I have MCAS and was getting labs done for that disease and was told I could go to another lab because the smell was making me ill. I asked for a mask, and they told me to look on the front desk. I was told by the staffer that I should keep the mask and wear it everywhere I go because I couldn't be out in the world with all the smells. This is absolutely the first time I have ever encountered this type of thick, heavy smell in a medical office. I do not recommend this lab. The staff lacks empathy for the patients. I would give this place a zero if I could. It's the worst.

They are also offering COVID-19 tests (Rapid and PCR) and antibody tests with super quick turnaround results. They also do many other medical tests (i.e., DNA). However, this is 2020, and the world was turned upside down with COVID-19. Thus, I thought it was worth mentioning to others that you can get a quick COVID-19 test here. In fact, they will have you wait in your car, and they will come out and administer the test. Barb, the owner, is simply exceptional and has been wonderful to my Dad and me. She always has a smile on her face and is welcoming when I pop by. The other employees I've encountered are always super friendly, and the shots I've received are truly painless. I will come back here for more B-12 shots, without a doubt. They're located in a super convenient location next to Aladdin's restaurant on the same corner as the Mishawaka Menards.

They even offered transportation through my insurance, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, everything changed when I needed a simple university medical form signed so I could start my next semester. I was told they would not even consider signing the form because I had missed a wellness visit and needed to sign additional paperwork first. They said this was "policy." I then asked if I could simply email the university form to the office. I was told no--they would only accept it by fax or if I brought it in person. Since I don't have access to a fax machine, I took time out of my day to drive to the office and hand-deliver the form. After I arrived, I was told there was no chance the form would be signed that day. I even asked if the doctor could review it between patients, but the front desk immediately said "absolutely not" and would not even check with the provider. It felt like the decision was made without any willingness to help or explore a reasonable solution. To make matters worse, calling the office is frustrating because you reach a call center instead of the clinic directly, making it difficult to resolve simple issues. What should have been a straightforward request turned into multiple wasted trips, phone calls, and hours of my time. I ultimately decided to establish care with another provider who was more responsive and willing to help. I can't recommend Oak Street Health based on my experience. Good medical care should also include reasonable communication, flexibility, and respect for patients' time.

It now looks like the convenience stores on other college campuses, although it still looks really small, and they still have a quirky selection of, well, everything. The hidden gem of this place is the salad bar. It can be pretty expensive--they charge by weight, so lay off the broccoli and other heavy veggies--but it's oh so good. Don't even bother coming in here on a football weekend.
