Montepulciano is one of my husbands and my favorite places on earth. We have been traveling here…read moreover the years and have never had a disappointing stay. We have made friends and lasting memories. This stay was just spectacular and the exact kind of pampering and luxurious experience we were hoping for. We decided, this time, to stay at the Palazzo Carletti. The Palazzo Carletti is a gorgeous piece of historical elegance. We knew a little bit about the history of this building. For example, it was the communist headquarters during World War II. Interesting right? During that time many of the magnificent ceiling frescoes had been enclosed to conserve energy/heat. When the new owner broke through the ceiling barrier to expose these great frescoes, I can only imagine his excitement. The Palazzo Carletti is a boutique hotel nestled right up from the wonderful Cafe Polizziano, right in the heart of the highest mountain town in Tuscany, Montepulciano . This special hotel has only 5 rooms that are accessed off of the grand room that drips in history and beautiful frescos. The family that owns this gem are exemplary hosts and we felt like the most special people on earth during our stay. The concierge was just lovely. She was so elegant and composed in her position and ensured our stay here was a perfect 10. The breakfasts that are served in the grand room each morning were fantastic. We had the great fortune of staying in the Albany Suite and it was amazing. Ceiling frescoes, luxurious bedding, super modern bathroom, to die for, and a perfect Tuscan view from our balcony where we drank our cappuccino each morning...... The Dolce Vita!!

It is an extraordinary retreat where history, landscape, and luxury come together in a way that feels almost cinematic. Castello is atop a hill in the Tuscan countryside, the property occupies a restored 10th‑century castle within a large 4,200‑acre estate of vineyards, olive groves, forests, and fields. From the moment you arrive via a winding, cypress-lined road, it feels as though you've stepped into another era (as if driving through a forest). The setting alone is breathtaking, with sweeping views of rolling hills that stretch as far as the eye can see. The atmosphere is one of timeless, laid-back elegance. Despite its large scale, the estate feels peaceful and secluded, offering a true escape from daily life. The historic architecture such as stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and rustic details has been meticulously preserved, while contemporary design elements ensure comfort never feels compromised. One of the hotel's strongest aspects is how seamlessly it integrates with its surroundings. The estate is actively lived in, with agriculture, local production, and outdoor experiences shaping the guest experience. Dining at Tosca ristorante at Castello di Casole was a highpoint. The restaurant highlights traditional Tuscan cuisine, using ingredients grown directly on the estate...olive oil, wine, and seasonal produce. The food was exceptional, with a focus on authenticity and quality. We sampled items like baby squid, bread and oil, tortelli, and seabed amberjack. Service was one of the defining features of the hotel. Our servers were attentive, professional, and personable Memorable meal... Castello di Casole d'Elsa is a nice anniversary splurge that captures the essence of Tuscany in both style and substance. With its extraordinary setting, refined design, and outstanding service, it offers a deeply memorable visit that feels authentic. An immersive Tuscan escape...ideal for travelers seeking tranquility and a truly elevated countryside experience.

Even our driver Marian, our driver for two days, was unbelievable. All of the places he suggested to us were perfect for our group. He was on time and went above and beyond in every way. There were three of us staying together and we got very comfortably into a room with a double bed and sofa bed. I stayed in November so it was quite quiet which has it's own benefits, but I can only imagine how gorgeous it is over the summer with their beautiful pools and gardens. This is a spread out, commune-wide hotel concept with properties that span along the two main drags in town. I enjoyed my stay at the core hotel, with easy, free parking right nearby. You walk a gorgeous stroll to breakfast each morning along a flowery corridor over to the Antico restaurant. The included breakfast is by far the best hotel breakfast I've encountered, with breads, a few different menu options, fresh juices, full coffee bar, and loving staff. I enjoyed journaling and eating both mornings of my stay and also appreciated how beautifully decorated the space is. My room was great, though up three flights of stairs (not uncommon for any stay in Italia). A very comfortable bed and welcoming front desk staff that helped me book a massage appointment, discover the best and open parts of town, and also hooked me up with a complimentary beverage upon arrival in the hotel's living room space. What could be better? While I was travelling and staying here solo, this is truly a couple's paradise. They have a dedicated couples spa area and packages set up, gorgeous wines available at the bar and restaurants, and romantic gardens to stroll all through town. Hospitality at it's finest and if I ever need a home base while I am in Tuscany (if you're looking to explore the wine regions of Montelcino/ Montepulciano or the hot spring regions of Bagno Vignoni / Saturnia - this is the spot for you) this is where I'll stay. Note: not accessible without a rental car. I looked up 100 different ways to avoid driving and, while in Tuscany, you simply need a car. I took a bus from Florence to Grosseto and rented my car there so to avoid having to drive in any city centers - a great plan that served me well. It's then an hour drive into San Quirico d'Orcia. Happy exploring!
