How can you come to Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower? Before getting to Europe, my friends and I had purchased our tickets online. You might as well get the 12.5 Euro (youth for up to 26yrs of age) ticket that takes you all the way to the top because you can always come down to the middle point. You skip a long line, but when you take an elevator to the top, there is another long line, but it's totally worth it. The view is breathtaking and simply amazing. I can see why so many people propose there. There is a champagne bar at the very top. It's cliche, but if you're that kind of girl, you'll remember it forever! We were able to enjoy the day and the night. Around 8pm, the Eiffel starts twinkling every hour, and it's really amazing at sunset. You have to walk further away to get the full image. I can't help but love the Eiffel Tower, it's just such a magical site. I've been lucky and have had pretty good luck with the lines never waiting more than 45 minutes, and one time on a weeknight in April I was lucky enough to be able to walk right up to the counter without waiting in line. If you're in a decent amount of shape, take the stairs - it's a long climb, but not too taxing and the stairs are wide if you need to take a break. Each level has it's own unique features so don't just rush to the top and forget to stop and look around the other levels on your way back down. There's lots to see and do here, and if you've waited a while in line, you might as well get the most out of the experience. Beware, it can get windy and cold up at the top so dress in layers! Also, there's a rumor that the tower might be closing in 2014 for refurbishments so see it before then if you have the chance! read more

2013/050 I've been to Paris a handful of times, and visited the Eiffel Tower twice. The first was on a trip back in college; the second time was with my then-boyfriend (now husband). Sadly, both times I've visited, I was stuck in line behind a little boy who didn't cover his mouth when he sneezed. Directly on me. Both times. Both strangers. I must be a magnet for little sick Parisian kids. I spent both times sick directly afterwards. Weird coincidences aside, I do like the Tower. I was amazed when I last visited during a winter that people could ice skate on one of the levels. We opted not to do that. We did enjoy climbing the stairs, since we try to stay in shape. When we walked by the tower later in the week (because SIL works in a school across the way), we were delighted when it blinked and lit up at night. I really enjoyed being here in the winter as there was an ice rink on the 2nd floor!! We did the walk up and it was nice and not too hard, but DON'T wear heels! You know that metal they use for stairs that seems it could be made of a grater? The same stuff here... So if that was your choice of boot, consider the lift. Which is so cute by the way. I love the Eiffel tower. I love sitting on the champ du mars with a champagne picnic on sunny days, I love taking night time strolls around it, I love watching it sparkle from both near and far. I think it's iconic and beautiful. It is paris. I also absolutely love going up it too - the views of paris are breathtakingly beautiful. Despite having gone up the tower three times now, I'm still not bored of it. I know the trick is to buy tickets in advance - they are not THAT expensive and you get to skip the queues - which on nice days can last forever. I've never actually made it up to the third level as you can't buy tickets to the very top in advance, and I've never had the patience to brave the (huge) queues. The views from the second level are beautiful though, honestly - so amazing. I've been up on both clear and rainy days and it's still amazing. I love paris, I think it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, so I'm probably biased, but I challenge anyone to go up here and not be impressed by what they are looking at. The history! The architecture! The beauty! It has it all. Don't forget to visit the first floor if you need to take shelter from the wind and cold up there - you can buy hot or cold drinks (alcoholic or not) and just chill out half way up one of the most iconic structures in the world. How can anyone not like the Eiffel Tower?! It's iconic, it's grand, it's beautiful, it's PARIS! Sure it's a tourist haven, but the views are unbeatable and it's a must do on everyone's bucket list. We tried to make dinner reservations at Restaurant 58 but they just laughed and apologized that they are booked months in advance. Note to self, make reservation with more notice in the future and I advise you all to do the same. If not, shoot over for a glass of Champagne at their Champagne Bar or grab a coffee from their cafe. Also their "tourist shop" has souvenirs for no more than the tourist shops at Champs d'Elysses and you can say you got it here or you can spend much less in Marais, etc. Beautiful at both day and night anytime of the year. I mean, really. It's the Eiffel Tower. If you don't go see it, then you haven't visited Paris. But here are a few tips from me...to you... 1. I personally think the best time to go up the Eiffel Tower is at night. Since Paris is know as the City of Lights, the soaring views from a Tour Eiffel will be one, if not the best, night view of the city you'll ever get. Also, if you do go up at night, go towards the end of your visit...this way you can easily recognize the other sites you've seen during your earlier tourist days. 2. Two other good views pictures moments of La Tour Eiffel is across the street and up the stairs towards the Trocadero Gardens. You'll know what I'm talking about almost everyone goes here to take pics of the Eiffel Tower. Do yourself a favor and just walk. It's really a shorter walk than it appears. The other good spot, is in the exact opposite direction across Champ de Mars, towards the Peace Memorial. In the right light, you can capture a great view of the Peace Memorial with the Eiffel Tower in the background. Lovely. 3. If you are absolutely in a rush and don't mind a workout...take the stairs. The line is a lot shorter. Just make sure you are standing in the right line. 4. One of the easiest spots to take a pic of the Eiffel Tower and yourself is actually across the street...since the Eiffel Tower is so huge and all. And one last tip...whether you go up during the day or night, it's pretty darn windy up there. If at night, it can get pretty cold too. read more

