The table had several empty glasses and plates while we were seated. The waiter handed us sticky food stained menus and advised us too order at the bar, and left leaving the table with dirty plates and glasses. I made a selection and went up to the bar too order, I waited 10 minutes for a barman to take my order as there was nobody behind the bar. I placed my order and asked for my table to be cleared, and was told to speak with a waiter. After finally clearing the table myself I received my order which was incorrect. It was at this point I advised that I wanted to complain and was told to contact customer services and I decided to leave the restaurant. I will not be going again.

However, we went for pre-cinema cocktails (without kids, of course) and the service was much better at the bar! The barmaid advised me on the cocktails and prevented a possible disappointment, which I was grateful for! I ended up with a gorgeous cocktail called a Strawberry Shortcake, with strawberries, Amaretto (my all time favourite!) and lots of lovely vanilla ice cream. Lovely! Following a £1million + renovation, The Kings Head has been transformed into a ultra modern pub/dining experience that has attracted a large number of people from around the area. With its classy lower level pub atmosphere on the bottoms floor, The Kings Head also boasts an upstairs, known as 'The Attic' offering a more club like vibe as opposed to downstairs. This is known to get relatively busy on the weekends, so be warned. Overall, the drink prices are what you would expect of a pub in this area, with the food being fairly reasonably priced as well, offering 2 for 1 on all mains. Definitely worth a visit, if not of an evening, then perhaps in the day for a spot to eat and a seat in the fantastic beer garden.

Penny Blacks had a fairly upmarket feel to the place, with a large projection of the football in the middle of the bar. For a Saturday afternoon It wasn't that busy, but still managed to have a slightly upbeat atmosphere throughout. The seating was extremely comfortable, with various sofas dotted about. The location itself is fantastic. Being feet away from the canal on days like Saturday, with the sun beaming down, Penny and Blacks is potentially one of the best bars I have been to in the surrounding area. Despite not ordering any food, I had a quick look at the menu and I can honestly predict that I'll be back to have a bite to eat and a few beers when the football kicks off this summer.

Service was friendly and reasonably fast, despite the fact that they had a lot of food orders at the same time. The wine selection looks pretty good, but actually they have a fantastic selection of real ales, including some less-well known types. These were well served and well kept, and we could easily have spent the whole afternoon there. (Ok, we did..) The food isn't quite as swish as the web-site implies - I thought it was decent, if slightly pricey, pub grub. However, portions were generous, so overall it was good value for money. I'd happily go back.

Usually full on Fridays and Saturdays (not hard since there's room for around 25 people max inside) so book if you want to go! Food is lovely, tapas style, a mix of italian, spanish and turkish. Prices have gone up since it opened but it is still very reasonable indeed. Perhaps best of all it's bring your own bottle in the evenings, keeping the cost down even more! A really great place to enjoy a cosy meal with friends.

All the time we were there we had good service and were given some free nibbles. It's unlikely that I'd go there regularly due to the price but its definetely worth going there for a special occasion.

Breakfast Review (St Patricks Day):…read more Today, I was told that it had to be a Full Irish breakfast at Bar Opus, a very modern, chic establishment strategically placed right in the centre of the business district and next to Snow Hill Rail Station. I have been here before and had a good breakfast. It was good, like many others. Today, however, I had an excellent breakfast. Featuring 2 sausages, (1 a black pudding sausage, 1 a traditional sausage), which were both very good. You don't get bacon here, you get a wonderful baked ham. You are also served Black Pudding, (excellent), the more unusual white pudding, a fried egg, Beans, (separate), a flat mushroom, a half tomato and what I thought was a potato cake, but was told it was an Irish bread, (a farl). It was lovely. The additional bonus today, celebrating St Patrick's day was a bottle of Guinness! It was served promptly. It was hot, the ingredients were obviously very high quality, the service was excellent too. What's not to love. In summary: Nearly the perfect breakfast. Definitely as good as the best you can buy in Birmingham. 9/10.

The cocktail menu isn't vast, but is well executed. As is often the way with Opus, quality over quantity. We went for a couple of platters made up of the bar bites. This was a great way to keep us all few whilst sampling across them menu. So, another successful trip to this latest venture. Now all I need is to test that a la carte menu.... ;)

The restaurant is on Kings Norton Green, a lovely area which is sadly neglected when it comes to good places to eat (Mollie's Cafe is an exception). Obviously the fine people of Kings Norton agree with me as on the two occasions we have been the restaurant has been bursting at the seams. The decor is very modern, service is good, the menu is extensive (i mean extensive - lots of chef's specials) and the food superb. Cost is very reasonable - a meal for 5 with starters, mains, sides, poppadoms and drinks (a mixture of alcoholic and non alcoholic) came to £133 so less than £30 each. This has quickly become a Go To place for those of us living on the south-west side of the city and it beats the curry houses in Stirchley hands down. They also do a Sunday buffet for £9.95 per person - havent been to that so cant comment on it though!
