When anyone comes to visit I bring them here. It's a real crowd pleaser, reasonable price and you always know you are going to have a good time. Even though the restaurant is large it's so cosy and there is a lovely atmosphere. The staff are really friendly and lovely. Last night we had Bread and olive oil Bread topped with fresh tomato patatas bravas (I can't go for tapas without them) Chorizo Meat bombs - new on the menu pork and Gorgonzola meatballs - yum Croquettes with Serrano ham - get these!! Prawns in garlic oil - so juicy Calamares - a fav of mine. Nice find in Manchester. I personally love Spanish dishes like tapas. Honestly, Spain has a special place in my heart. After a long day of touring Manchester, came down to city Centre and found this place while we were walking. All the food was fresh and tasty. The various meats were really good and prepared well. Even the butter spread with the bread was so good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The overall ambiance was nice and had the feel of a Spanish bar. Obviously nothing beats Spain but this like corner in Manchester is bringing a bit of Spain to England. read more

Manchester has a huge Spanish dining scene with even multiple places along Deansgate, one of them being La Viña which I tried for the first time during their ongoing 50% off promotion in January when making a booking, strangely there was no advertisement of this offer when actually making the booking, nor was their advertising of it on their website and it was just something outside the store. The reservations system does surely need some work as despite being open, they don't appear to allow reservations between 15:00 and 17:30, forcing me to select between the two, they didn't seem busy so my late arrival, however, wasn't a problem. Upon arrival, I was disappointed to hear the 50% off food just included tapas, which excluded paella, the only other table sitting at the same time as me also didn't realise it excluded drinks and desserts. The staff did seem friendly and understanding regarding my allergies, sadly the potatas bravas and albiognas seemed to contain gluten, which are my favourite tapas dishes made gluten-free at nearby Lunya, I presume this was down to a shared fryer. I opted to order the tortilla (Spanish omelette with onion), lemon and thyme chicken and a chorizo dish. I would say without an offer on food, tapas does appear to be rather pricey, while the pricing is competitive most other Spanish restaurants in the area have promotional offers throughout the year, rather than just in January. I liked how they did this for me with gluten-free bread. They do have authentic Spanish vibes with rather nice decor and Spanish music playing including a changing specials board for food and wine. They do have upstairs seating on some form of balcony too, so if you do make a reservation I would say to specify you want an upstairs/downstairs table which might not be possible to change at busy times. The staff seemed friendly and attentive however they become annoying after I was asked for my name I booked with half a dozen times by the same two servers. Honestly asking once or twice to mark off my reservation and get my 50% off is fine but it just became far too much. My Chorizo dish was definitely my favourite, the chorizo was excellent quality and with a sauce from which I presume was tomato, red wine and onion just made it better and it was probably the best chorizo I've had, it was great quality and seasoned really well. This was served with gluten-free bread, instead of regular bread however I found it to be a little bland and tasteless, even with the sauce. I did find the lemon and thyme chicken to be a little chewy however with hard vegetables, however, it still had great lemon and thyme flavours and it still looked pretty good too. The tortilla unlike other tapas places including Lunya nearby was served hot and I like that, again I found it to have good flavours with the potato and onion and I did mostly enjoy it, but again it was a little dry. I would return to La Viña, although the only dish I would re-order would be the excellent chorizo, it still remains one of the better Spanish restaurants I've tried in Manchester offering great flavours and authenticity and they are doing well to justify it being a slightly more premium option. 3* - Confusing 50% off promotion making it difficult to claim and I would have also liked to see a wider selection of more common tapas made gluten-free especially something as simple as fried potatoes with tomato sauce and aioli. read more

We always love dining at La Vina. The venue has several floors, and it does get very packed on weekends. So making a reservation is a must. All the staff have been very professional and welcoming each time we're there. And the food is really good from the tapas to the mains. read more

