My friend has lived here several years and glad she got that out of the way so I won't move here. This place sucks. I'm writing this review for her since she doesn't use yelp. I hang with her multiple times a week so I feel like I can get a good sense of the place and how it's ran, especially since she tells me the issues and experiences she has. I've also gone into the office with her and can see how the office staff is first hand. The office staff is always put off with any requests or questions. My friend brings in her check and they act like it's an inconvenience to get up take the check and issue a receipt. Oh I'm sorry is it an inconvenience to pay your bills? Also, the rarely follow up with service calls. It takes days to get a little thing fixed. The rent keeps going up year over year but get nothing out of it. When I lived down the road when my rent went up they'd at least offer carpet cleaning and a new bedroom fan since I didn't have one before. This place is not worth over 900 a month for a one bedroom. My friends apt smells like weed because of the neighbors. She's complained and it never gets fixed. Also the parking is a hot mess. There's never any uncovered spots because residents park in those and leave the covered ones open. So as having friends over is a pain in the butt. They need to fix up the parking map. My friends had enough complaints where I would never move here or recommend this place. Rude staff and crappy areas. read more

I wanted to update my review and state how unsatisfied I am living here. They are landscapers at least twice a week every single week that wake you up early in the morning with blowers and chainsaws and it goes on for like 20 min unnecessarily. There's no reason to have Landscaper come to your complex that often. It's actually very annoying on top of that. There's a roach in the house basically every day . Extremely Disappointed - Not Worth the Hassle It's been a rollercoaster of unfortunate events since day one. While the community itself is great and family/dog friendly, dealing with management and maintenance has been a nightmare. They do try to make things right, but honestly, it's rarely worth the constant hassle. Maintenance is an ongoing "he said, she said" game -- they'll tell you something needs to be replaced, then report to the office that it's fixed. I've had to walk to the office, show pictures, and demand action. When I did, the managers (Debbie & Renee) brushed it off, saying maintenance had already left for the day -- at 4 p.m., even though they leave at 4:30. One of the worst incidents was when our replaced dishwasher wasn't properly installed -- it nearly fell on my 8-month-old and caused our apartment to flood. The on-call maintenance said they'd arrive in 45 minutes... it took over 4 hours while the water kept rising. Dawn in the office was always lost, Mercedes tried her best but could never get answers, and everything was "we're trying to reach Debbie." When management switched, Carla seemed kind and worked quickly to get us out of a mold-infested unit, but they started cutting into moldy walls while we were still living there. Being young, I didn't know we could have broken the lease due to the uninhabitable conditions. They moved us to another unit, but that one had its own issues -- every time it rained, it rained inside. On top of that, there was a constant bug infestation. We were diligent with maintenance requests, followed their schedule, and moved our dog around to accommodate them, but it never got better. My family is still dealing with the health effects of living in mold, and management has done nothing to compensate us. Instead, they charged outrageous fees for giving a 40-day notice instead of 60 -- even though we left before our lease end date. If you value your health, safety, and sanity, look elsewhere. They will nickel-and-dime you for everything and take zero accountability for their own negligence. Oh and let me tell you it all stems from the property management that is not even based in Arizona I met with her as well kind but doesn't do a thing. Management company is extremely disorganized and will overcharge on monthly expenses without explanation of charges. Rent is raised annually. The property amenities are routinely closed without prior notice (pools/hot tubs) and if they're not closed, they're often unclean (pool was green most of summer and dog poop throughout the complex). It's nearly impossible to receive compensation after disputing false charges. Management claims they're "waiting for the billing office to send the checks" however it takes months before compensation is received. Odds are you won't receive your security deposit back. Many previous residents cited never receiving their promised security deposits back even after being told by the management company that the apartments were left in pristine condition. I lived here for 3 years and I can promise you that there are much better properties out there. read more

Absolutely not. We just moved out and I had to call them to see about my refund and wouldn't you know it they added so much to my utilities that I still owe them. Mind you that our move out day was the 31st of the month but we were able to move in middle of the month to our new house so from the 15th of the month to the 31st we we're not at this complex yet our utilities were extremely high. They have no proof of the utilities being used they just put whatever they want. read more

