This was a great little find. Just down the street from the Sonder Rideau. The staff was so friendly and the coffee was delicious. Normally I don't indulge in "candy" coffees... when I do, it's always too sticky sweet. I mentioned this to the barista and they made me a just-right-not-too-sweet white mocha. I did not stay to drink or eat, but the inside has a couple of tables and bar stools facing the street that felt welcoming. read more

Morning Owl was a great choice for a few hours of working and fueling up while in Ottawa. I was looking for both coffee and some lunch which is why I chose this spot over some other coffeeshops. I first opted for a double macchiato which was made with Little Victories coffee. Delicious! From there, I went with the BLTG (bacon, lettuce, tomato and GUAC) for lunch. I was very impressed by the wide variety of ready made sandwiches that they sell. From chicken pesto to Korean BBQ, there's surely to be something that strikes your fancy. They also have plenty of pastries to choose from, if you're not looking for a full blown meal. This place certainly filled up during lunchtime and seating is limited. That being said, it's easy to grab and go which it seemed like plenty of business folks were doing, as well. Their seasonal pumpkin pie latte here is amazingly good. Very subtle, not too sweet, and very smooth. I also love their sandwiches here. The Bahn Mi was delicious with all the flavours and textures. The pulled pork was also pretty good. A gem of a place in the city of Ottawa. 2nd time here. Their seasonal candy cane mocha is still really good. However, a little disappointed with the bahn mi sandwich this time. It lacked the crunch and sour veggies I had last time I ate it. The location is a little bit hidden - tucked away in the corner of the 111 Cooper Building. Follow the signs and you'll find the cafe! I love the decor and seating space at this Morning Owl location. Perfect for studying since it is well lit, lots of plugs everywhere, and of course the smell of coffee! They bake their pastries at this location so there are always fresh baked goods available. They also serve delicious sandwiches (bread is from Art Is In) and I always grab one before I go to class. I highly recommend the muffins - very filling and great flavour combinations. I am in love with this newly discovered coffeehouse; today was the first day I visited this place, and I've already stopped in twice. I happened to overhear a coworker talking about the gourmet sandwiches at Morning Owl, and I just had to try one for myself. The mango curried chicken sandwich on 12-grain ciabatta bread ($7.08) literally blew my mind. The crunchy toasted panini, coupled with the savory-with a touch of-sweet creamy chicken salad filling was a wonderful flavour combination that woke up my tastebuds and made them sing. Coupled with a fresh and not overly-dressed tomato, cucumber, and bocconcini salad, it made for a perfect lunch. My morning latte was great too, and the baked goods looked fantastic. My husband is much fonder of this Ottawa based chain than I am. He would likely give this a four-star rating. I'm saying it's A-OK. First things first: Their coffee (I had a latte) is good. So I have no objections to going here. The décor is straight forward. Nothing exciting. This particular location has very limited seating, so plan on getting a to-go order. If you can sit, it's a bonus. Would I recommend: It's not the first place that will come to mind, but if someone asked me if it was any good, I'd say "yes". Would I return: Undoubtedly hubby will head here if we are in the area and looking for coffee, so yes. read more

Cute coffee shop decor and really nice staff--but the drip coffee is just not what I expected from an "independent" coffee shop. These are my FAVOURITE sandwiches in all of Ottawa, Hands down. I should give it zero stars simply because I dont want more people finding out about it. They have super friendly staff who are always good for some quick conversation, and an atmosphere that is inviting and cozy. I seriously love this place. Their coffee is always changing, and has a great kick to the stronger blends. They make a mean flat white, and put second cup to shame (sorry second cup- I still love you) My favourite dessert is the lemon loaf. It ALWAYS sells out so quickly but when I see the little yellow square waiting for me, it makes my day. I live in the west end, I and I have ventured all the way downtown on my days off just to get a chicken sandwich w pesto mayo. It is worth every minute of travel time. Thank goodness they have 3 locations now. I would lose my mind if I couldnt get my sandwich one day. Seriously though- if you take the last lemon loaf, and I'm in line being you- expect some intense jealousy stares. read more

This review is actually for the Kanata Location. I would have given it five stars except for one thing. I ordered a frappe and when it was rung up, the total was noticeably higher than it should have been. I asked and the nice lady told me it was the cost of the flavour shot added. That puzzled me because the frappe I ordered had a price next to it. There was no mention of charging for the flavour shot on top of the price of the frappe. Either it's a deceptive practice or the lady made a mistake when ringing it up. For example, if a hazelnut frappe is listed at $5.00, why charge an additional XX cents for a flavour shot? Anyway, I paid and didn't argue because the lady was very nice. However, I won't be returning because I don't like being overcharged or deceived. It's too bad that this happened because I really liked the place - it's spacious, the frappe was excellent, the service was stellar, and the chairs were comfortable. Hopefully, they'll fix that problem with pricing. read more

Great little café and sandwich bar. I've had their Americano in the am, it's good. But if you are looking for a delicious sandwich with some different options then drop in! These are maybe the best mid-priced sandwiches in town; the bread alone is a leg up over the competition, and I've always found the staff to be friendly and quick. Gets slammed at lunchtime, but that's the cost of going to a place people dig. $9 for a sandwich is stiff, but they're worth it as an occasional splurge. read more

Great little spot but 3 star review because their breakfast sandwiches need some work. The processed cheese they use turns into a cheese wiz type of gross sauce when the sandwhiches are heated. Please start using real cheese! The lunchtime sandwhiches on the other hand are ridiculously tasty and use great ingredients including art is in bread. Coffee is so-so, because it's a bit on the weak side, at least for my taste. read more
