They were having a BOGO deal on UberEats, so I ordered on that platform for pickup. I got the Lychee Fruit Tea with lychee jelly ($8.09 BOGO). I got less ice and the lowest sugar option available, which was 50%. When I picked up my order, I was greeted by Alan, the owner (could be Allan or Allen, not sure if the spelling, sorry). He was very friendly and welcoming. He told me they had just opened the week before. His wife owns the nail salon next door (Shangri La Nails) and both spaces used to be the salon, but she felt she didn't need all that space, so divided up the space and he opened up Cha Miao. Great idea! People can get their nails done then grab a bubble tea, lol. Anyway, he's going to see how business goes, but really hopes to expand and open a location in Kanata and one in Orleans, in a year or two. Oh my mom and brother would love it if they opened up in Orleans since they are also bubble tea aficionados, haha. The tea was delicious! I loved the pieces of real lychee in it and the lychee jelly is the soft homemade type of jelly and not the firm rectangular pieces of jelly that most bubble tea shops carry. I also loved the pink colour of the drink ;) I enjoyed the tea, but I felt I could have gone with a lower sugar option, like 25-30%. So I would recommend that they offer that as an option. The space is small. There are a few seats inside, but I feel it's more suitable for takeout. The place seems popular. The Long Version: Bliss Tea opened up where Sip Tea used to be on Merivale Ave. I think they just rebranded because their drinks taste similar and when I entered my phone number to collect points, it already knew my name despite it being my first time there (I had an account with Sip Tea. Mind you I lost all those points and had to start over with Bliss Tea). I got the Coco Mango ($6.49) and added Tea Jelly (an additional $0.80). I got 30% sweet because 0% was not an option. I also got less ice. My drink was delicious! It contained lots of real mango pieces, rich and creamy coconut milk, and the tea jelly had a nice tea flavour and good texture. The tea jelly is big blobs of jelly like the pudding jelly or herbal/grass/Mesona jelly that's also a bubble tea topping option. It's not neat little cubes or rectangles like coconut jelly. They have a self-ordering kiosk where you select what you want on the screen and pay by card. If you want to pay cash you have to order from the cashier, but you can only pay cash at the cashier. You can't order from the cashier and pay by card. So many rules, lol. There are instructions next to the self-ordering kiosk and on the kiosk itself so it's pretty easy to use. I was thankful for the instructions because the screen was all in Chinese when I started but there were arrows that pointed where to press to change the language. Once it was in English it was really straightforward. Service was quick. I had very little interaction with staff. They basically called out my order number and gave me my drink, lol. There's no real seating. There's this bench along the wall towards the front and 2 really short stools (one of which was on top of the bench). I think it's just a place to sit while you wait for your drinks. It doesn't look like a comfortable place to hang out for long. Unfortunately for me, during their soft opening they didn't have any discounts/promotions and everything was just regular priced, lol. I went with their classic Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Tea. I got the regular size ($6.50) with less ice. The sugar level is fixed. They said they could make it less sweet by giving me less pearls, lol. No thanks, I love pearls, haha. So I got the standard sweetness. The pearls were delicious! So soft and chewy. The tea had a strong tea flavour and since they use homogenized milk, it was so rich and creamy, almost too much so for my tastes, lol. Staff were very welcoming and they were so enthusiastic. There's some seating inside and a few patio tables outside too. The store is bright and clean. Xing Fu Tang is known for their fortune boxes. They're like fortune cookies, but no cookie, haha. You choose a stick from the container of sticks. And there's a number on the stick which corresponds with a numbered drawer. In the drawer is a fortune. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I skipped the fun ;) I'll need to return to try their soft serve ice cream. The Long Version: This Chatime opened in late summer of 2025 in the plaza where Walmart is, but it's near the St. Louis Bar and Grill, CAA, and Thai Express. I was happy to see it open because the location nearby on Merivale Rd in the Emerald Plaza closed down (and became a Tealive. As an aside, I have no idea what's going on between Chatime and Tealive because 3 locations that were Chatimes in Ottawa closed down and shortly after Tealives opened in their places). Anyway, this location is a bit smaller than the former Merivale location but it still has a good amount of seating. It's bright and clean and still looks new, lol. I got a regular lychee QQ ($5.20). I got no added sugar and less ice. QQ is tapioca pearls and coconut jelly. This drink was just juice, no tea. The drink was great and I got a good amount of toppings. These days all other bubble tea places are ~$7/drink and meanwhile Sip Tea's price still stayed the same. Sip Tea's price is comparable with other places now. It's quite a bargain when you get ones with cheese mousse or real fruit. It's delicious drinking the tea mixed with the mousse... Or you can enjoy the mousse on top seperately. Either way, the drink taste like a delicious liquid cheesecake. The brown sugar Bobo milk tea is one of my favorite now. It's my go-to when competitive tea shops offer monthly specials that's not "my cup of tea".