I know I wrote a review about a year ago about this complex, but let me update you. I moved out because my unit flooded. I received no assistance, basically. The flooding happened at the end of January leaving me in a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom, when I originally was in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom. I paid full rent. When asked about a reimbursement, multiple times, (per landlord tenant law) I basically was told too bad for February, but we will give you $600 off for March. That's when I threw in the towel and said I am done. It blows me away how management is so easily swayed to lose someone who pays early, never has had a complaint, and is extremely clean, to take their chance on someone else all because they couldn't just reimburse me for something that is law. I was never asked, at the flooding, if I wanted to move out. I was basically told "the damage is not that bad". My APS went from $90 to $250 in the month of February with NO help from management once again. I documented EVERYTHING. Absolutely horrific. The management in these complexes sure do not care anymore about their tenants even though it is law. Photos will show what I lived in for a month in a half and all I received was $600 off between January 28th and March 14th. Seems pretty fair, right? Let's just say I am completely sick to my stomach about this whole experience and I will NEVER recommend this place. It's out dated, it's too expensive, and apparently management has no passion for their tenants. The only person I appreciated out of this whole place was Robert at the front desk. He actually cared but there is only so much he can do. He needs to be management because I feel he would fight for the tenants. I miss Patty as the property manager. I am on year 3 of living at this amazing property. I've never had any issues here. The property is well kept and the atmosphere is tranquil. The staff is great and if I need anything they respond quickly! My favorite amenities here are the pool and the grilling area! Everyone here including the staff is friendly and that counts for alot. I'm been living here for ten years. I just wanted to move to another apartment. The new management told me on December 15,2023 that my new apartment is going to be ready on February 1,2024. Me and my husband take 2 days off for our moving date. We packed all of our stuff. Reserved moving company. on February first , after I got the new apartment key, first we just walked in to check the apartment but unfortunately, it wasn't really ready to move ( a lot of issues ( bathroom, paint walls, floor, window blinders , and many many things) . After I got so upset and mad with the office, they offered me 2 different apartments that I didn't like them because I the level and view. The management told you move your stuff, I'll send the maintenance to fix the issues. So I started to move because I didn't have any choice. Now 4 days past , i moved all of my stuff, but still my new apartment has some issues. I'll share some pictures here for the first day ( moving date February 1th) that you can see how they make the new apartment ready to move. So disappointed. read more

I moved into La Serena about a week ago, and while there has been a couple of rough patches, overall it has been a positive experience. The apartment itself has had a couple of issues, mostly cosmetic, with the exception of the kitchen sink having a fairly serious leak that took longer than expected to fix, but so far it seems to be okay now. In particular, there are two staff members that have really shown me they care and have done an excellent job. Robert, at the front office, is a great guy, very personable and friendly and always attentive to residents' needs. He even came in on his day off to help with the kitchen sink issue I mentioned above, and has been my go-to guy for my entire early experience here. I also want to give props to Cesar, on the maintenance team. He stepped in once it was made clear there were multiple maintenance issues not being addressed in a timely manner, and patiently followed along with each problem as I listed it. Not only did he fix most of the non-minor issues in one day, we also made a plan over the course of the week for getting the other fixes in place too. Majorly satisfied with his service, too. I'll be sure to update this review if anything major happens, good or bad, but so far I am comfortable and enjoying myself at this property. read more

I lived there for 3 years, the first two were great. Then they changed maintenance and management and it went down hill. The new management team treats their residents like crap. They lease to anyone. When I moved out they had over 80 units vacant. Don't waste your time or money for a little bit more you can get a lot nicer place. Too many homeless people jumping the fence and come right in. Saw them sleeping by the pool, jumping out of the dumpster... stay away. read more

