Camp host is super friendly and he explained where the trail is and where the great view point was (which is not the summit, can't tell from the map). The national forest folks really do a nice job at keeping this place clean and "as nature intended." All of the campsite clearings appear to have been done with care and have a low impact on the natural surroundings. The location of Moosalamoo Campground provides excellent hiking opportunities down to the AT or over to Lake Champlain if you're feeling ambitious. We showed up on a Friday afternoon and were impressed by how deep into the woods this campground was. It's located well outside of any major town and required a few miles of travel down a dirt road. You'll know you're getting close when you see the bear crossing signs. There are 19 sites on the campground and I think only 3 of the 19 were occupied all weekend so it was very quiet. This is a place that I would definitely consider coming back to. If you're ever here make sure you check out campsite 12! It's located much further out into the woods than the other sites so you can run around naked and nobody will see you!

The rest rooms and showers are clean and easily accessible, however, the motion lights are only on for a couple of minutes, so you have to move around if you want the lights to stay on. Also, kinda weird, but one of the showers in the men's room is coin-operated, but not the other shower. Come to find out the coin thing doesn't work, but you wouldn't know that because there's no sign to say so. It was fine, though, because the other shower was working with no problems. The pool is EXCELLENT and well-maintained. You can see that the owner takes great care of the pool, and given that the weather was quite hot and humid, the pool was a godsend! On the minus side, the office was always locked when I went there. You can call the owner's number, but that gets to be a pain. They mention a camp store, but I suppose that's in the office, which, of course, was locked. I just went into Brandon to buy what I needed which is only three miles from the campground. The owner charges for each bag of trash which he says is one of his biggest expenses, but I don't know why he just doesn't simply bake in the cost of trash in his rate to camp there. The biggest pain was the dumping station. For whatever reason, the dumping station is roped off with posts in the way so I couldn't drive my camper close to dump my black and grey water. I didn't have a long enough hose to reach, so what I had to do is use my black/grey water portable tank to dump from the camper and then dump in the dumping station. This delayed our departure by a good 45 minutes to an hour. All in all, though, I would recommend Country View Campground.

Maple Hill offers an in-expensive and convenient camping experience for those looking to go hiking or sight seeing in the Bristol/Waterbury area. The "downtown" of Bristol is a short drive away if you need to buy supplies or want a nice evening out for dinner and ice cream. They have both wooded and field sites you can get a nice spot right on the river. There is also a bathhouse with running water, showers, and flush toilets. I have never been so pleased with an experience of true human compassion and the people running this campground are what all humans should achieve to be. I know this review may be somewhat cryptic but might I just add: Make sure that you remember that the road for the campground is located across the street from the white house and not to find yourself going down a rocky dirt road in the dark, in a rainstorm, in the fog....Things may not end up well for you haha. Anyways, Martha is the best and thank God for AAA. Check in and registration is at the white house and campsites run about 25/night for non electric sites.

The field sites are huge, and open... they don't offer the privacy but would be a fantastic place camp with a group and stargaze. Maybe the only time I have used a campground bathroom and not had to avoid the hordes of harvestmen/daddylong-legs. And the bathroom lights are solar powered! Super nice owner, low rates, very clean grounds. It's close to some neat swimming holes, hiking and mountain biking trails, as well.

We stayed at site 6 and were lulled to sleep by the sound of the babbling stream. The setting is stunning in regards to silence and solitude. Our last night, around 9 PM, two super charged Rubicon's from New Jersey, rolled in, all lit up with LEDs. The loud Millennials put on their bright LED headlamps and bright LED lanterns and set up camp. What ensued was door slamming and at times, loud convo. This went on until past 2 AM. Truly, this crowd was in the wrong campground. Otherwise, we loved hiking around the area. We loved the proximity to Rochester. We loved off the grid camping. We left a bit tired from lack of sleep, last night but otherwise, Chittenden was close to camping heaven.