A must-see for any tourist who cares about art, architecture, history, France, or a number of other things. I don't know what it is, but La Tour Eiffel is just so cool and beautiful. I was surprised that I had never heard of the flashing lights installed all over it. I mean, I knew it lit up at night, but the sparkling of the little white lights all over it made it look like it was twinkling full of stars. It's so simple, yet so captivating. (It happens on the hour for 10 minutes, by the way.) I say skip the longest lines and cut straight for the ones that allow you to walk up. Why take an elevator when you can soak it all in step by step and take pictures along the way? I enjoyed my climb and didn't feel like it was challenging at all. I didn't see a single person stopped and out of breath, so it's really not difficult! Also, they have info-posters posted up so you can read more about the history and some of the stories surrounding the Tower. At the top level, it's kind of cool how they laid out the direction and distance of each country, so you can walk around and find that Los Angeles is 9,105 km thaaat-a-way. read more

Yes this is worth all the trouble you will have to put up with to get on top of this landmark of France. There will be long lines, crying babies, scam artists, and a plethora of everything that one hates at amusement parks and county fairs. But one's trip to the city of lights would be of naught, if one doesn't grace their presence on this symbol of France. there is a handy elevator so one mustn't climb to the top, but the line is slow. bring a book, music, or whatever else to pass the time. People say the Eiffel Tower is much prettier at night but I didn't get the pleasure of seeing it for myself. I went during the day and was excited enough as is. It's the Eiffel! Standing beneath the tower looking at its legs.. its like a dream. Since we were there, we figured it will probably be some time before we visit again so the touristy thing to do would be to get in line and get tickets to go up the tower! You get to choose between two different kinds of tickets.. 1) to go up about a third of the way of the tower or 2) go up enough further of the tower. We got the later option, come on, you're in Paris you might as well you know. It was so windy up there, taking a decent picture was nearly impossible. Every picture in my camera had crazy hair all over my face -_- Lucky us just when we were done and ready to head back down, we were informed that the elevator broke and we need to exit through the stairs. What?? I wasn't about to walk down an outdoor staircase in that wind and height? I opted to wait for it to get fixed :P While waiting, I got a TINY cup of hot chocolate from the cafe for 4 euros.. most expensive instant hot chocolate in my life but its "Eiffel Tower hot cocoa"! :D lol. read more