The location and atmosphere are great. Waiters were attentive, the food arrived quickly. However, I have to say that food lacked this Spanish authenticity. It was as if cooked by somebody who only heard about Spanish food but never tried it. These were not just my dishes - I have tried my friends's as well. I have been in here quite a few time and I really like it, the place is really nice it's a bit traditional and really cosy some of the tables are barrels which is nice. It's lovely in the evening in the candle light. I have only been once to eat but the food was great Really fresh and tasty and quite reasonable priced. I have been in a few time for drinks too they have great sangria and it's only £15 for a jug great value and it's nice just to sit at the bar. Hey. Let's be serious for a moment. You have a choice of several Spanish restaurants in Manchester, and La Tasca ain't one of them. So if I find you trundling into that microwaveable tapas monstrosity on Deansgate, especially as El Rincon and La Viña are within walking distance of it, I'll hunt you down. I don't know what I'll do once I've hunted you down, probably just give you a severe telling off. La Viña is one of those unusual restaurants that you don't expect to find on such a busy street - it's got a very Lion, Witch and Wardrobe feel about it as stepping into it is like entering another world. It's also got something of the tardis about it too, as it's deceptively huge for a Deansgate building. Candlelight offers a soft and seductive glow, with vines plunging down from balconies and the feeling that you're in the Med as opposed to just minutes away from the city centre. There's a real buzz about this restaurant, every time I've been in the low but lively chatter and the Latin beats on the stereo make it feel very authentic and quintessentially Spanish. As for the food, the tapas is traditional - you know what you're getting and expect to see the likes of chorizo with beans, Spanish potato omelette and the like. There are plenty of veggie options too which should please all parties, and flavour isn't compromised for the lack of meat. But wait. What's this? What - is - this? La Viña is... drumroll please... PART OF the La Tasca group. Hold on, don't start throwing things at me, it's a truly different beast. It's a far more upmarket version of the dull, flavourless chain restaurant, and its slightly pricier menu reflects this, but don't worry. La Viña is still a truly superior option, the food and atmosphere are worth the trip, and with huge group bookings available and its family-friendly nature, you'd be hard pushed to find anything better. With a cosy atmosphere and a warm vibe la vina seems on to something. Vibrant/rustic decor and music set an enjoyable tone and the staff work hard to make sure you have a good experience. Spanish food adorns the menus, tapas can be an expensive affair but anything else is often reasonable and it is all very very good. Monkfish wrapped in Serrano ham is a favourite of mine, but trust me anything you order will please you to no end unless your missing a tongue, even then I'm sure you'd enjoy the aesthetics. Vegetarians and meat eaters alike are spoiled for choice with hearty bean casseroles plumped up with chorizo and salted hams to oyster mushrooms in wine and garlic marinade. I really enjoyed my Saturday night meal out to La Vina. Good atmosphere, and not too long a wait on a table even though it was packed out. I was served up a good white rioja at the bar and it was lovely. The food was fantastic, I was particularly a fan of the croquettes (worth trying the meat and the veggie options), and the salad verte was really good too. I really liked the jamon iberica, my colleagues weren't massively keen on the thick cut style of it. The staff were a little frantic and obviously very busy but they were polite and friendly and made good suggestions. Tip - if you want a table here, try getting there early or late. I visited La Vina recently with a couple of friends. The atmosphere and ambiance here are quite nice, but we experienced several issues. First up, our waiter was extremely inattentive; we had to ask him three different times to bring us water - he never brought it. We then asked another waiter who finally brought our waters. Once our waiter finally found time to take our orders, there were a couple of mixups. When all the food we had ordered was finally delivered, we tasted it and everything was bland, and no better than AOK tasting. On the plus side, the house wine was pretty good, but not so good that I'm going to look past the lackluster service and mediocre food and come back for a revisit. read more

I visited La Vina for the second time yesterday and started to feel a little bit disappointed. Always crowded as ever (I know this because I kinda got refused once as too many people eating there and the waitress told me I have to wait for 50 min to get a seat). Lucky me yesterday I got a table but you can never get a bigger table if you just bring one guest. And trust me, if you order paella for two, the table (for two people obviously) would definitely not be big enough to serve other two more side dishes. So, enough complaining about the able size and the crowd. Let's talk food. In a word the food was not at all it was cracked up to be. The paella was fine. But others were just ordinary. Compared to the taste and price the portion was too small too. But the sangria there was truly (and maybe the only?) a delight. I guess I'm not gonna pay my third visit. read more