If you're looking to get away from RVs and have a real rustic experience - this is your place. The…read morecampground is located about 2.5 miles down a dirt road, which means RVs and trailers might have a hard time accessing it. There are 17 spaces in total and the cost is $10/night. There are outhouses but no potable water. I recommend bringing at least one gallon per person, you can get water from the creek to wash your dishes with, just boil it first. In fact, you should stock up on everything before coming here because there are no towns nearby and the campground host does not sell firewood. There is an oddball couple that sells wood, they're just a few miles west on the highway. Be careful of their dogs and get ready for some weird stories. Most of the sites are good and spaced apart enough to give a moderate sense of privacy. A few of them are fairly close, maybe 25 yards apart. So you're going to hear what your neighbors are doing. Each site has a fire ring, picnic table, tent pad, and parking for at least one car. The campground is shrouded by trees, so you'll feel like you're in the wilderness (which you are), but won't be able to see much of the stars at night. There always seems to be vacancies, but you'll want to make a reservation to get a site along the creek, which sounds so peaceful at night. Most of the other campers were respectful, except for one group that was playing some lousy music. I've stayed here twice and will probably do so again. Moosalamoo is nearby, but I found it to have zero privacy and there's no creek to fall asleep to. Chittendon Brook also has some trails nearby, the campground trail only takes about an hour and you can go to Beaver Pond and soak in the absolute silence of the place. Chittendon Brook is where it's at.

Gifford Woods State Park is a great location for hikers (or any visitor to the Killington area for…read morethat matter) to bunk for a couple of nights. The park hosts 4 cabins, 22 tent/RV sites, and 21 lean-to sites located around two paved/well-maintained dirt roads on the premises. It appears to be open Memorial Day weekend to late October. It is a breeze to find, easily located just off Route 100. The Appalachian Trail runs right through the park so you may catch a glimpse of some thru-hikers on their journey between Maine and Georgia! The park is very well-maintained! The campsite was neatly raked, the fire pit cleaned out for use. I stayed at campsite #1 and it was quite spacious...a bit further removed from the road than the other campsites. The whole site was marked out with a fine gravel, plenty of room for parking and maneuvering the car. Each road loop contains modern bathrooms and coin-operated hot showers. There are areas for picnicking, volleyball, horseshoes, trash/recycling, and drinking water. Kent Pond is just across the way complete with boat launch and fishing! Booking and check-in were a breeze for this location. I called 10 days before our intended arrival and got a site no problem. On arrival, the ranger at the park office was very friendly and sold us firewood and ice straight from there. If you need any assistance during off-hours, the ranger lives in a cute house attached to the park office. They encouraged us to knock on the door at any time if we needed help. The campsite is pet-friendly and I came across quite a few well-behaved dogs during my stay. Quiet hours are from 10pm-7am. The park itself is pretty quiet all day long... I heard nothing but birds chirping, trees rustling, and a bit less-welcoming: the traffic from Route 100. This didn't bother me so much since I generally wear earplugs to sleep but something to consider if you prefer a more rustic atmosphere when camping. Tent sites are between $20-$22/night, $27-$29 for a lean-to site, and $50 for cabins. There is a 2-night minimum for reservations. Affordable, clean, convenient... I would definitely stay here again!

Amazing campground that has everything you could ever want in a campground…read more Swimming, boat rentals, boat dock and launch (for smaller boats at least), a huge lake to explore, hiking trails that go through an abandoned village, brand new bathrooms and showers, and lots of education programming for kids. Tons of families here when I went and I can see why. And many of the sights have incredible views of the lake and the mountains. Side A camping sites were a bit better than side B.

What a rip off! and to add further insult to injury I had to give these people an extra 25 just to drive my car off the property. Funny they should say that because the "Riff Raff" were the losers staying at the campground that night.The whole camping "experience" cost me well over 40 since they charge 25 just to reserve a site. .....I do have to mention that the owners were pleasant enough to deal with, but my horrible camping experience that night far overshadowed any kind of niceties they exhibited...I would never , ever recommend this campground if you were looking for a quiet relaxing outing. Perfect place for people that drink cheap beer, drive rusty pick up trucks and watch nascar.
