La Taqueria is a small, neat and clean Mexican/Guatemalan place off route 206. They've a good menu with most of the usual suspects on it, and they're located next to a small market where you can pick up a bag Cacahuates Japoneses to enjoy on the drive home. Service is friendly and efficient. Orders are made at the counter, or, dare you dare, via QR codes located at the table. Parking is limited, and because it's located between two one-way streets, it can be tricky coming in to or leaving. The Sopes at La Taqueria are a must to try. They're heavily ladened with tasty toppings, and I'd order them again in a heartbeat. The chorizo sope was especially good, and had enough chorizo on it to make two Sopes. Be forewarned that you will not have clean hands after eating them. On another visit I tried the fish tacos. Fish tacos at La Taqueria are the chopped/shredded variety rather than the deep fried filet version. The tortillas themselves were heated well, but were nothing special, nor was the flavor of the fish itself anything remarkable. I expected something more interesting from the place. On the flip side, I also tried a Taco de Tripa, asking for it to be cooked crisp (Tripa in Mexico is pork chitterling, not tripe) and it was very, very (feel free to insert more verys) good, and is definitely a taco I'll try again and again. During our most recent visit, we had the Enchiladas de Pollo en Mole, which brought four enchiladas in a deeply flavored mole with rice and beans. The mole was not sweet like so many other moles in other area restaurants, but was instead relying heavily on the flavors of the chiles. It was very tasty, and a nice change from the usual sweet moles. We also had an excellent Huarache de Lengua, a thick, oval tortilla ladened with beef tongue. I have a feeling my wife will be ordering it each time we return. In addition, we ordered a bowl of the Sopa de Panza y Pata, a soup with a spicy broth and loaded with cow's hooves and tripe. It was a meal in itself, and was also served with rice on the side along with some thick corn gorditas. I was torn between four and five stars here, and if the fish tacos hadn't been such a bust, they'd probably have gotten that fifth star. La Taqueria is definitely in the top tier of local Mexican/Guatemalan restaurants, and will be part of our regular rotation going forward. read more

Really delicious Mexican food, we got fajitas, guac, chips and salsa and queso. The shrimp and steak were really tasty, steak was soft, shrimp was not overcooked. Tortillas seemed to be homemade and thick, loved everything! Visiting the area for work so won't be back here but I am glad we stopped by and got to eat here. This restaurant is small cute and run by a few people... everything is freshly made to order. There is only a few parking spots shared with a mini market next door but they are popular for take out and are on Uber eats. Service was good and fast... I ordered the quesadilla birria which was amazing I would order this every time. The chilaquiles were also very tasty with a good amount of heat, I ordered the green salsa and chicken on top if I had to change something it would be the way the chicken was prepared shredded would be more enjoyable to eat. At the table sopes were ordered, I was not a fan of these they lacked flavor. The kids chicken tender and fries were pretty basic out of freezer. The guacamole was a favorite at the table. I had a great first visit here a few days ago. I was hungry when I ordered and selected chicken tacos, empanadas and the pork and cheese pupusas. There's a small lot in front but you may have to find alternative parking if they are busy, as they were this weekend afternoon. The inside seating is current and eat in would be a good option, weather allowing the outside area is a better choice though. There are some desserts that looked interesting in the case that might be explored on further visits. Even with several people in front of me placing orders, I only had about a 5 minute wait before I was handed my to go bag. The young man working the counter alone should be commended for being so prompt, he was even answering phone in orders as he handed back change. When I unpacked my haul I was very happy indeed. The empanada came already dressed with lettuce cheese and crema. The last several places I've been just give you plain empanadas. Since it was served this way I didn't want to save for another meal. I added my own tomato and loved every bite. These are corn based shells filled with chunks of pulled chicken smothered in a red paste. Not spicy at all, just a smoky pepper taste. My favorite of all recent specimens. I reheated the tacos for dinner, they were all overflowing with chunks of grilled chicken and just cilantro and onion. The green sauce is very good with a little kick, the brown sauce was another smoky pepper flavored thing, very good. The pups came the next day and stood up well. Thinner than El Salvador type examples, but tasty and crisp. I dressed this up with a pico de Gallo and Cotija cheese. Plus the curtido and red pepper sauce provided, I was very happy with this houses version. I was craving tacos and plantains and I discovered this place while browsing through yelp. I'm so happy that I did because this place is amazing. I got the tripe tacos, grilled steak, side of plantains, chorizo tacos, and asada nacho that has beef, lettuce, cheese, chip, and beans. The steak was very dry and I wasn't a big fan of it. I did enjoy the rice and beans that came with the steak. The rest of the food was delicious. I enjoyed the plantains a lot, the tacos were spectacular, and the nacho was cheesy and filled with flavor. I would come back to this place again. Their pupusas are to DIE for. I got the pupusas with chicharron (pork rinds) and cheese to go. 3 hefty pupusas came out ultra hot, crispy and delicious. They were served with a side of deliciously tangy carrot salad. It was more than I could finish in one sitting (but don't worry, they reheated beautifully the next day). Their tacos are the good-good Mexican street tacos with radishes, cebolla and cilantro. Not much else to say besides, good tacos can make your day and these tacos are great. I will be getting some tacos de lengua next time for sure. To address some of the negative reviews here, look, La Taqueria isn't fancy. It isn't meant to be. And I know this is going to ruffle some feathers but I'm gonna say it: small family-run restaurants aren't designed to handle your "I-know-it's-not-on-the-menu-but" order like a Starbucks is. It's totally fine to ask but understand that the answer might be "sorry, we can't do that". At a restaurant where almost everything on the menu is under $11, don't come expecting the same service you get at a place that charges $22 per entree. For $5 you can get a large overstuffed tortilla, full of your choice of meat, rice, beans, lettuce; topped with crema and pico de gallo. I chose the chicken burrito, which arrived at my table a few minutes later, transected and ready to eat. It was so overloaded that I could only finish half, and took the rest home. It was very good. All fresh ingredients and just grilled chicken breast cut into small pieces. The rice was the dominant element, and luckily it was also soft and tasty. The homemade tamarindo juice was cool and refreshing, with a mild sweetness followed by a pleasant sour afternote. No sugar added. It has medicinal qualities, primarily anti-inflammatory, immunity booster, and digestive aide, with secondary antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. Even helps with lowering bad cholesterol. So, it is good tasting and good for you. So much healthier than soft drinks found everywhere that add sugar, artificial sweeteners, and caffeine. This place is small and cute, the staff is super nice and helpful, and the food is just so fresh and spectacular.
