Personally, I've gotten a bit autistic over the spelt scones and can't seem to get anything else. The flavors change daily and they're especially good on days where nuts are present and there's a honey glaze. All reviews so far lead to spelt scones, so ordering is a no-brainer. If you must go another route, I can also vouch for everything else I've tried--sandwiches, sweets, bread loaves, baguettes--and you won't even feel too bad for the inevitable carbluttony because the beach isn't even visible from the bakery and out of sight, out of mind.

These are open faced sandwiches to die for. Huge. Massively photogenic. (Food photographers - prepare to work your way down the menu.) Fantastic execution. I had the Lamb Eggs - which are lamb kifta, poached eggs and many other wonderful things. My wife had the Wasabi Salmon - which is smoked salmon, wasabi-infused labheh and many other different wonderful things. We were both ecstatic. If you get coffee, go for the house special, simply referred to as Magic. It is a ristretto latte that will make you a ristretto convert for life. Just to be scientific and rigorous, I had a plain old latte right after that. The plain old latte could not compete. Now, of course, the cost of all of that experimentation, is that I have had a week's work of caffeine. I am writing this Yelp review firmly attached to my ceiling. But these are the sacrifices one makes for science. * * * Good drinks. Fine breakfast plates. The croissant was delicious, a perfect breakfast. The coffee was hot and perfect on a chilly morning and had just the right amount of milk. It was so good I ordered one to go, with an almond croissant. It was the best decision made on this trip. The almond croissant was out of this world, maybe it was the powdered sugar, or maybe it was the fact it's rum dipped. Either way it was amazing and will be my new breakfast go-to. Don't miss out!

The restaurant itself is on a corner and is really set up for takeout orders. We chose to eat there and were able to snag one of the few tables outside. The restaurant is very busy so it's best to know what you want when getting to the order counter. We tried the Classic Beef pie and one that had beer, beef and mash. Both were actually quite tasty. We tried them with and without sauce (sauce is on the side). I liked the sauce - not a ketchup (or tomato sauce as the Aussies call it) but close to it - my wife did not. The pies were quite flavorful and tasty and we were pleased both the the quality and the speed of service.

One of my first food stops in Sydney…read more Having tried cronuts and cruffins in the East and West Coast of America. I wanted to see what the Aussies could cook up in the Golden Coast. I was pretty impressed with the 16 different flavors of cronuts/cruffins they bake each day. However after trying 4 different flavors (Red Velvet, Boston cream, Orange spice & custard and Chocolate Lavender) I wasn't impressed anymore. Mr. Holmes and Dominique Ansel preserves the meaning of quality over quantity. This is not reflected at Brewtown Newtown. Nearly all their pastries lacked a heavy dose of cream. The cronuts did not even have real layers of croissant in between. The cruffins weren't flaky enough. Sure it was covered in sugar but it was missing that sweet spot (literally). The taste wasn't quite there yet. I also got to try something I've never seen before and to be honest I'm a bit embarassed I ate something so sinfully disgusting. The Elvis burger. I have no idea why it's called that and I don't think this is in anyway a rock star burger. It's basically a burger with plain cronuts as the buns. The moment I took a bite I could feel the heart attack I'm getting when I turn 85. I tasted every drop of oil that was soaked the cronuts and the beef patty from the fryer. Elvis Burger, you won the award for the most disgusting thing I ate in 2015. Do I regret it? A little. Was it good? Kinda. Would I do it again? Probably not, I clogged enough arteries already. P.S. They also have a ridiculously long wait for brunch, I ended up getting take away. This place is kind of overhyped, given it's predictable location (the hipster neighborhood of Sydney.)

Both of our dishes took significantly longer to come out. The hash was good just not what I was expecting. It had beans, chickpeas, and lentils. The meat was tasty and there was a nice lime aioli with it that gave it a lot of taste. My friend said her smashed avo toast was great. Overall, a decent place but want to try more brunch places before I would come back.

They sell them til they run out at around 10 or 11am so next time I'll go earlier. Meanwhile I did munch into a toasted sandwich with eggplant & mozarrella, and verily, it was the greatest toasted sandwich I've ever eaten. I didn't even put cracked pepper on it, that's how good it was! The coffee was great, it's in the back lane of Gould St so no beach view but a beach view would just take your concentration away from your tastebuds anyway so that's probably a good thing. 100% yum.
