From me, the highest recommendation to scoot on out to Maroubra Junction and dine at Kitchen by…read moreJamie. I like food with a story, and I'm charmed by this one, as years ago, Jamie and Daniela invited me (and some friends) over to their place for the concept 'Dine with...', a sort of dinner party with a professional chef. It combined wonderful food that you couldn't make yourself with the comfortable feeling of home. That same feeling has been transferred to their new restaurant, that feels both high-end and polished, but also like hanging out with friends or family. It was all the more comforting that we stopped by for Sunday lunch when there are the Sunday roast specials. We couldn't resist. Possibly the largest Yorkshire pudding that I've ever seen, a very rich gravy, perfectly crisp roasted potatoes, carrots, green beans and for me: roast pork (delicious, tender, perfect) and for husband: roast beef (tasty, he said). Our vegetarian guest had homemade gnocchi, the first time she'd tried it, and was impressed with it, as well as the generous sprinkle of almonds. The dishes we had did remind me of my first meeting with Jamie and Daniela. The food is beautiful and of a quality that's clear a professional is in charge here (he describes his cuisine as combining British and French). It's beautifully plated on gorgeous plates. But it's also not fussy or complicated food, and the real emphasis is on food that is perfectly tasty. We managed to get through the desserts too (that came with the roast dinner). A rocky road brownie, replete with marshmallows and dried fruit; and one of the best sticky date puddings I've ever had. The food really is wonderful and the hospitality unbeatable. Do go check it out!

I shared a entree which was a nicely done roasted beet root with creamy goat cheese. Then I had an excellent Normandy style veal while my friend ordered the beef bourguignon. The side of green beans was also fresh and flavorfully prepared - make a reservation - $35 per main and about $20 for entrées

The decor both inside and out really reminds me of the cafes lining the boulevards in France. Now to the food - I ordered a cappuccino and a pain au chocolat and they were perfect. My pastry was crisp and buttery with warm chocolate inside. My partner chose the croque Monsieur and boy it looked intense and smelled divine. A ham and cheese sandwich dipped in beschamel and fried in cheese? Yes it lived up to the hype. The dinner menu also looks lovely and I'm glad to see there's a few vegetarian options on the menu. Definitely recommend going for breakfast or dinner! PS I went for dinner last night and the food and service was absolutely divine. Highly recommend cheese soufflé, truffle mash (oh lord still dreaming about that) and the Rosé wine.

We rolled in here on a voucher but were prepared to pay extra on pre dinner drinks and coffee as our three course meal was discounted. We were able choose off the menu and the specials without any limit too. There was a feeling that this voucher was an advertisement for what they could offer rather than half serves. However, that being said, the portions are the usual French serves but you still don't go home hungry. The service was excellent from the bar to the table. There is a bar for pre dinner drinks and cocktails. I liked "The Last Word" cocktail. Complimentary bread and butter to start after we chose our entree and main. Snails did not come in the shell so there was no extra implements needed, and they were very nice. The French onion soup suited my dining buddy too. Our mains of Duck a l'orange and steak were excellent. The ratatouille was oddly salty and we probably shouldn't have ordered it anyway. Dessert was off the menu and on a trolly so we were spoilt for choice there too. Not a fan of the coffee but I did order a macchiato and that brings out a multitude of sins that cappuccinos hide. The little chocolates that came with the coffee were very nice. There were a few people eating there and it seemed that some are regular customers. The loos were in keeping with the decor too but are hidden behind mirrors so you might need guidance when you want to wash your hands. You are in a club so you will need to produce some identification (driver's licence) before you can go through to the restaurant. There is plenty of off street parking. It is recommended to use the multi storey cark park but we used the ground level parking as it was very well lit.

With a title like "The Bay" it makes you think of Home and Away, doesn't it? Well it should. It feels a lot like that, as does a like of the stores and people around here. Like everyone knows everyone else, and theres a strong community vibe. It's a simple place. Not heaps to sell, but all really well priced, so its respectable. I think these days its hard to find a milkshake for less than $5, but here they do them for $4. To eat, they can make you up a roll just how you like it, or there are pies. Home made, I'm pretty sure, I can see they making them out the back. And then theres the deserts. This place doesn't have heaps, and nothing extra ordinary or worth travelling for, but a simple, humble bakery such as this one should satisfy on a lazy Sunday at Maroubra beach.
