We were given horse brushes to brush a horse and braided his mane. We were given 2 bags of food each person to feed the horses/ alpacas and chicken. ( They sell to others for $1 each a bag or $5 a container). My two kids got on the cart rides for about 2-3 min each. Overall it is a fun place. The horse barn and the alpacas are all very gentle. The barn is open to public. Horse ride/cart is $7 each ( kids only). Next time we won't do the workshop. We can come for free but buy the food from them instead. Next door is Old windmill farm which is run by other family members. They have animal tours too. Good idea to hit two farms in the same day. It is a 5 min walk or you can drive down the path to park there.

Their hospitality leading up to the ride was fantastic, the weather was a bit 'iffy' so we ended up pushing back to later in the afternoon. It was still a bit cold and overcast when we arrived and we ended up being the only couple to join them. Blankets were in the carriage waiting for us and we were greeted as soon as we pulled up, the ride was enjoyable and informative... we learned about the farm and a bit about the battle, both Bill and Bonnie were super friendly and it was a pleasure to meet them! After the ride was over we had the opportunity to go back to the barn and meet all the horses. We learned more about each of them and got to feed them carrots, absolutely worth the price and a ride we would definitely do again, hopefully under better weather next time!

Only about 45 minutes north of Baltimore and a beautiful drive through the country once you leave highway 83. Most of the horses seemed to have been retired quarter milers and other race horses, but seemed like a perfect fit for riding. There are two dogs that will greet you in the parking lot as soon as you pull in, they are Stella (brown) and Tiberius (black), Tiberius will stand in front of you car and won't move untikl you start inching forward. Stella will jump up on you if you let her. We had a group of 6 riders and the weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold. The ride goes through the back of the property through a couple of streams, up and down hills and some narrow paths where you will need to lean under and push past some trees and bushes. Just remember the horses each have their own personality and temperments. All in all, it was a good experience and will be back to do a gallop and trot ride.

I have been so impressed with how Wendy encourages and interacts with the students. They clearly seem very capable riders . I don't always agree with judges ranking ...I was not happy to always have her pony Saw Horse Sue beat me all the time! It helped me want to improve and I did on an occasion finally come a head of that pony! Apparently cheering for myself was poor showmanship...haha. Wendy always had time for my questions and supported my efforts. It seems her students are very devoted and committed. Shows at her farm are wonderful. I will say that my barn is also wonderful and has a great teacher. Each rider has to see where the fit is best. You need a horse or pony for your level and encouragement to improve your skills. As an older rider, I found that it takes some modifications and Wendy apparently is able to work with all ages of learners.

We had saved our money and planned this trip for over a year. We booked the General Lee tour for 9…read moreof us and we were in full Civil War uniforms for the 150th Anniversary celebration. This day started out perfect but because of them having a young girl that did not cinch the saddles properly more then one if us ended up with loose saddles and my husbands saddles went completely over with him falling off and breaking his ribs. We ended up in the emergency room that night and the rest of the trip he was drugged up on Percocet's. 2 of the following days he stayed in bed all day at the bed and breakfast which was fabulous. When he fell off the lead just sat there and never got off his horse until 2 of our friends got off to help him up. A few of our friends have horses and saw that they were not cinched properly. My friend told him he should check them all so he finally did. Mine was loosed and the man behind me told me when we were riding so I kept leaning the other way to keep it straight. I was lucky he was paying attention. Another big detail. They said General Lee could not make it so they gave us a woman in a sleeveless tee that was totally out of place with what we were doing. My husband never got an apology, saying they would refund part of his money or our for not having General Lee or for getting hurt because of their carelessness. I emailed and asked for them to pay the emergency room bill but they would not. I asked for the name of their insurance company so I could contact them but they did not give it to me. This was well planned trip that all but 2 days were ruined because of them having someone that was not properly trained. The thousands of dollars that was wasted because my husband was hurt so bad was not the main problem. He is not a young man and this injury led to other health issues which started on this horse and ended with him in the hospital a few months later for 5 weeks. The entire story I am sure no one wants to hear but a simple apology would have been nice or offering to refund his money or pay for the emergency room bill. I would think long and hard before I used this place. There are some great ones in Gettysburg. I would suggest use one that you can trust to do it right and know that they have integrity and will help you if something goes wrong.

I've been to Gettysburg many times before and this is the first time I have done the horseback…read moretour. This is an AMAZING experience and it gives visitors a unique perspective of the battlefield in a way you would never get to experience it otherwise. There were only eight riders on the tour, all the horseback tour groups take the same basic route where the Confederates formed their battle lines and charged on the third day what has become known as "Pickett's Charge" Andie, our guide had two horse wranglers, John (leading the way) and Andie's daughter picking up the end. Andie sets the tone of the tour from the get go and she is a pistol, great personality and a strong command voice that can be heard from front to rear of the group. There's a horse wrangler at the front and rear of the column so you're never far away if you need help. The horses have ridden the trail so many times, it's automatic to them when the other horses move out. I would recommend the two-hour ride, it gives you the full-perspective of Pickett's Charge and why the Confederate leaders made certain command decisions on the third day of the battle. The one-hour and one-and-a-half hour tour's vary slightly but all begin and end at the same location. I'd recommend doing the morning ride so you don't have to beat the heat later in the day. When you plan your trip, Google the location of the McMillan Woods Youth Campground. It's located on an unmarked road but if your GPS allows you to plug in the GPS coordinates, it's: Latitude: 40.789 Longitude: -74.678 If not, make sure to drive slowly down West Confederate Avenue and it'll be on the right-hand side since it's a one-way only road from town. There's a big brown sign with white lettering that says McMillan Woods Youth Campground that's hard to miss. It is customary to tip your guide and wranglers at the end of the tour, there are three of them so plan accordingly.
