Last group run before the race, 05/19/2009

I trained with LA Roadrunners (Venice beach location) for the LA Marathon 2009, my first one. It was an absolutely fantastic experience for me. I run regularly about 20 miles a week before joining the training program. I joined about 2 month before the race. My first Saturday run was a 15 mile one (never done it before). The program: Very good one, progress gradually, leading you running 20 miles before the racing day. Lots of useful information about training, eating, and racing preparation, some against my intuitions. There were water breaks about every 2 miles, thanks to the water station volunteers. The roadrunners also had their own starting area on the racing day. That alone is worth the registration fee. The pace leaders: They are all volunteers and have run multi marathons themselves in a faster pace than the group pace. Not only did they come every single Saturday leading the pack, but on the race day. Setting the pace on the race day in the sea of 14000 people is not a job anyone can or will do. The pace leaders are just wonderful. The running mates: Some are talkative, some are shy. You trained together, and you race together. Keep each other motivated, so valuable, especially after mile 22. Result: I completed the race in 4 hours and 15 minutes, I was thrilled. I own this to LA Roadrunners. The Roadrunner program is wonderful, but it is people that makes it unforgettable. I am definitely coming back.

The trainers are incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely committed to fitness. I've learned proper form, improved my posture, and built strength I didn't know I had. When I first started lifting, I was wobbly and off-balance - like Bambi. Now, I feel confident and powerful. I've also gained a much better understanding of how important nutrition is. This is hands down the best gym I've ever been to, and I'm so glad I found it. Shout out to the trainer Alexis who has been so patient with me and cheered me on since day one. She's so motivational. She always has such a warm and positive spirit about her. I don't know how she does it with her super early morning classes lol She is truly a gem. Out of all trainers I have ever had she is the one that has inspired me the most to know that it's possible and I can do it. The proof is there! I've done DEXA scans along the way and I've continuously cut fat and gained muscle.

The small group training format makes a huge difference: the coaches genuinely care about your progress, and you feel like you're getting stronger together. Their approach is refreshingly balanced, no pressure to train every single day. They encourage consistency with a realistic 3x-a-week cadence that's sustainable and actually delivers results. One of the biggest standouts is their incredible nutritionist, Celia. She's knowledgeable, encouraging, and keeps things flexible and realistic, no rigid plans or extreme restrictions. Plus, because she's also a trainer at the gym, she understands the full picture of your training and can tailor her guidance accordingly. I've worked with several nutritionists in the past and Celia is by far the best. Lift Society even throws in the occasional social outing, which makes it feel more like a community than just a gym. It's honestly one of the hardest things to leave behind as I move from LA to Brooklyn.

Would like certain machines to get fixed at faster rates (e.g. the seated ab bench has been broken for months) It would be great to have more dumbbell increments too (especially 27.5 lbs) I've noticed that some of the benches' screws aren't tight enough, and the bench will wiggle when I'm trying to support my back. In addition, the air conditioning is inconsistent, and it sometimes will be really hot when it's non-peak hours. There are enough cable machines, but some are stretched out which makes it hard to track progress.

Before signing up, I specifically asked about early morning opening hours since I really enjoy working out in the mornings, and that ended up being a great fit for me. Big thanks to Dariana from the sales team, always friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. I ended up canceling my membership after relocating, but I stayed a little over a year and had a very solid experience overall. The cardio classes were especially great, shoutout to Berbard, those sessions were no joke What I liked most is that it feels more like a lifestyle club than just a gym. The space is very clean, the vibe is upscale but comfortable, and if you avoid peak hours, you can finish your workout without waiting for equipment. The only minor downside is that some overly chatty members tend to camp on machines, so you have to be a bit patient at times. Overall, it was a really good experience, and I would definitely consider Equinox again if the location made sense for me.

(This review is for fitness training with David S)…read more I can't recommend David highly enough. As a former college athlete, he brings a deep level of knowledge--not just in building strength and fitness, but also in injury management, recovery, and long-term sustainability. That expertise shows up in every session. As an athlete in my mid-40s with my fair share of injuries and the wear and tear that comes with age and life, David has been very helpful. He has helped me stay consistent, get stronger, and avoid setbacks. What really sets him apart is how attentive and adaptable he is. He adjusts workouts on the fly based on how you're feeling that day, while still challenging you in the right ways. He brings great energy, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor that makes tough workouts enjoyable. And after the workout he takes you through stretches, which is a great way to end the session. It helps me feel calm and restored as I transition to the next thing. Beyond all of that, David is simply a kind, genuine person who truly cares about his clients. It's clear this is more than a job for him--it's his mission.

The 6-week programs are structured in a way that makes it easy to track progress and actually see improvement. When I started, I couldn't stand for long periods due to back pain. Now I've built real functional strength and am working toward muscle gain, something that once felt very far away. I take Paul's classes and he's incredibly attentive. He corrects form, offers smart modifications, and makes sure we're challenged every week. His coaching truly makes a difference. Highly recommend if you want structured training, real results, and a supportive environment.