I was excited to enjoy some tapas and relax with a glass of wine last night. I was in early (5:15PM) so it was far from busy. Seated quickly but attentiveness right after was slow. Staff were more focused on friend me eating and putting up Xmas decorations. I ordered chorizo , mushrooms in wine and patatas brava. Mushrooms were outstanding! Sausage had a great taste but were tough, if can believe that? Patatas were far underwhelming? Sofrito was not spicy at all and when mentioned I was delivered chilli peppers? No! Had I been offered the dish free with an offer to be wowed with a choice of the waiter (and I would have paid for this one) I would have taken him up on it and purchased another glass of wine. You know the really great thing about Yelp? It stops you wandering into La Tasca and and directs you to La Vina instead. Phew. Because after eating at La Vina I can concur that the Yelp consensus is right- La Vina is superb! Deliciously superb. We were looking for a place to go for a tapas get-together (me and a few friends) and I confidently said- "Don't worry I'll find somewhere- got me some Yelpers who know best". We had the 3-tapas-for- £9.49-deal each, and it was surprisingly adequate. I left there quite stuffed! My choice was the traditional omelette (TORTILLA ESPAÑOLA) Chroizo (CHORIZO A LA SIDRA) cooked in Cider (nice) and some Croquetas De Jamon (like a potaoey ham and cheese thing in bread crumbs..) I'm sorry I'm not able to comment on the wine or other alcoholic beverages as I don't drink but the list was pretty extensive! I love the heavy dark wood rustic atmosphere, the balconies and the attentive waiting staff. We didn't have to wait long for the food, but we were not rushed in any way when we needed twenty minutes before embarking on dessert. I need to go back to try out the rest of the menu, I didn't even get to try any of their main dishes of fish dishes- but I spotted other people's meals going out and they looked top. The staff was very nice. They have been helpful, smiling and advised us some great food to try. However the portions of beef steak tapas were just unacceptable for £8.25. The chorizo in sweet oil portion was cold, that i have not even touched it. We have ordered churros as a desert and just another failure. The dough has been not fried well, so it has been still row in the middle. After 5 portions of tapas, my bill was £45 but in all decency i must say i was same hungry as when I've arrived over here. A very pleasant ambience in this Spanish restaurant which is conveniently located in central Manchester on Deansgate. I was drawn in by an offer advertised outside on an A-frame. 7 tapas to 2 to share plus a glass of wine each for £14.95 each. A pleasant selection of meat fish and veg tapas were ordered from a limited menu but all were delicious. The included glass of wine was very small (125ml) so I did need an additional drink. Service was pleasant and quick, I'll definitely return to try some other items from the menu - I would like to try their paella. My visit was late on a Sunday afternoon and whilst there a musician arrived and started to play a classical guitar. read more

I love La Vina - I tend to head here with my auntie who is gluten free or for a tipple of sangria on the way home from work! The menu is extensive with the added specials menu which changes each time i've been in. Start with a sangria - with options for red or white you really cant go wrong. Add on 30 minutes if you order the paella - I've tried the veggie and seafood one both are tasty! The croquettes are particularly good as a side order - filled with ham and melted béchamel cheese, I would also recommend the meatballs in the tomato sauce and the chicken skewers! All of which are filling and tasty! Do head here for a special occasion as for tapas this is slightly on the pricey side...although on an evening they do have some live music as entertainment and is lit with cute twinkly lights. read more

I've tried many tapas places in Manchester but not this one until now despite the very good reviews I heard from a number of people! service was a bit disapointing at the start as we were seating in the middle of the restaurant but it was like we were invisible as it took a while for the waiters to serve us! however it really improved by the end! i've nothing to say about the food, it was perfect! the selection was great and they had a number of tapas that you cant find anywhere else! I wasnt that happy with the sangria that was too sweet according to me and could have been stronger . there is a good atmosphere inside, it's a nice place to go there with friends but probably not the most appropriate if you want to have a romantic dinner! None of the dishes really stood out for me, although I didn't dislike anything either. I have been here a couple of times now but went again yesterday after spending a couple of hours at the Rioja festival in Albert Sq which got us in the mood for more tapas and Rioja. I love the manchejo cheese here and the monkfish wrapped in serrano ham is fantastic. The staff work very hard and the waitress we had serve us said a 12 hour shift is normal so I really admire how polite and welcoming she was considering how exhausting this must be but that's the catering trade!It was very busy but we still managed to get a seat and be served quite quickly so all in all a great experience again. read more

