This is the first and last time I will ever take anything to be framed at Lake City Picture Framing. Point blank, the shop is unable to deliver a quality product on time or by their own self imposed deadlines for remakes, but the owner made the entire experience even worse. I was referred to Lake City Picture Framing to frame a great print by Sylvia Gonzalez. I was so excited when I picked it up on Dec 16, I didn't see the issues. It was a $220 job for a basic black wood frame 20 by 36 with spacers. Artwork was already mounted on backer board to float in the frame. After I hung it noticed one of the corners had such huge gap that you could stick a dime in it; all four corners were messed up. If you do woodworking you'll understand. When they cut the wood, it obviously wasn't at a 90 degree angle to the saw. So not only were they cutting a 45, they were also cutting an angle from the front to back of the frame. I called that same day about the issues and was told to bring it back in. I wasn't able to take it back until Dec 23. The interaction I had with the owner that day just left me just dumbfounded. * She would not take responsibility or apologize for the poor workmanship. * She rudely stated that the artwork would be floating in the frame. That's the way it is supposed to be. That's not the issue. * She seemed annoyed that the frame had to be remade. If they had done it right the first time, I would not have been there and they wouldn't be doing it a 2nd time. (And now a 3rd time.) * She would not give me a receipt for the artwork; I had to ask for it. For the second time, I'm handing over a piece of art that I paid good money for. Yes, I would like a receipt from you acknowledging you have the artwork. * When confirming my phone number since they never called, she claimed people don't set up their voicemail or delete messages. She repeated that twice. My mother left me a voicemail earlier that same day; my voicemail works. Stop blaming the customer for your employee potentially dialing the wrong number. * She stated the new frame would be done on Friday, December 26, but then back tracked right as I walked out of the shop. Surprisingly, I received a call the next day that the frame was already done. They rushed it for me. Yup rushed. All four corners not aligned with gaps. One corner was even scratched up. Try three here we come. Jan 3rd, since I hadn't heard from them, I called. Employee stated she didn't know the status and since the shop was so busy would I mind a call back. No problem. Call back was from the owner. She started down the same path about how I wasn't satisfied with the work, they've been in business for over 40 years and the corners were "only slightly off." When I called out the fact that there were gaps in all four corners and one corner was even scratched up, her attacking attitude diminished. HOWEVER, she stated point blank her shop does not guarantee that frames will not have scratches. What?! A brand, new $220 frame coming out of her shop can have scratches?! I asked her to clarify what she meant and she reiterated what she said adding that the scratches were from the frame stock they use. So why use scratched stock to begin with? She stated it would be completed by January 6. On my way home from the office Jan 6 around 2:45pm, I called to see if it was ready. Nope. Spoke with owner; again abrupt and rude. Long story short. Not done. She stated it was on the table being worked and that it would be finished after an employee came back from lunch. Ready for pickup at 5pm. Because of the time from my home to LCPF, I stopped by my way home from work on the 7th. Again, not done. Well, I finally rescued my artwork today, Jan 8th. Let's just say black frames will show every imperfection especially big ones. I'm done dealing with them. Yet, I unfortunately had one more interaction with the owner. This time she actually apologized. Seriously, how many interactions later? Too little, way too late. I stated I don't want to talk to her, but she wanted to keep on talking and prove how she was right. I called out the fact that it wasn't done the day prior even though she told me it would be done two days earlier. She went down the excuse path. If there truly was an issue with one of her employees, where was the call telling me not to come Jan 6 at 5pm. There wasn't one. Had someone called me, I wouldn't have been as annoyed on Jan 7th. As I was walking out of the shop, she stated "I just can't satisfy you." I responded "No, you can't." Honestly, I really feel sorry for the employees of the shop. If the owner is treating customers this poorly, how bad does she treat them? The only thing I can say to the owner is "Own the poor workmanship, stop with the excuses, inform your customers, don't attack your customers and just apologize when things go wrong." And the only thing I can say to a prospective customer, "Don't go there." read more

