This is my second attempt in two days to complete an employer-required screening at Henry Ford…read moreEmployer Solutions inside Ascension at 7 Mile and Newburgh, and somehow the process has managed to be unnecessarily unpleasant both times. Yesterday, I arrived before closing and was turned away. I was told to come back another day or go to another location. Fine. Inconvenient, especially considering I drove quite a distance because this was the nearest location provided to me, but I came back today. Today, I arrived only to be told there is apparently one nurse working, they may not be able to accommodate walk-ins, and there is no estimate whatsoever for how long I might be waiting. Here's the problem: none of that was communicated beforehand. I'm not here because I woke up and thought, "You know what sounds fun today? An occupational health screening." I'm here because an employer requires this as part of the onboarding process for a new job. I was given paperwork directing me to complete the requirement, and presumably Henry Ford Employer Solutions participates in this process. If appointments are required, walk-ins are limited, staffing affects availability, there are cutoff times, or people should call before making the drive, PUT THAT IN THE INSTRUCTIONS. What really made the experience worse, however, was the customer service. The woman working the Employer Solutions desk, specifically desk number 3, whose name appears to be HANH L., was neither welcoming nor particularly helpful. There was no greeting when I approached, no real explanation of what my options were, and absolutely no warmth in the interaction. The general attitude felt much more like my presence was an inconvenience than that I was a person attempting to complete a service this facility exists to provide. I understand being short-staffed. I understand having one nurse. I understand being busy. I understand that healthcare workers and support staff deal with an enormous amount of stress. What I do not understand is why any of that should become the patient's problem. I didn't create the staffing shortage. I didn't establish the walk-in policy. I didn't send myself here. I didn't design the employer paperwork. And I certainly didn't do anything to the person sitting behind the desk other than walk up and attempt to receive the service I was instructed to come here for. Fortunately, the woman working in the first cubicle for Urgent Care actually acknowledged me, greeted me, and provided useful information. Apparently someone in the building remembers that basic customer service still includes recognizing the human being standing in front of you. After that, however, the experience went downhill quickly. And telling someone who has already driven to your facility that they can "go somewhere else" isn't particularly useful. I know. I have a car. I understand geography. I am fully aware that other buildings exist. The useful response would be: "We're short-staffed today, and unfortunately I can't give you an exact wait time. Let me see what we can do, explain your options, and help you determine the best way to get this completed." See how easy that was? Same staffing problem. Same uncertainty. Same information. Completely different customer experience. At the time I'm writing this, I still have absolutely no idea how long I'm going to be sitting here waiting for a service I didn't voluntarily seek in the first place. Henry Ford Employer Solutions should seriously review how this location handles employer-referred patients. If you're going to accept people for occupational health services, communicate your procedures clearly to the employers sending people here, establish realistic walk-in expectations, and train front-desk staff to speak to people with basic respect and dignity. Being understaffed explains a delay. It does not excuse being dismissive, unwelcoming, or rude. And if your first instinct when someone walks into Employer Solutions is essentially, "You can go somewhere else," perhaps we should start with finding a solution to that.

Healthcare Rant Incoming I usually let things go, but not…read morethis time. A week ago Wednesday, I had another dehydration episode after getting sick--either from a stomach bug or food poisoning. Instead of going straight to the ER, I tried the new urgent care on Grand River, hoping to save time, money, and stress. I called ahead and clearly asked two different staff members if they could administer IV fluids if needed. I explained that if they couldn't, I'd just head to the ER. They both assured me--no hesitation--that yes, they could do IVs. So I went. They're new. They were eager to collect my insurance and co-pay. I arrived at 4:30 PM. They close at 6. Was the staff friendly? Yes. Was the visit a total waste of my time and money? Absolutely. The doctor seemed far more concerned about getting out on time than actually helping me. Despite a long medical history of similar episodes requiring fluids, he brushed it off--insinuating that maybe this was "psychosomatic." (Classic cop-out.) I've had doctors gaslight me before, but I'm done letting it slide. I don't trust most of them anymore. It's exhausting to have to fight to be heard, only to be told later, "Oh... you were probably right." (And you know I make them say it out loud.) This doctor literally told me, "Yeah, we can do IVs... but the right nurse isn't here and I don't do that." ‍ He handed me a pill and sent me home. At least he apologized. But still... Let's be real: They got me in because they wanted the money. That's it. There was no meaningful care. I should've walked out without paying. If it were any other industry, I would have. A friend of mine went a few days later--same story. They tell you they can help, then do the absolute bare minimum. Oh, and P.S. -- It was hot as hell in there. I don't think they set the thermostat for patients. Bottom line: I'll never go back. If you can avoid this place, do. Consider this your warning: Buyer Beware.

It is extremely clean, it is newer, but it was welcoming. Staff is quick with check & friendly. I was seen by Serena PA and she was attentive, listened to my symptoms and explained her medication options. She answered all my questions. I made very informed decisions. I went there for help and I got it by all who I interacted with & medical staff. I do recommend this facility.
