A gf asked me yesterday if I like traveling alone. I guess she was expecting a yes with some elaborations so she can concur. But I said no, because I really don't when no one drives for me, hah.. and no one to share dishes that I want to order. But not everyone has the luxury to travel in all the odd timings throughout the year, so I rest my case.
I was the only guest in this rather spacious restaurant in the small border town. Italian operas were played in the background. The first piece when I sat down was Verdi's Rigoletto. Suddenly i thought of someone- this was the first opera we watched together. We were so shy and naive.
The grandpa-like owner came by to take orders. His English was limited as noted by the previous Yelpers, but he made it up by body language and facial expressions. ;) He explained only a few items on the menu were available.
I ordered red grape fondue to start, and spinach lasagna as the main. Red grapes were split open and filled in with cream cheese, and then to be dipped into a small plate of hot cheese fondu in the middle. It was creative and tasted quite interesting. The spinach lasagna was a plethora of cheese and spinach- the cheese was overpowering... I tried very hard and finished nearly half. Grandpa asked me to bag the rest and I obliged for fear of disappointing him and "my lady" as he called his wife. :)
For dessert, as usual, I tried two. Tiramisu was a bit dry and oversweet, then I went for a chocolate mousse- smooth but sweeter than I can bear. The 3rd option was a pear with something something. I loved my waiter's body expressions but could only determine it's probably very sweet.. hah
In all, I enjoyed the way I was treated and amused on a rather chilly night on the first day of July, 2019, in the Argentine winter. read more