I came in today to have a large poster reframed. I left after waiting about 5 minutes at the entry counter of nobody talking or noticing me, and wondering if anyone was going to help me. There were 4 people working there and 1 other customer. An older lady was helping the other customer. There was a tall young guy, a younger lady, and an older man. Those 3 folks were behind the counter area and I tried to make eye contact but all ignored me. If they are working on other things and could not help me and I was to wait for the lady who was helping the other customer, that would have been fine but to just be ignored seemed weird and rude. I saw them talking to each other and doing stuff but again completely not acknowledging me. Finally made eye contact with the older guy but nothing. I moved in area where the other older lady was helping the other customer to see if she would ask me to just wait but nothing. There is a sign on the entrance counter that said they were short staff and to be patient. This was fine by me but to get no hello or acknowledgment that someone would help me was not good. I've had a framing project done here before and it was done great. Well, I left and went to Willard Art & Framing. They were great and super helpful. I like Lake City Picture Framing at 140th and Lake City Way. I can't count the number of pictures I've had framed there. I've had pictures framed elsewhere in the past, but since I found Lake City Picture Framing, I haven't bothered to go anywhere else. They have a great selection of mats and frames, excellent staff to provide advice if you want it, and flawless assembly (or you can have all the materials prepared to size and assemble it yourself if you prefer and have the necessary tools). It's a local business, not part of a chain, and I believe family owned. When I travel, the souvenirs I'm most interested in are works of art by local artists. I have come here several times. I really enjoy art and they have done such a nice job on my different art pieces in the past. Today, . I had four pictures, with old frames and faded. These were all pictures that needed to be Updated. They . all were inherited pieces I loved. It was quit busy today as I came in. .i usually have Lynn help me. she is an incredibly no nonsense person. With the que , she was unable to help me. Enter new person to help me, with my framing needs, I was not comfortable with the young woman who helped me. She had yellow hair, hat with ears and lots of chains. Old fogey alert, I thought she couldn't help me. However, she did a meticulous job on help me choose the best choices for my artwork. Each piece i brought had so many memories. I appreciate the care they acknowledged into some ragged and ratted artwork. They made it shine, People. ring treasured memories here. Love that they respect the emotions behind each piece. I've taken multiple pieces to get framed at Lake City Picture Framing. Typically the customer service is not great, but not bad. Often you walk in and they will have multiple employees on the floor and still it is not uncommon you won't be greeted. That's ok, I get that happens sometimes. But my recent experience was really bad when getting a piece framed. Unbeknownst to me, they charged me for "quick" fitting, an additional 22 dollars. I only realized it after I had paid and was given my receipt. The person assisting me never mentioned they were completing it quickly with a two week turnaround time and I was never told I was being charged an additional $22 dollars for them to frame the piece in two weeks. I also never asked for the piece to be done quickly. When I came in five days after the date they wrote down on my receipt they told me the piece was not finished. I explained I felt frustrated that I drove to the shop and wished they had called. The employee became agitated when I stated that driving there was an inconvenience and that it was 5 days past the date they provided me for pick up. I replied stating I didn't like her vibe towards me, she then pointed at a sign stating they were understaffed and I left after that. When I came back a week later an employee was checking me out and then proceeded to get the owner of the store. Right away she was unkind. She stated that she heard I was upset that it wasn't ready on time and that her daughter was upset too. I asked why her daughter was upset? It was actually a genuine question, I didn't realize it was her daughter who was the employee that had been working when I went to pick up the piece getting framed. She proceeded to become increasingly rude towards me stating that I told her daughter "I don't like your vibe." I acknowledged I had stated that and that it was inconvenient for me to drive there and then have to come back since it was not ready when they stated it would be. She asked where I lived and when I told her it was Lake Forest Park she scoffed and told me she could walk to Lake Forest Park in a minute, which is simply not true and clearly caustic. They aren't in the business of customer service or even being respectful to customers. They charged me additional for it to be done "quick." Even though I had not asked for it to be done quickly and they didn't tell me I was getting an additional charge, on top of it was not finished on the date they provided. I will happily be taking my pieces to other stores in the future. read more

