This studio is home to many of the top ballroom & Latin teachers, coaches (both world and nationally decorated). I marvel at how lucky we students are to find such talented and caring professionals. Whether students want a showcase, to train for competitions or simply learn the basics of dance, the teachers are top notch. Lai Lai has a spacious floor and friendly staff with group classes and private lessons galore. Lai Lai also has amazing showcases during April and November with brilliant themes such as Under the sea, Barbie, etc . This is a great local ballroom studio for people wanting to learn all types of ballroom dance. The dance floor is huge with plenty of room for multiple lessons going on at the same time. There are some afternoons or evenings that have social dance hour, so you might want to find out when those events are... whether you want to attend at those times, or you want to avoid scheduling a lesson during those times, Lol. Many years ago we had a bad experience when out of the blue, the management decided they did not want children dancers in the studio. My son was training in ballroom in preparation for a competition. His partner was actually the professional ballroom teacher's daughter. But we were forced to go to another studio to dance. Needless to say, that was not a good experience. However, I understand that management has changed, and now, under the direction Brenda, it has a much friendlier atmosphere and routinely there will be young students training there as well. Definitely this is a training ground for a future professional competitors, as well as a great place if you want to be motivated or inspired by seeing what others can do, as well as take their group lessons. read more

I have been here several times and my wife takes her private lessons here. It's a large space and many high level professionals teach and rent floor space at this location. The dance instruction is top notch. It is mostly International style and you should have some dance experience before attending. There are some serious dancers here and if you are just starting out, this might not be the place. It's an excellent place to hone your skills in ballroom dancing. The dance nights are just ok, most people are coupled up but it's a good time to practice. Pros: Large floor, professional instructors, side practice area, lots of seating, parking, floor rental great for pros. Cons: Aesthetics could be updated. Not great for beginners or social ballroom dancers. read more

We visited the studio for the first time on a Wednesday. We were there to have a good time dancing and not taking any lessons. The space is big, actually it seems too big to me. It does not give you a feeling of warmth and coziness by any means; you can feel lost in this large space. The space is divided (by tables & chairs) into seating/eating, dance floor, and practice area. The dance floor is nice and big. There were about 10 couples on the main dance floor, of which there were about 3 couples that kept practicing all night. There were about 5-6 couples who stayed practicing in the Practice area. The music was Chinese; the volume was too low from where we sat. They turned up the sound when we requested but then turned it soft again, maybe someone complained. We did not like the music; it lacked excitement or clear rhythm to dance. The dancers were mostly or all using the International Style Ballroom and not American. The dancers zoomed from one spot to another, even at times going in the wrong direction (against the traffic). They seemed to lack dance etiquette, bumping or almost bumping into us without apologies; in fact they even acted somewhat annoyed by us being in their way. The overall atmosphere was stuffy, opposite of relaxed; the people were so uptight. We were glad to visit a Chinese dance floor. It was certainly an experience. We will never come back to this place again, for sure. read more

4 months after I read my first review after attending only class, I am happy to report that I have been attending their group classes every week since then and also took some privates as well and the quality is as good as it gets! During the heat wave, there was plenty of A/C to keep us all cool. They have great deals if you pre-purchase group and floor fee cards. It totally makes the best deal money wise. I like that the staff is friendly and also that they have large bathroom stall with chair so you can easily change if you need to. Happy customer here! read more

Lai Lai has 26 years of history and has produced many ballroom dancing champions. Me and my wife have been practicing in Lai Lai for at least 10 years. If you like international Standard and Latin styles, this is the place to go in east LA. There are many high level dancers and teachers. The Tea Dance and Tue thru Sat Night Dances are very dim light social events. In these parties, Chinese musics were played mostly, with a few Int. Std. songs. Don't expect too much during these social dances. Monday night is our favor all Int. Std. dances with bright lighting and fewer dancers. Lai Lai's large smooth cushioned wooden floor without any interior column is wonderful and easy on our feet. However, due to the age and non-stop usage, the floor started to have uneven settlements, it can use a resurfacing job. The bathrooms need to be totally rebuilt to meet sanitary requirements. read more

The mirror isn't too clean, has lots dust and finger prints, but the dance floor is pretty big. I come in regularly for my private lessons. Hope they clean mirror more often. read more