Anything Spanish always excites me, especially the food and tapas. I was discussing with a friend the other day that tapas is probably designed for people like me who cannot eat huge portions but like to eat a lot of different things. I always have a habit of pecking on others plates in a restaurant if they have ordered something different once I get bored of eating my own. Anyway moving on to the star of the show -- La Vina is a blessing in disguise for all foodies. It is deceivingly big, spread across three floors in the buzzing area of Deansgate in Manchester. You can pretty much always find a table and not have to wait for eons (besides extremely busy days like the week before Christmas or on Valentines day). They have successfully created a very Spanish environment inside with the music, staff and interior decoration. Spanish food as we know is fairly simple to make but I have seen several places who have the capability of screwing that up as well but thankfully La Vina isn't one of them. Whatever we ordered (pork ribs, olives, calamaris, choritzo, garlic and butter prawns) tasted delicious and were served within a few minutes (less than 5) after placing the order. The price is very reasonable too and you can have a proper meal for two along with a bottle of wine or a few cocktails within 40 pounds. Before settling on a dinner destination, we did some research online because we're new to the city and decided on La Vina out of a shortlist of two. I thought I better be prudent and made a reservation since it was Thursday and it seemed like it might be a popular after work place but there was no need. It was empty when we got there, which was fine with me. Just us and a couple of 'early bird specials' finishing up. We were warmly greeted by Tomas, who also turned out to be our waiter for the evening. He immediately put us at ease and didn't make us feel silly for not being great with pronunciation. No pretentious attitudes here! We ordered a jug of Sangria because the bartender hadn't arrived yet so they weren't serving cocktails, some Seville olives and the boquerones (white anchovies) to tide us over until we'd read through the menu. While we tucked into those, Tomas came back for a chat and gave us some advice on what to order. I'm generally not a fan of waiters coming over to talk, especially not on a date night but he was genuinely nice and good company so we really quite enjoyed talking to him. He came back to check on us, chat and top up our glasses throughout the evening while giving us enough space. A hard balance. We ordered the fritura mixta (mixed fried seafood - mussels, octopus, calamari, prawns), langostinos (salt baked tiger prawns in their shell) , albondigas (meatballs), aubergine rolls and asparagus. After all that we managed to share some churros. The sangria was strong and not too sweet, really nice flavour and easy to drink. Two of us shared a jug and easily had three servings each so it was very reasonably priced at £13. Turns out the staff on duty, our waiter and another guy, had never made it before which they were upfront about when they asked how it was after we tasted it. It was great. Clearly, Sangria is their calling. The boquerones were really nice. This was one of our favourite dishes. They're served cold and marinated. The flavours are subtle but far from bland. Olives were...olives, really. Good quality and tasty but yeah, olives so not much to say. The batter for the fritura mixta was lovely and was seasoned really well - there was a little bit of heat there too. Not spicy, but maybe paprika or cayenne pepper? Either way, we really enjoyed this dish too. Very moreish. On various trips to Spain, fritura is my go to dish wherever I go and while I've definitely had better (to be expected), I couldn't fault it. I ordered the langostinos because they were the only prawns they served in the shell and I prefer them that way, however, they were a bit bland. Inoffensive and pleasant but a bit of a non event. The albondigas meatballs were moist, full of flavour and the sauce was really tasty. On our waiters advice, we chose the tomato sauce over the mustard and it was so good. Another favourite. The asparagus was really nicely grilled and seasoned but the menu's promise of olive tapenade w/ lemon zest sold us on the dish and we got a tomato 'tapenade' style thing on top instead. It was nice but olive tapenade would have been better. I had the delicious albondigas sauce to mop up anyway so I wasn't too fussed. The aubergine rolls are basically a spanish style variation of eggplant parm. Still, very tasty and my partner loved them. The churros were nice. Not the best I've tasted but we enjoyed them. The chocolate dipping sauce was a little burnt and bitter so we just ate them on their own, I personally prefer them that way but the bite of that chocolate wasn't too pleasant. I would order everything again except the langostinos and maybe the asparagus. Not because they were necessarily bad dishes, just not as tasty as everything else we had. The great thing is that there's a lot to choose from and something to suit any mood. My partner and I had a lovely evening; yummy food, great service and a really warm ambience. Will definitely come back...soon. It's a perfect date night destination and doesn't feel like a chain restaurant at all. It feels cosy, inviting and the service in impeccable. The staff are some of the nicest we've come across since moving here. I wish more places followed suit. read more