They are located on the busy streets of Lake City, but pulling into the private parking lot wasn't too bad. Coming in, I was looking for already made frames to house the picture of my grandmother for her funeral. As I walked around, I was overwhelmed with the various options of frames. After wandering around checking out the frames, I found one that looked perfect for my grandmother's picture. Not long after finding it, I was greeted by Janet who helped me proceed with framing my grandmother's picture. She walked me through the different options of glass and explained to me the differences. Janet was very helpful and also kind for putting a lot of care into putting together the frame for my grandmother. The prices of the frames, from custom to ready made, are moderate to pricey. I chose a frame that was on the pricier side, but in the long run, it is priceless for my grandmother. The look and design of the frame was well worth it. A truly amazing organization of extremely competent, fast, friendly and professional staff. I had to replace the glass on a 40" x 50" frame of a collage of my mother's (recently passed) life story. I figured in these tight supply times, it was going to take weeks and cost hundreds. They took it in and replaced the glass (including snaps properly positioned to make insertion of the art work secure) in less than 1/2 hour!!! The fee was such a high value and most reasonable. I waited a few weeks to write this review to make sure I wasn't just reacting emotionally. We've used Lake City Picture Framing numerous times over many years and they always do a nice job. At the same time, we've had more than one incident where we felt like the attitude from the staff was less than cordial. I share this in order to make the point that this last incident was not necessarily an isolated one. We brought in an extra large painting which had been framed over 20-years ago by a different shop. Over the years, the frame had started to warp and it was clear it needed major work, possibly even reframing. Alan however was able to devise a way to reinforce the existing frame and we were delighted when the repair bill only came to $147. Two weeks later we returned to pick up the picture and it looked great. We were very satisfied customers. That is, until someone appeared from the back (I assume it was the owner, Lynn), and started yelling at us about how poorly framed the picture was (again 20 years ago) and how it required an extra three hours of work and should have been and additional $250. She then demanded that we make a donation to an animal shelter to make up for all the free work they did. Stunned, we offered to pay the full amount (which we also would have done had they simply called us before commencing with the work and explained that the picture was more complicated than they originally thought), but she declined our offer preferring instead to continue complaining about the state of the picture before it was repaired. We left feeling shaken. I can't remember a time ever when we've been spoken to in that manner by someone we were doing business with. Shaming a customer - a repeat customer, who came to you to help solve a problem, about the problem - is no way to grow and maintain a relationship. Instead it is, sadly, a way to end that relationship. read more

Based on my recent experience here, I will be a customer of theirs forever! In the process of moving to the Seattle area and my most precious framed photograph suffered a devasting injury. The glass on the frame broke, and then the broken glass scratched the photograph. It was an Ansel Adams that had been a wedding gift and we were so upset with ourselves. We decided to not to replace it, and instead just live with our mistake. So I took it into Lake City Framing to get the glass replaced. Little did I know, that I would walk a very very happy customer, because not only did I get the glass replaced, they TOUCHED UP the photograph (for free!!) and you cannot even tell!! They also got a scuff out of the matting, redid the back of the frame to include a wire to hang it, cork feet so that it would rest easily against the wall and more. I initially met with Lynn and we discussed the pros and cons of touching up the photograph. She was very helpful, gave her opinion of the scratch, and even showed it to a fellow employee and customer to see if they noticed the scratch. Of course, they did notice the scratch, so that's how I decided to let them go ahead and touch it up with a micro pen. Lynn also walked me through the various types of glass I could get, and helped me assess my glass needs. Making matters even better, the whole job took one day! I was SHOCKED. When I saw the phone call come through the next day, my heart sank because I was expecting bad news regarding the touch-up. But no, they just called to let me know it was all done. The woman who did the work (I can't remember her name, Jill maybe?) did a fabulous job. The folks here made my month and I couldn't be happier to have left my artwork with them to fix and frame. read more

I've been to Lake City Picture Framing twice now in the last few months. I was disappointed with the customer service. The first time I was assisted by a woman and she was not friendly at first and assumed I knew everything about cutting mats (like that for a mat you should have it cut a little under the size of the art/photo). She wasn't too nice when she educated me. This past weekend I gave it another try and was helped by a gentleman. He also wasn't too friendly. When I was choosing my mat color and said I wanted crisp white he showed me one with speckles and then corrected my grammar when I said "that one seems like it's speckled." He said "it's not like speckled, it is speckled". I just probably won't be going back here because I prefer to visit businesses that want to help their customers without being rude and treat them in a friendly way not make them feel stupid. read more

I had called all around and looked online and the soonest I could get my project matted and framed was a week (Michael's quoted me 2 weeks!). I needed this project for a wedding gift the day after I finished it. I was immediately helped, at 5:45 pm on a holiday week. The designer (so sad I didn't get his name) was very helpful and got exactly the look I wanted. I told him I needed it by the next day and he said he'd complete it WHILE I WAITED!
