The Beauty Shed - Nikki's home made millionaire shortcake tower (tastes better than it looks too!)

This is the perfect place to bring a small group of friends for a get together, birthday…read morecelebrations or pre-wedding pamper sesh. The Beauty Shed is a quaint little haven tucked away in Hove offering an array of relaxing spa treatments. I was invited along as a beauty blogger and was very lucky enough to be pampered for free, but this is an honest review. From the rustic charm of the décor, the smell of Green & Spring candles burning all throughout the rooms, to the handmade, delicious snacks and lunches on offer after your treatment, everything about this place makes having your nails done a relaxing, special experience. Nikki, the owner of The Beauty Shed, welcomed us through the door with big smiles and champagne smoothies, along with her partners in crime - Bex, Sophie & Georgie, all beauticians and event helpers. We were all offered a treatment of our choice to kick off the bloggers pampering party. Tricky choice! I went for an OPI mini-manicure, (my first ever, would you believe!) and it was such a special treat. I'm hooked on manicures now, and haven't stopped moisturising my hands since I've come home. There was a plethora of gorgeous colour to choose from, whatever your style or look. I went for a popping blood-orange colour and couldn't take my eye's off my hands as soon as Sophie started applying it. All manicuring aside, we were ushered down to the onsite café for some home made food. This tower of treats was freshly baked by Nikki herself, and that millionaire shortbread stole the show for me. I had a bowl of the tastiest, healthiest, chilli con carne washed down with my fave - camomile & lavender tea. We finished the evening admiring our nails and chatting all things blog-related before being given a jam packed goodie bag full of treats that will no doubt be featured on the blog soon. All round wonderful night, with wonderful company. I'll 100% be back for more. Anyone fancy coming with ;)?

Three cheers and a massive eyelash flutter to the dearest of dears: Katie M. Without you Madame, my…read morelashes would be so...pedestrian. After reading Katie's review I quickly made an appointment with Kym (easily done via email, and then she followed up with me by phone). I appeared for my scheduled lash installation time promptly and was quickly assessed and put on the table. This is a one-table operation so things are quite calm... Some important factoids: *cash only. *come with clean lashes. *on Brick Lane, through black metal gates, first door on left, up to third floor. *try not to fidget. *no walk-ins, book in as early as possible. ...and voila, beautiful full lashes that have staying power. Good bye to mascara flakes forever, I'm a lashaddict. Will definitely be back.

To review or not review? Do I want the rest of the world to know about this amazing beauty secret?…read more Not really. But...if this review gets one of the many women who I frequently see on the tube sporting TOWIE-esque eyelashes to visit Lash Lab and get their lashes done by a pro...well, I know that I've done my part in making this world a better place. When a coworker (with completely natural looking yet amazing lashes) admitted that she gets her lashes "done" by Kym at Lash Lab, I knew I had to check it out. I've visited Kym three times and never been disappointed. She will review the shape of your face and eyes as well as your natural lash coverage to ensure that you leave Lash Lab looking completely natural. The 60-90 minute application is painless (in fact, I usually sleep through 75%) and I leave Brick Lane feeling like a movie star. The lashes typically last for 4-6 weeks and cost me £85 (certainly worth every £). My husband doesn't notice when I chop 5 inches off my hair, when I dye from blonde to brown or when I'm sporting a hot new outfit. However, he does notice my lashes by Kym. Shhh, don't tell his buddies, but when my lashes are newly done, my hubby actually comments about how hot they are (and notices when they've all fallen out and nicely encourages me to visit Kym again). Ladies, go see Kym. You'll feel amazing with her lashes on...but, I beg you, please don't fill Kym's calendar. Like NHS, I typically have to make an appointment a week or so in advance and the thought of planning 3 weeks in advance due to Kym's popularity would be rough!

Not the greatest but no the worse…read more This place is tucked below a hairdressers and they don;t seem to work together which doesn't come across very professional. Massive regrets with my decision to get a lash lift and tint…read more I went in for a patch test, I had never had any eyelash treatment before, in earnest I asked "what could go wrong?" and the girl shook her head and said "nothing".. I think we all know there can be risks, so it would've been helpful to have this explained. I briefly spoke with a different lady who was going to do my treatment 3 days later and she did not ask any questions or take a look at the lashes (I.e consultation). She also was very persistent that I try a new product, I said several times I'd rather stick with the one that was tried and tested over time, especially as I'd never had anything done before. It actually felt uncomfortable that she kept insisting. I should have walked away then. I got patch tested for both, no problems. The day of the appointment she again insisted that I try the new product, despite me saying that I couldn't find much online in terms of reviews of the new one and wanting to stick with the existing one etc, then she tried to "blind me with science" as to why the new product was the one to use. I showed her some photos of where the new product had been used (taken from social media) and said I wasn't impressed. She said neither was she but it's to do with the technician and hers would not look like that. Again, I felt very pressured, she told me she had used it 4 or 5 times and was going to be teaching the trainers (hence why she needed to get her numbers up). I relented in the end. In discussing how I wanted it to look I said that I had seen some generic reviews online where they had curled too much back into a "C", and that I did not want this but to achieve a dramatic a look as possible without it going that far. I asked her for her opinion and said I don't really know what's best, but to do what she thinks would look the best. Procedure itself- this was really uncomfortable and it felt very rough. I did ask "is it supposed to sting?" and said my right eye was particularly bad, and she blamed me for scrunching eyes up (which I had not) and she then wiped it (which felt like eye was being sliced). It felt like she was pulling and tugging at my eye lashes quite hard, but I was not sure if that was normal or not. She asked if it felt better after wiping and I said um not really. Afterwards with the final look, I thought they looked a bit over curled, she said that next time she would do less lift, and she also said it was good they used the new product as the old one may have been too strong, and I have very fine lashes (good observation to make post treatment)!! I asked her if she was happy and she said she was. As quite a non-assertive person I said they were nice. As I was about to leave she wiped some dermologica nourishing serum over my eye and then instructed me to do it as well, the lashes on the inner left eye were clumped together and bending back. I said they were clumped and she said "oh remember, that was from where your eye was watering wasn't it" (it was the right eye that had been stinging, but ok). I left the place, thinking I could perhaps comb them through and separate, I just wanted to get out of there! All evening my eyes have been stinging especially the right one, I took an anti-histamine to see if it would help. Now on the morning after both eye lids are swollen, but especially the right one. The lashes look teeny tiny and have shrunk to less than they were before treatment. The inner lashes which are the most delicate are absolutely ruined. I'm very concerned the product was not removed properly. Unfortunately they are closed for 2 days now for bank holiday so I cannot speak to them about this. Overall, I'm absolutely gutted. I highly regret getting it done. Always follow your gut instincts, I wish I had.
