stars from me in my own backyard. Tee boxes are perfect, clean and level. Fairways look like the outfield of a baseball field and the greens roll true. No hoppy, bumpy rolls that you can expect from courses that don't get much attention. We had two foursomes and a proposal on the 9th green...she said yes! Great day for golf and a proposal. oh yeah food is great too. We had Patty melt, BLT, Reuben and chicken tenders and they all were very well made. We'll will surely be back. Watch out for the wind though later in the day...it can really blow on you. read more

Great course, tough course!!! great price and... the best Tri tip and chili in the bar and grill!!, The Piranha Bar and Grill. My husband and I think we had tried all the best chili in the U. S. until we had the chef's Zachary Zavala chili. It was the best we have ever tasted and WOW, the aroma and each bite was habit making. I ordered another bowl. His tritip was fabulous, so delicious!! . He is so professional, so knowledgeable and passionate, fun, and engaging, Every entree is a special treat as he is!!! We stayed at the Farm House located on the course by the 1st & 10th tees during a week day(s) visit. The facilities were top notch. If you are a golfer or have buddies/family that enjoy the sport then time at the Farm House is perfect. All the golf you want in a day or multiple days. The Farm House can sleep up to 8 has huge dining, living spaces, large TV (wifi), 4 bathrooms, hot tub and BBQ. We combined eating there with going into Lompoc/Solvang for a few meals. The staff at La Purisima was first class and friendly. They even let us try out a golf scooter to see if we were willing enough for a ride on one (we weren't) our rounds. The course was in excellent condition. The greens rolled nicely, the fairways and tees were in excellent shape. It's not a course for a beginner, but we are all Bogey golfers, so it worked out nicely. I would definitely recommend it. The surroundings are beautiful. If you like wine tasting there are several excellent wineries within a few miles. Try it. You'll like it! Scott B read more

First, let me start by saying that based on the interaction with staff in making the tee time and the reception at check-in, my expectations were pretty high as both were very engaging and pleasant. Then came what I will call the "Rough Rider Round"... Holy cow! The course was SO bumpy! Couldn't find a smooth surface anywhere. Not the fairways, not the cart paths, ANYWHERE. It was really rather uncomfortable especially given that the course, in general, has few flat lies as it is. The course conditions from the tee boxes to the greens were patchy and it seems few care about fixing their ball marks. Granted, we're playing late in the season (October) but expected more from this course based on previous reviews. Oh, and one last thing; one of the fairway maintenance guys driving a large/loud mowing machine kept following us and also parked in the middle of the fairway when we set up for our drives! What the heck? Perhaps he imagined two women playing on a Tuesday wouldn't mind the constant noise and disruption? We're all for course maintenance, but his timing and persistence did not enhance our experience. read more

Solid track. 7100 from the tips and it was quite breezy today so some holes played much longer. Some great holes include: 9- 220 yard-ish par 3. Going to need a solid long iron shot on this hole. Tough. But fair 16- A 430 yard Par 4. Plays a touch longer. If you don't knock a solid drive off the tee, prepare for a tough and near impossible second shot. 18- A testy 400 yard Par 4. Plays much longer, as it is right into the teeth of the wind. Overall the course was in great shape, greens perfect, and it is quite open, not that many people playing on a weekend. I'd say a very fair course, and it let's you know what the shot requires, no real "blind" shots are to be found. read more

WOW...this course was amazing tough little track and on alot of land, what can I say besides its in this small city of Lompoc where you have to take 2 small hwy off the 101 to get to it but man it was worth the drive. I was playing with two friends and his buddy Josh who is a professional golfer that was on the big break. Josh and my buddy are very good golfers and for me I'm average, they both shot pretty close to par from the tips, me on the other hand shot 101 and I'm a 8.5 handicap. So this course can humble you in a second. Bring your A game or stay home, not worth the 2.5-3 hr drive from LA if you aren't on your game, you will be frustrated beyond anything. From the looks of the course it looks pretty easy but will eat away at you like no other. A++ golf course will come back here and play again. read more

A very tough course that's going to put a John Daly-size hurt on you if you don't bring your A game. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic and beautifully kept course with some of the best views around as it is nestled deep within the hills and wineries of the area. There is one particular hole -- I think 15 -- that looks like something straight out of Wii Golf; you've got to max out your drive, then decide to lay up or hit a monster second shot to clear a menacing looking ravine. The fees are surprisingly low -- we paid about $37 (web special) with cart for a weekday twilight and finished well before sunset. The clubhouse restaurant serves excellent gastro-pub fare, and the all-grass practice facilities are first-rate. read more