Of course very nice. Tip - there are multiple lines to buy tickets. If you are in reasonably good shape, don't take the elevator and instead stand in the much shorter line to buy tickets to walk your way up to the first and second levels (if you want to go all the way up you'll need to buy another ticket on the second level to take the elevator to the very top). I didn't think it was very difficult to walk up and it was also kind of fun. There are two upscale restaurants onsite - one on the first observation deck and another on the second deck. I think that if you want to dine at the restaurants you need to make reservations several months in advance. Absolutely amazing! For some reason I didn't know the tower was brown... The only thing that bothered me was how long it took the ticket windows to open AFTER they were scheduled to open. It was freezing so every minute counted. Once the windows opened the lines went by fairly quick. But there is no order once you get through the door and through security. There are plenty of other reviews of the Eiffel tower, so I won't go into great detail. However, this is the quintessential Parisian tourist site. We went to the top via the elevator on something of a rainy day, which wasn't optimal, but it is still amazing. It's even more amazing when you think about how much of a feat it is was at the time. Plus, it's really fun to walk around and check it out from the outside. It's beautiful from the other side of the river up on the steps. There is also a great view from Arc de Triomphe as well as a few department stores. I'm sure the French probably don't want to admit it, but the Eiffel tower is what makes Paris. An absolute must-see if you are in Paris. Even having a picnic in the Champs de Mars is a nice way to spend a sunny afternoon. I have been twice, and have learned a few things from my visits: - Plan ahead! I did not...on either visit...and thought I could buy tickets online at any time. Wrong. Tickets are for timed entry and were sold out weeks in advance. - Try to go in the morning to avoid the crowds. - If getting to the summit is not a big deal to you, you can walk the stairs to the 1st and 2nd levels, and either walk or take the elevator back down. These lines are shorter - I think we were in line for about 15 minutes and it moved quickly - this was on a Saturday at 10am. The tower opens at 9:30am, and I wish we'd gotten there earlier. And the stairs route will only set you back by 5€ - not bad for a Paris tour attraction! All in all, it is worth a bit of a wait and a hike to see it up close! Great place for photo ops. I came to Paris solo in the summer of 2012 on a whim, and was able to find a hotel within a ten minute walk from the Eiffel Tower that didn't break the bank. You can go up into the tower or you can appreciate the tower from the parks/gardens nearby. While I was there the wait time to go up into the tower was 3 hours long. I decided against it and just admired the structure from below. At night the tower is lit up and is nice to enjoy if you have the time. However, if you are a female traveling alone (as I was), I would be wary of the men there at night. I wouldn't consider this area "dangerous," but I would advise females traveling alone here at night to be careful. Long story short, I had one man try to follow me back to my hotel and I ended up having to backhand him before he left me alone. read more

This is such a monument of a landmark. Standing tall and strong is the Eiffel Tower! On a nice day, a Parisian picnic is recommended on the grass below to admire the grand tower. You can also climb the tower by lift or staircase which we did. It may be better to prebook tickets online to save waiting. Such a beautiful view - you can go to the middle or all the way to the top. They also sell food, snacks and icecream up there if you need some refreshments. Gives you a view of the whole city. Day time views u make your way past security & inside when u are under the tower looking up its pretty crazy too see this thing is huge. Walking around a bit & to the little park area of course here is where u can take better pics. This time around there was a small market/ shopping area can't say if it is here all the time.. we took some time to look around & ended up making a souvenir purchase. It's not the same as the pictures, it's even better! The sheer size of this monument is mind-blowing. You have to visit the Eiffel Tower twice. Once during the day and the other at night. How can you not go??? You must go up to the top of the Eiffel tower - you will have to pay the most Euro for this, but it is totally worth it. Even if it is a cloudy day, you can say that you have been atop the Eiffel tower. Expect to wait in a long line (30min to 1.5 hours on a busy day - probably more if you ask me!) to get to the elevators, but as soon as you get up, you can stay as long as you want - and THERE ARE bathrooms up there (although I believe they are only on the middle floor). Anyway - could be wrong on the floors as I haven't been to the tower since '09 and haven't been up since '07. Either way - go. You can pee on the tower and say, "I peed on the Eiffel Tower!" "YOU WHAT?" I like to buy my souvenirs while IN the actual building - so if you want to buy something from some random ass vendor wandering around, by all means, go for it. I just like the nostalgia of the experience - knowing I bought a 8" tall Eiffel Tower IN the Eiffel Tower. If you want, you can buy postcards and stamps on the tower, and if mailed there, they postmark it with a special Eiffel Tower postmark. Pretty cool! Similar to Taipei 101 in... TAIPEI. Oh and you MUST see the tower at night! Every hour on the hour, up until I believe 1 or 2am, they do a super epileptic-seizure-inducing light show that is breathtaking. The world's nicest post office is located in the bottom of the south pillar. I'm thinking not many people knows this place is there and that's why the guy was sooooo sweet and helpful but here you can buy stamps, mail all kinds of packages and letters and get all of them stamped with the Eiffel Tower mail seal. For visiting the top of the tower, buy your tickets in advance to avoid 1.5+ hour waits in line!! This place gets crazy busy. Buy your tickets online but note, they will only mail them, no printing at home so do it far enough in advance that you can receive the tickets before your trip. read more