My sister in law moved in on Friday 4/26/24 then went to work and came home to find her quote "luxury" apt. infested w/ roaches. Mind you she's a single mother w/ 2 kids. Called the emergency help line but the operator refused to classify the infestation as an emergency. Was told to come into the office on Saturday morning. Saturday morning, I walked in to be greeted by the mgr. who was upset that this was her day off and she stated for the recording that the apt. was already bombed twice. Then threatened to forfeit her deposit. Zero remorse. Zero empathy. Selfish management. Maint. lives in Nevada and not on site. Which after my attorney looked into the LLC found that its a Nevada based corp. with owners who live in California. Sadly, the owners hire staff who don't care about the residents or the property and as a result forced a single mother to sleep in her car w/ her kids instead of offering to reimburse hotel, storage, and moving costs. read more

This complex ensures that issues are answered promptly. They're always easy to work with and professional. I did consider moving because of the rent bubble related increase but smaller apartments with less amenities are more expensive so it was still a great deal for me. I don't have dogs but the dog park is nice to see and the greens. I've always felt safe and that's a big part of why I was also fine with the rent increase. They also have an exterminator come between tenant changes so no bug issues for me. read more

PLEASE STAY AWAY! I want to start off by saying that for the most part people are nice. I hardly ever even notice my neighbors. However, the problems I have are solely with management. First, good luck trying to get a work order done. For example, I had a water heather go bad in my apartment and let management know on a Friday (please note that they do not do work orders on Weekends) I just so happen to get home early that Friday. When I came home I expected the issue to be resolved with the water heater. Was it fixed.... nope, I had to call in and ask why it wasn't done... their answer. "Oh sorry, we must've forgot to put it in" So, if I had gotten home at my usual time, after the office is closed, I would've been with out water for the entire weekend! Second, they always seem to want to invade your privacy and constantly want to come in your apartment for "inspections" mind you, there have been probably 5-6 of these since I moved in. Oh, and they expect you to crate your animals. Idk about anyone else by mine has full run of my apartment, and does not need to be crated. Third, this really has to do with the apartment/area A little less than a month ago my vehicle was broken into. I figured it was one of those bad luck kind of situations. Turns out there have been a spree of breaking since I moved in. My neighbor told me that even her car was broken into. When I co fronted management about it they said that "Even though it's a gated community it does not mean they can control who come and goes. But they do keep track of the cars that follow behind people of don't put in a gate code".... I have never ever seen a single person from management go out and confront someone who comes into the community behind a car! So, that was a lie straight to my face. I also asked why they don't tell people that these break-ins are occurring. No real answers just basically telling "they are doing everything the can" isn't making your residents aware of what's going on in the community part of managements job??? Parking is a nightmare, and they have recently taken away more of the limited marking. Anyways, if you have made it this far. Please stay away, move a little north to communities that may be a bit more money but totally worth read more

We moved in at the end of February. Our new resident checklist was read and followed up on within a week. We have a north facing apartment and so far it's been great. We live near a yappy little dog but otherwise the complex is quiet. The only two things that I don't like are those AWFUL speed bumps, and lack of visitor parking (all are always taken up by residents with a second car). I've lived here with my husband for 2 years and I loved this complex. I always felt safe and at ease until I had a letter shoved in my door for my lease renewal that my rent was going up $300 with a 30 day notice. I was told at move in that they would not charge me more than $45 per year for renewal. The office staff told me the company took that away at whim and it's out of their hands. You know, I've always felt that you have to treat most apt reviews with a grain of salt...but trust me, this place is awesome! - Great insulation - Quiet Neighbors - No bugs - New cabinets and flooring w/o paying "upgrade" fees. I lived here for over a year and a half (only moved because my new job is in Mesa). I never had any issues here. The maintenance and management staff is very pleasant. Lindsey and the front office staff are amazing. The gym has brand new equipment. As a side note, they complex just added Cox as a provider (along with centurylink). I was living there when they installed the brand new Cox lines in the building (approx 07/2014) and I was getting VERY fast speeds on my internet (about 120Mb/s on my 100Mb/s plan)--- might be useful for anybody who works a lot from home. read more

