Life got in the way a couple of times during this portion of the class and I was able to talk to Mika and figure out a plan so that I wouldn't have to miss class. I also loved listening to her real life stories of working in nursing. The course I took was 5 weeks, 8 hours a day. The first two weeks were online. There is a lot of reading, a lot of quizzes, and several tests, but you get the hang of it quickly. The second week was practical where you learned the skills. I got pretty frustrated when I didn't get the skill right the first time, but the fact is that there are a lot of steps to the skills and these are brand new things that I'm learning. It all falls into place when you go into the clinical. You get to apply what you learned in class and in your practical learning. I especially loved my clinical rotations at the hospital. It gave me such a bigger perspective on the healthcare industry and patient care. I learned so much and discovered that I really liked working in ER. I look forward to applying everything I learned in my future career.

They didn't just push nursing home or home health positions. They encouraged me to become IV-certified, shared opportunities in acute care and specialty clinics, and gave practical advice on presenting myself professionally during the job search. My biggest criticism is the clinical experience. For the cost of tuition, I expected more variety in clinical placements. Most of my rotations were in skilled nursing facilities and community health clinics, and I would have appreciated more hospital experience. I also wish the school had considered commute times and transportation when assigning clinical sites. Students without reliable access to a car often had long commutes on public transportation, which made already demanding clinical days even more challenging.