This provides a great view of Paris. It's a fun experience and almost had to be done twice...once at night and once during the day. If I had to chose only one I would go during the day. You have to get a bit away from the Tower itself if you want a picture of yourself in front of it but there are some lovely gardens off to the side where you won't be harassed by people selling junk and can sit and have a picnic. If its your first trip to Paris, you must visit the Eiffel Tower. My group went up straight to the 2nd lvl and we took all our pictures before heading back down. I would highly recommend that you find a tour group that skips the first line or you'll spend 3-5hrs waiting to go up. Kinda a cheat i would say. There is no cheats to the 3rd lvl. You must wait in another line when you get to the 2nd level. You do have an option to take the stairs but its hot! The views were remarkable. If you have a dslr, bring one. (review of Eiffel Tower on Bastille Day) Ah. I can't even begin to describe how awesome this experience was for me! I've been studying French since I was 14 years old! I'm now 24 and recently went to France for the first time in my life. I was studying in Montpellier but took a trip up to Paris with some friends during the weekend of Bastille Day. As a result, Paris was so busy and there were so many people! When we went to go up the Eiffel Tower, there was the longest line ever!! It seriously took us TWO hours! But it was worth it!! Unfortunately, there was construction going on all the way up on the top and couldn't view the world from the sky. There were of course tons of people out on the grass as well. I hate standing out as a tourist and think sometimes those tourist pictures and poses look so lame. But don't worry, once you get to the Eiffel tower, you'll see that EVERYONE is doing it so make sure to join in on the fun and get that awesome shot you've always wanted! There are also tons of guys walking around and selling souvenirs but there are also tons of them on the seine bridges. Those are usually cheaper than the souvenirs at the stores and booths. Oh, and one last thing. If you're there for Bastille Day and want to see the Eiffel Tower at night, make sure you get there EARLY! They had an all day free concert at the park but I didn't get to check it out. I got there seriously thirty minutes before the fireworks started and had the hardest time finding a good spot. In the end, although it was the Eiffel Tower, the fire works weren't very impressive. They also played English music during the show which was odd considering that it was a French holiday. Take the stairs from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor. It's vertigo-inducing. But, you get to really appreciate the true beauty of the latticework and architecture involved. Stare down 600 feet below to the ground and it'll throw you for a loop. I was hoping I might see some guy propose to his girlfriend on the tower that evening. Fortunately, it turns out that there are people willing to think outside the box and come up with something more original than lame proposing on the Eiffel Tower or god forbid, on a gondola in Venice. If you're undecided about whether to go up to the top or not, I would say that it isn't worth the hassle. Yes, the view is amazing but really the top reason for going up the Eiffel Tower is to say that you've been there, right? I do understand though if it's your first time to Paris and you've dreamed about going up the Eiffel Tower all your life and you just simply have to do it. So, if that's the case, here is the most hassle-free way to do it: 1. Buy your tickets online ahead of time (from the official website). You need to do this pretty far in advance (think months to several weeks). If the day you want isn't available, keep trying. A slot for the day we wanted opened up just a few weeks before we left. 2. Book your time at opening so that you are among the first ones up. 3. Arrive at least half an hour before the Tower actually opens (there is a line for prepurchased ticket holders). 4. Bring minimal bags/belongings and be ready to pass through airport-type security. 5. Take care of toilet needs beforehand. There is a free sidewalk toilet on the Quai Branley road between the Champ de Mars - Tour Eiffel RER stop and the Tower itself. 6. If you made it this far, enjoy being in one of the first groups to the top. You go to the very top level first, then make your way down each level after that. It gets crowded fast, so enjoy whatever "quiet" time you have up there. You're out on an open-air balcony with an indoor viewing platform underneath (that isn't great because the "glass" that you're looking through is crap). **There is no place to sit.** Once it gets crowded, it's time to go unless you like being shoved around in a mob. Be ready to wait for the elevator to get back down. The toilet situation is limited and, of course, there is a line. It can be done with minimal headache but planning and preparation are key. Otherwise, the best view is of the Tower, not from the Tower! Regarding the beggars, salespeople, etc.: Be firm. Show them with your demeanor that you aren't taking any crap from anyone. Don't make eye contact and if necessary, an assertive "No!" will usually get them to move on. Regarding pickpockets: We take a single backpack around with us and we keep the two main pockets locked with little luggage locks. The keys are accessible on another zipper, so it's easy enough for us to get into the pack when we need something, but too much of a pain for a pickpocket to want to deal with. read more