I'm giving 2 stars for this place. So I'm currently living here and I hope they'll be no retaliation about this review. For months now we've been smelling marijuana in our apartment. Well, we don't smoke it, but apparently a neighbor does, and we all sign an agreement that no drug use is allowed on property. I've called numerous times over the past 3 or 4 months and have spent a hundred dollars on air fresheners. This property management team will do nothing about it, ever. I get it, some people need the weed to function, I feel for them, but we picked this place for safety and an agreement that says drug use will not be tolerated. Well, they are tolerable of it. They didn't care that we experience headaches and smelly clothes and the possible risk of other problems like drug dealers with guns being on the premises and selling their drugs. That makes this property unsafe and risky to be around and very stressful. We are moving soon and it can't be soon enough. I hope the front office team sees this and fixes it. Don't reply to me saying you'll try, just do it and fix it for future residents. read more

These apartments are wonderful! The owners are quick to respond to any issue and always helpful with repairs when needed. The grounds are always beautiful and well-kept. They are also some of the most affordable apartments in the area, which is always a plus. My husband and I have been here for six months now and plan to stay for much longer. Our neighbors here are quiet and everyone we run into as we walk around are really nice and fun to talk to. They are also very pet friendly here and have a little enclosed dog park for dogs to run around. You get one covered parking space per apartment and we have two cars but there have always been enough visitor spots for our other one. When we moved in we had a few repairs with a door that wouldn't always shut and a microwave handle that needed replacing, along with some minor cracks on the oven's control panel, and each issue was addressed immediately and repaired. When we were looking at reviews of this place we had mixed feelings but everything we have experienced here has been perfect. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

I just moved in here about a month ago from Mesa! I heard about this complex from a friend that also lives here. I couldn't be happier to have picked this place. For a one bedroom, I'm getting 869 sq ft and am paying less than a $1 per square foot :). They were built in 2004, so everything is like-new, and up-to-date. Huge spaces including the kitchen and even a separate room for laundry/storage. In the front office, Beverly is great to speak with, she's very friendly and has helped with any questions I had. In short: 1. Quiet and safe neighborhood 2. Two pools with two hot tubs 3. Sand volleyball area next to an off the leash dog area 4. Big, newer apartments for great price 5. Ceiling fans 6. Gated community 7. Near tons of shopping plazas I can see myself living here much longer than just a year! *update: the girls in the front office are amazing, and they work well with everyone! They typically call me back within 24 hours, and maintenance usually is on top of any request. - the speed bumps are a bummer as there are a ton throughout and they are pretty high- go slow! read more

Overall, La Serena is a good place to live. However, beware of property management. The apartments are larger than average, the buildings are spaced further apart than most complexes and, until recent months, rental rates were attractive. That has changed under new ownership; lease renewal increases are much higher than before. I moved recently after two years there. Top management is not renter friendly despite their outward demeanors and newsletter statements. Lease violation citations were often petty and rule enforcement very inconsistent. I was written up for having beautiful plants on my patio wall (there were compliments from neighbors) and a wind chime. That was overlooked for many others, including a current leasing agent, however. One night there was a loud whining sound coming from the pool area. It sounded like a pump was self-destructing so I hit the emergency shut-off button. After reporting that to a maintenance worker, I received a lease termination notice. While that was cancelled, I did later receive a legal 30-day notice of lease non-renewal one day before major knee surgery that left me in a full leg brace for months. They knew of the pending surgery. To their credit, I was given a 3 week extension so I had more time to find a new place and move. Over time, it seemed that my reports of jammed walk gate locks, irrigation system problems, etc. were not appreciated. No good deed goes unpunished at La Serena. It can be a good place to live, just try not to draw the attention of management. read more