I will be the first to admit that "cheese mousse tea" sounded weird to me, but I like trying new foods and at the worst I'd be out $6-7 and at the best I would discover a new favourite drink. Well, it's not my new favourite drink, but I did enjoy it, and while $6 (almost $7 with tax) was a bit spendy for a smallish drink, in my opinion, I'm glad I tried it. I got the Chocolate Milk Tea with Cheese Mousse ($5.99), which was one of the least expensive drinks. You get to choose your sweetness and ice levels. I got "less sugar" (which is less than "half sugar" but more than "no sugar" - so probably about 25-35% of what they would normally use) and regular ice. I felt that the sweetness was perfect for me. I would definitely find full-strength sweetness too sweet. And there was very minimal ice in my drink, yet it was cold, so this too was perfect for me. Like I mentioned earlier, the drink tasted like a salted caramel cheesecake. The cheese mousse on top was slightly salty but also sweet. It was more like a frothy foam. There was also something like a vanilla pudding swirled into the drink. I honestly didn't taste much tea flavour. The drink itself was like a chocolate milk. The drink was rich and decadent. Service was good and pretty quick. The place is cute with minimalist decor. It seats 9 people, so it's not that big. I would return to try other drinks. They have a loyalty card. So the freaky thing is that I totally forgot to tell the guy half sweet (my usual customization when I'm trying out a new place), but magically when I got my drink, the sticker said 50% sugar. Woah, he read my mind, lol. So the toppings list said "cherry tapioca" which intrigued me but when I got the drink, it was obviously agar/crystal pearls that were cherry flavoured. This was also a pleasant surprise because I love crystal boba/agar pearls and actually prefer them to tapioca pearls. I loved my drink. The lychee flavour wasn't too pronounced, but it was still tasty and not overly sweet. The agar pearls were chewy and delicious and the quantity was good. The events were a birthday party at their old location (on Merivale near Slack) and a work-related luncheon at their new location in the Nepean Sportsplex. The food was good at both events, but very different, which shows the range that Tulips and Maple can accommodate. At the birthday party, the food was mostly appetizers and hors d'oeuvres. They were beautifully presented and the food was very creative/innovative. At the work function, the food was buffet style and more benign in flavour. Obviously I am not faulting the company for this as firstly it was the organizers who selected the menu and secondly when feeding a large group of people with varying tastes, levels of "adventurous-ness," dietary restrictions, etc. it's safer to be less creative and more mainstream. I was very impressed how their regular buffet was able to accommodate most dietary restrictions in the group (celiac, various allergies and intolerances, etc.) and they were able to provide separate meals for the remaining restrictions (vegan, vegetarian, no red meat, and Halal) - I believe a vegan meal covered the rest of the restrictions. Service was very professional and courteous. Apparently, the have cafes in the Ingenium Museums, called Maple Cafe, and they also have a branch in Kingston, ON. I think it's nice to have a resident caterer at the Nepean Sportsplex, so if you have an event there, they are already on site. Looking at their website, prices range from reasonable to a bit on the pricey side, so I think they can accommodate a variety of budgets, tastes, etc. I neither live the kind of life nor work the kind of job where I am regularly requiring the services of a caterer, but I would definitely consider Tulips and Maple should I ever be in need of a caterer.