I would give 5 stars for just seeing the Eiffel Tower from afar, lit up prettily at night and sparkling every hour on the hour for 10 minutes after dark. I would, however, give 3 stars to going on top. I'm not sure if this is because we had a jam packed day on our first day/night in Paris and did the Eiffel as the last activity of the night and was too tired to really enjoy it, if it was because it was a freezing night in mid November, or if it was because the views really weren't that worthwhile. I say it was all of the factors above, but still can't help but think the views weren't that spectacular from atop the Eiffel. To preface, we had just gone on top of the Arc de Triomphe prior to the Eiffel Tower, and with that having been an amazing experience, maybe that's also what contributed to the paling of going on top of the Eiffel where the views didn't seem as picturesque. The experience also did not feel romantic at all in my opinion, despite the glamour in movies you see about couples on top of the Eiffel Tower. Maybe this had to do in part with the crowds of people going up in the elevator (even in mid November), that really felt more like we were cattle being herded towards our end destination. Either way, unless going on top of the Eiffel Tower is an absolute must for you due to being in Paris, I would skip going on top of it, altogether, and just admire it from afar. We debated prior to our trip whether going on top of the Eiffel was an absolute must or not, but figured we should do it since it was our first trip to Paris. Honestly though, our trip wouldn't have missed a beat if we hadn't gone to the top. Instead, we recommend watching the sparkling lights from on top of the Arc de Triomphe, or for a closer view, from Jardins du Trocadero, which made for the perfect distance to view the Eiffel Tower. Within the Jardins du Trocadero vicinity, there was also a perfect ledge at the top of a set of stairs that you could sit upon for a photograph opportunity with the Eiffel Tower as the majestic backdrop. We were lucky enough to see it sparkle on the hour here for 10 minutes and it was absolutely stunning. It was also much more wonderful and romantic just seeing the Eiffel from afar, and much more magical that way (not to mention free). In short: 5 stars for the Eiffel Tower in general. 3 stars for going on top of the Eiffel Tower. read more

We get off the Concorde metro station and wander the 7th arrondissement area that is known be one of the wealthiest area to live in Paris. A stroll down Rue de Grenelle allows us to see aristocratic townhouses, each building with its own cast iron design outside the windows. At certain points along the way, the Eiffel Tower peeks out from behind townhouses and buildings in the area creating a wonderful backdrop. We gradually make our way towards the most photographed and romanticized Parisian landmark. The most popular spot to view the Eiffel Tower is from Champ de Mars- a large and long garden directly in front of the tower. The garden is the perfect spot for a picnic or just to spend a lazy afternoon with full view of the tower. Just because the Eiffel Tower is located in the 7th arrondissement does not necessarily mean that it is the only place that offers a view of the landmark. With different vantage points in the city come various backdrops of the Eiffel Tower. For example, from the 1st arrondissement, the Place de la Concorde offers a view of the Eiffel Tower in the not to distant background. Being in an elevated position helps too and we are lucky to have a tower view room from our hotel in the 1st arrondissement. Getting to the top of the L'Arc de Triomphe, in the 8th arrondissement, also offers a view of the city with the tower in it. read more

If you're into the challenge, you can climb the stairs to level 2 for 5 euros or pay to use the elevator. The higher you go, the more you'll pay. There are long lines for the elevators, so you may have a wait. I decided to book a tour for this one, only because, when traveling with kids, one must find creative ways to minimize walking, waits for tickets, and lines. So we met at a local souvenir shop and the group took off. Upon arrival at the foot of the tower, the only word I could utter was WOW! This, is what I have been waiting for......impressive it is, in every way. We skipped the lines and headed straight to the lifts. Yes, 2 different security screenings, but, it's what we need!!! So, lifts are crowded, more like sardine cans filled to the brim, and personal hygiene for many Euro's, is non existant!! That's where the gross factor comes in, but, the view from the top is unbelievable!!! Everything I though it would be and more. Paris is spectacular and magical!!! Wait until night time, and tower is even more surreal!!! We probably will not go back and tour the tour, I think it's a once in a life time thing for me, maybe twice, but definitely take advantage of the photo ops!!! You won't be sorry!!! read more

With the Eiffel Tower being a 5 minute walk to our flat, we visited it daily! We started each day starting up at its beauty and ended each night under it! I'm still not sure which is more magical so I highly recommend seeing it both in the day and at night. I will warn you though as it was a HUGE shock for us, there are rats everywhere. Yes, rats.... large ones and they aren't shy! We were sitting a block away near a grassy spot where most people were sitting enjoying wine and food and starring up at the Eiffel. We happened to be seated at a bench so we didn't encounter the rats up close and personal until one ran literally right under our bench into the bushes behind us. No one ever mentioned the rats before! Also, the guys selling wine, champagne and cigarettes illegally are very pushy. You just need to say no sternly like 5 times and eventually they will take it for your answer. But go see the Eiffel Tower. It really is a marvel! read more