Been here since March 2017 this is by far one the the best apt communities I have lived in... they are quiet, well maintained and the staff has been very friendly. Only problem is they have no maintenance on weekends working full time I prefer to be home when they come into my home... they do keep the property clean and neat. I moved in in February. Very nice, professional staff. Very nice looking property. Good maintenance team. I've never had a serious issue with bugs. The unit looks very nice, clean. I would continue to renew if I didn't want to get a house and get out of apartment living. Very good price on rent for a beautiful apartment with a beautiful view, so the price is definitely a steal of a deal. Good pocket of PHX. Residents keep to themselves. Very quiet. I have lived here for 4.5 years. I have debated to review because in my heart I just wanted everything to be easy. Management here at the complex along with the management team in Los Vegas has made my stay here any but. They fail to meet standards of a low rate complex let alone one whom display themselves as luxurious. I currently have a hot water heater that is leaking from the top of it a mix of water and rust. The garbage disposal works for 5 seconds before it smokes and stops. The front door has never locked or shut correctly. The master bathroom has holes in the dry wall were it is rotted on both sides and there are ants that come in when the weather changes. The window in the second room or the patio slider don't align up properly so when my neighbors below me barbecue or smoke I get visible smoke in my place. The ceiling fan in the living room stopped working so I just purchased one of my own and installed it. The second bath sink has rust marks and cracks to the porcelain. The fan for the ac on auto never shuts off. The dishwasher is rusted and has not worked in years. I can only use it as a rusty dish rack. The carpet going into the kitchen has carpet tachs showing...be careful they will get you...! I have ask...complained and had a meeting with there mantaince super who's says Crystal the manager will not replace anything. I have also spoke with Ryan there superior who said no problem we will fix it all. Well it still not fixed and some of these issues are years old. I'm just tired of dealing with such a one sided company. If your a minute later on rent there no grace but only a hammer. But we are always asked for grace like right now no spa and the pools been closed for 5 months...? The workout room is always a mess and smells. My opinion don't rent here there are better options from what I'm seeing. read more

Been here for about 4 months now and I'm giving this place one star for a very good reason, because I am not proud to call this my home, My girlfriend and I moved in with our pup and have had horrible experiences so far and will most likely not be renewing our lease. The management changes every 2 months it seems, you will never get the same maintenance crew because they always fire them and hire new ones (who don't know how to fix anything and have to keep coming back over and over), they don't take care of the landscaping whatsoever and if they do they leave trimmings all over the grass, no one picks up after their dogs regardless if there is free doggy bags around, the office staff never gets back to you in a timely manner unless it's something that has to do with a reminder for rent. Since being here for 4 months, there is always new faces in the office and they never know who I am. Luxury apartments? No. No way. Everything is cheap and the pools are never maintained. Just the other day I saw one of the maintenance guys pouring gallons of liquid chlorine into the pool and that is what they call maintaining a pool!?!? The water has gone out twice and in phoenix during the summer, that is unacceptable...they provide free water but it'll go out. For anyone who wants to rent here, I forewarn you to stay far away. La Serena is a joke, poorly maintained, has horrible office personnel, and even worse maintenance crew who are all young guys who have no idea what they're doing. read more

I will start by saying I do like living here with the exception of, the maintenance staff is un educated in proper apartment maintenance and my upstairs neighbor walks so hard on the floor at 3:00 AM in the morning, it sounds like he's wearing concrete shoes, I've complained to the leasing staff and notices were given but the behavior has not changed, I'm now forced to ware ear plugs to sleep at night. I moved in fairly recently and have had nothing but problems with my apartment, the leasing office staff means well but at this point that is little consolation. I have had 3 separate incidents were the bedroom window leaks badly when it's raining, I have requested this be addressed as it's causing damage to the inside of my apartment, not to mention I may be breathing in mold spores growing in the wall. The office staff puts on a apologetic front but seems very un concerned about the end result and the maintenance staff has not correctly fixed the problem, this morning I was awakened to the sound of rushing water coming in from the top of my bedroom window. If your considering moving here, be careful, you may want to re consider your choice. I was hesitant at first about writing a review but at this point I'm so pissed off, I had to vent. This complex has been billed as Luxury apartment living but I can say it's far from Luxury. Be careful don't let their smiles and praises of the property fool you into renting here. read more

