Owners are sweet and helpful. Rooms are comfortable. And the food in the restaurant way delicious and priced reasonable.

Salmon - couscous, radishes, and cucumbers, topped with lemon dill tzatziki sauce garnished with snow pea shoots... minus a bite or two :)

Very friendly and attentive staff. Delicious drinks. Good is very good, but not great. The only classy place to eat in the area, though.

He framed a tour for us (hiking, farmers market, swimming, mountain views, picturesque towns) that was the height of our trip. Nailed it! We actually booked the Cozy Screen House the first two nights (beautiful site, CLEAN inside and out, real futon, flashlights, S'more fixings, everything! ) and we almost didn't want to give it up to be inside the Mill. Pictures can't evoke the energy in this place: the scented wood and stone entryway; the warm tones and lighted walls and creaky planks of the main living room and bar; the authentic STEEP climb to the upstairs (shared) bathroom-with teak tub! (Knuckle bite)- oh and then the upstairs private bedroom and sitting room...just outstanding. The constant rush of the river was very soothing. Felt very relaxed and comfortable using the deck, towels, drying rack, coffee maker, and bug spray available. Notes: beautiful natural paths (uneven stones, careful), and gorgeous hand made wooden steps (hold hand rail) from deck to main house. Swimming on site is an unforgettable experience! But not for the faint of heart, or those with vertigo...very steep steps (excellent solid rope hand rail), then an almost vertical ladder of 5-6 steps. Wow! Totally worth it! This is long, I know, but go see them, John and Manjula, their place, their love of laughter, peace, and adventure. Prepare to be enlightened!

Both have wonderful recommendations on the area if, like us, you are new to Middlebury and visiting friends who just moved to town a week ago. The rooms are absolutely adorable and you can tell they took great time and effort into designing and curating the B&B with attention and detail. A couple of warnings: you are staying in a house that was built over a hundred years ago. All things considered, it's in great shape, but as of now, the exterior drastically needs a paint job. The Victorian nature of the house makes it look a little like the Psycho house. Don't give up, just go inside! However, once you are inside, you are in heaven. Karen is the nicest person you could imagine hosting a B&B. She was very excited to be sold out for a special event at the Star Trek tour. The place looks great inside (see my photos). We stayed in the Rose Room. The room was huge, with a very good bed. The bathroom is large as well. We loved everything about it, except for two small things. The jacuzzi tub does not have a shower. I did not notice this when reserving the room. Of course, a bath is fine. The only other complaint I have is that the wifi did not work in our room. It's a very big house, so I was not completely surprised. Our cell phones worked fine (Verizon). Wifi worked fine in the living room, which is also a very comfortable area. There is a flat-screen TV with Hulu in the living area (which happens to have the Star Trek episodes...). There are very large lawn areas outside the house, which would be perfect for events like wedding. I saved the best for last. The breakfasts are amazing. All home-made. In four days I put on three pounds! With my wife being vegan, we are used to getting no choice for breakfast, but she gave multiple vegan options every day we were there. KAren is really sweet and tries very hard to make everyone happy!

My wife found it online the day before we came up on a busy June weekend. The quick rundown is there's a big converted barn where we stayed. The rooms are clean, rustic and charming. The barn lodge was quiet each night while it was clearly a busy weekend. There's also camping allowed on the site, but the vibe is mature and family friendly. Everyone we met was kind and polite to me and my 9 y/o son. There is a separate shared bathroom and shower facility about 30 feet from the barn. While this may not be everyone's thing, the indoor and outdoor showers are all clean, strong and felt wonderful after a day out on the trails. There is a large shared common area with a tv and nice space to read, which doubles as bike storage if you're rolling around on a $10,000 sled. There's also a shared fridge and coffee there in the am. If you're coming up to bike the KTA trails or just enjoy the beauty of the region I can't recommend the farm enough. It may be my regular place to stay for future weekend trips.

Nestled in the…read moresmall mountain town of Ripton, the Chipman Inn offers a cozy, timeless stay with incredible hospitality from the owner, Colleen. We ended up at the inn under stressful circumstances after my sister began experiencing leg pain at the start of our trek on the Long Trail. After kind Vermonters gave us a ride into town, we started calling around for a place to stay. Although the inn was fully booked, Colleen generously offered us a room that had not yet been renovated. From the moment we arrived, our nerves settled into the relaxed pace the Inn embodies. The newly renovated spaces are beautifully designed with muted greens and dusty blues that feel both classic and inviting. The inn has a touch of English charm with an eclectic style that feels effortless and understated. The beds were incredibly comfortable and clean, the surrounding landscape was stunning, and everyone we met in Ripton was so welcoming. Locals happily offered us rides to nearby restaurants and beautiful swimming spots along the river, making us feel like part of the community. I highly recommend staying in Ripton over the more built up neighboring town of Middlebury. We had already booked a night there and stayed the following evening, but it simply could not match the warmth, charm, and whimsy of the Chipman Inn. The food was another highlight. Colleen made us an amazing breakfast sandwich, a delicious latte, and a refreshing berry smoothie that were the perfect start to the day. I must say, the coffee in Vermont does not miss! We left feeling genuinely cared for and are so grateful for Colleen's kindness and hospitality. We will absolutely be back!