La vina is my favourite resturant, slightly biased as i adore Spanish food but the whole place is an amazing experience, situated on Deansgate Manchester, a classy place with great staff who are very customer focus the food well, what can i say, melts in your mouth without making a dent in your pocket, you would be expected to pay around £15 for 3 tapas, fresh bread and a large glass of wine. I really like the variety of tapas here, there is probably something for everyone, but the portion sizes seem to vary somewhat each time i've visited - which isn't very good for knowing how many dishes to order! Since moving to Manchester in January i've been a massive fan on Evuna on Deansgate for some top quality tapas!! Out of habit, whilst meaning to check out La Vina for a long time, I always end up back in Evuna for my tapas fix! Finally after many times passing the welcoming restaurant front of La Vina, and listening to many othes praise it, I finally gave it a go! From the outside looking in I always had the impression that it was a small, quaint, romantic restaurant so was surprised to see how big it was and that inside was actually quite bustling with noise! Ive given 4 stars rather than 5 based on the fact that the service was a but disjointed to begin, but improved as food began to arrive. Secondly I found their sangria to be of inferior quality to that of Evuna!! As for the food, everything we had was delicious and portion sizes were good! The menu had a larger selection, with some original additions to the regular tapas dishes you see on most menus! La Vina can certainly cater to larger groups with a large upstairs space as well as round tables placed on top of barrels which could probably seat up to 6! As to answer Evuna Vs La Vina....I think they both have some different favourable aspects and my mood on the particular day would sway the decision of where to dine! Evuna certainly offes a more cosy, romantic and relaxed atmosphere. read more

The always excellent La Vina recently underwent a menu change which introduced additional entrees to their already prolific tapas menu (skewered meat, fish or veggie?? bring it on!). Another welcome addition was sangria-- both traditional and white (with cava) that was a particular treat. Great atmosphere, friendly staff-- and even while service can get a little bogged down on a busy Saturday night, the food is still worth the wait. If only I could figure out what day flamenco is actually on (they advertise it but I've yet to figure out when they have it or, really, where dancers would actually fit), it would be a perfect marriage of food and entertainment. Much better than the La Tasca chain down the street-- better decor, music and much better quality food. But wish they hadn't adopted La Tasca's sangria and tapas plates-- something original (even mis-matched spanish pottery) would have been better! read more

La Vina is a Spanish Restaurant located on Deansgate. The location is good as it is very central but as with most places in Manchester the parking around can be pricy, and if you factor in the cost of parking with the cost of the food it could prove quite an expensive meal. The restaurant itself is lovely and has a very traditional feel inside, from the furnishings and decor to the music played. There is a ground floor with many tables and a bar and then upstairs another smaller floor with a few tables. The toilets are also located on this second floor. There may be another floor as well, i'm not quite sure. We waited quite a while for our food, but the place was quite busy and we were quite a large group, however a table of four guys next to us waited so long that when their food did finally arrive they actually refused to eat or pay for it as they had been made to wait so long. The food itself is delicious and the portions fair, however it can get quite pricy if you're having tapas. read more

The interior design is very atmospheric with low-level lighting, plenty of candles and couples in every corner. This is certaintly a romantic place to eat and the food is up to the job too.