Do not even think for a moment about renting here at La Serena unless you are hard of hearing or completely deaf and constant noise doesn't bother you. It's not the people who rent that are noisy, it's the maintenance. There is CONSTANT noise from leaf blowers, stump grinders, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, leaf blowers from the condos next door you get the point. When I first started renting in July of 2013 there was ONE day where they did landscaping and the grounds looked and STAYED beautiful until the next week. Now, it's EVERYDAY! I've even witnessed leaf blowing IN THE RAIN!!!! I've called and was told that it's necessary. It really is not. This is on top of the 'usual' noise one could expect from apartment living for example, garbage trucks, screaming children, parties, loud cars, motorcycles all of which occur here at La Serena-everyday. The noise is so incessant that I've decided to move. They claim serenity (Serena) as an attractor to their complex and put it on their webpage as offering SERENITY but it's misleading and I would go as far as saying it's a lie. They do not support their own claims to serenity nor are they interested in hearing feedback about their obnoxious living standards. Other points to consider: -Old appliances which, when they break down get swapped from another vacant unit and not replaced new. Of course the swapped ones are aging and don't last long and are swapped yet again when they break down a few months later. I've had every appliance except for the dishwasher replaced which is on it's last leg. -Burn marks on the kitchen floor from prior tenant ,which I lived with because I wasn't in the mood to live with the glue fumes that are involved with linoleum replacement. They offered to replace at the time but also are the ones who discouraged me and told me about the fumes and said 'You really don't want to do that. It takes a day and you can't use the kitchen until it dries, not to mention the strong fumes from the glue'. In my mind, it should have been replaced prior to me moving in. They are supposed to do final inspections and take care of things like that from tenant to tenant. -Both toilets 'run'. Both have had some sort of replacement three different times and the issue is still not fixed. -Air and heat are not balanced. One side of the apartment gets colder/hotter than the other. -Thin windows -No ability to cross ventilate -There is a lot of light projected from the street lamps and the blinds are inefficient. -Doors, including the entry doors to ALL units, slam instead of shut. -Have had to call maintenance for leaking faucets, master shower, and kitchen sink. -Not all outlets work and maintenance requests have been ignored. -The back pool and hot tub are closed during the winter months even though they claim it is year round and way over over-chlorinated. -Cock roach issue in the women's locker room where the gym and sauna are. -VERY hard water! -Minimal gym equipment -Flooding during Monsoon season -Poor window cleaning -Do not accept mail packages. I've had them do so but, with an attitude. -Everyone's mailbox gets stuffed with advertisements and there is NOTHING that can be done. They do 'offer' garbage cans for recycling though. -Not enough lighting in living room area -Speed bumps in the parking lot about every twenty feet. Ok. that's for safety (so I'm told) but it's annoying to go in and out everyday over that many speed bumps. -Frequent garbage smell from dumpsters -No wifi in pool areas -Broken pool furniture in the back pool. If it's 'really broken' it gets thrown away and not replaced. -Do not offer online payment -Be sure to document everything especially the lease material because you WILL need it for when they make up stories and try to make you responsible for things that aren't your responsibility. Get receipts and make sure they are stamped with the date and form of payment. They WILL make a mistake. -The management and maintenance has fully turned over 3 times since I've moved in July of 2013. Good Points: -The people who rent here are respectful to each other Last but not least, I wish I could take the 110 feral cats with me because I love animals and feel sorry that La Serena is ill equipped to call the humane society or other appropriate agency to find a home or them. Take these points into consideration when checking out La Serena. Do not give credence to anything above one star from other reviews anywhere! I wrote this review not out of anger (maybe some frustration) but as a warning to your peace and comfort. I can confidently say that you are wise to search elsewhere. There are places which are much more aesthetically pleasing and offer better prices. This is NOT a luxury apartment complex by any means. La Serena is yet another company that is concerned about lining their wallets and I SWEAR they have a financial interest in the leaf blowing industry. Good ridden La Serena! read more
