Everybody respects the time of everyone so meeting was on point and on time. I love the decored wall in the patio. So lovely and full of life. If you are a visitor be aware that most probably you will have to park outside the school because it seems to be very busy at least at the time that I went and there are not many parking spots. This school is located close to a couple of orchid nurseries which a plus to the already beautiful scenery of Vista.

I personally witnessed him physically pushed to the ground and punched by a group of kids, the yard teacher said " what did you do to make them hurt you?". He came home with scratches so bad on his body that he thought he had a sunburn. I told the principal and there was no action, only offered a school councilor "three times a week" for my KINDERGARTNER. This is just the tip of the iceberg for how incredibly awful this school, its leadership & the faculty were. I moved him schools & he has been doing amazing ever since. DO NOT put your child in this school. I don't have enough words to express on here how much of a genuine nightmare it was, and this experience set my son up to hate & resent school, created a deep sense of self hatred & self consciousness that has stuck with him. Now that my kids have graduated…read more.. Background: We switched from the charter system at the high school level. We were running out of classes to take/electives, we were having to volunteer to the point where between extra curriculars and homework, we were down to 2-3 hours of sleep per night. Running around sleep deprived with lack of support from the school. Add on top of that there was a whole lot of politics/parent drama being dragged onto campus and I could see that kids were turning inward in survival mode instead of growing/thriving. You can probably read in my other review (of a charter) that we went to a public school and they helped us come up with a plan in under 10 minutes for two students. That was RBV. And yes, their counseling department was/is fantastic. They answered our questions even without an appointment. Any time we needed support, they were always there and went the extra mile. When we did a school tour, we watched the senior class president speak with poise and confidence. That was a HUGE difference between the charter kids and the public school kids. I pointed at him and told my kids that they needed to go from mousey to that guy by graduation. So was it worth it? It depends. Were there more electives? YES!! Even shop class. The kids made a lot of great memories finding out who they are, while contributing to the community through their classes. Were the science classes as good? Depends. Chemistry, no. They didn't do a lot of hands on which was majorly disappointing (they really need to shore up this part of the curriculum), but they had these awesome elective science classes that made learning interesting and fun. The environment was far more competitive then collaborative (with the exception of track and cross country, those were great experiences). Did my kids gain confidence that we were looking for and learn to stand up for themselves? Yes. Getting the parents out of the way and getting them involved in clubs made a huge difference. There were also great teachers along the way that were awesome mentors for both of my kids. And what didn't work for them taught them to either advocate for a solution or change what you are doing to go try something else. That lesson will carry them for life. RBV is a public school and you have to set your expectations. You are going to have everything from the driven kids to the knuckleheads who just want to goof off. Are kids probably going to make fun of yours by saying stupid stuff like any other public school? Yes. Are kids doing sketchy things in the bathroom? Yes, it's public school. We got that in charter school too. That's high school for you. Is it safe? Average. The first day of school, the other kids were cool and told mine where the escape points were on campus should there be an active shooter (see other Yelp reviews, that all happened before we made the change). It stinks that it's the world we live in but it is good to know that the kids were nice enough to share how to stay safe with students that they just met. The only thing we missed with the charter is that they had a partnership with the junior college. Before we left the charter, we had signed up for a summer class (due to lack of electives). It turns out to do that at public school and put it on your transcript is a BIG DEAL with Vista Unified. You have to ask permission, go through a long process, etc. "We should have asked permission," blah, blah, blah. Long story short, it was on their transcript by graduation but if you want to dual enroll, it's not easy at RBV. Not impossible (and even discouraged) but not easy. If your kid wants to do primarily dual enrollment, go the charter route. Also the awareness of what it takes to get into college was better at the charter level. Since the school owned more of the every day educational responsibilities, it allowed me (parent) to go find the information for the kids, reach out to colleges, ask them for advice, schedule tours, etc. RBV had all sorts of colleges come to campus (and the military) and allow students to ask questions. So that's good. But if your kids don't know what to ask, well that's where are a parent, you help connect the dots. The lesson I learned that I want to share with every other parent is kids grow at their own rate. It is our job to give them options, opportunity to try things and figure out what they are about while this stuff is free. You don't have to burn yourself out or them out while doing it. You know your kid. You know what they need. If they need a lot of options, RBV is a good fit. If they need more parents involvement, independent study/flexibility in learning/curriculum, or dual enrollment, then by all means go the route of the charter school. High school and college have one thing in common. The name alone means nothing, it's about finding your best fit. There is more than one option, more than one teaching style. Do what is right for your situation.

Your only have to observe the amount of murals and the visual joy they bring. All created by students. The office has a very nice check in system and everyone is very courteous. All the staff I have interfaced with was very helpful, including the man that takes people to different places in campus in the golf cart! Everything is so clean and white, I feel instantly good there. There is a huge parking lot and it seems to give a lot of emphasis to sports too. Helping students develop strong character to become good stewards of our community has been an integral part of our family's experience. Mr. Tubbs set up a walk through tour before we decided to buy and his first teacher made him feel so welcome with notes on his desk from every child in the class once we did. COVID hit and he had little opportunity to really connect with new friends, but Carlsbad District has maintained getting these kids safely into in-person class as quickly as possible from the beginning. Mrs. Hartman has seen him through this incredibly confusing year (from at home learning to cohort half in and half out learning to full time all kids in class learning). Kudos to a teacher who successfully navigated all the changes for her kids impeccably, softly and efficiently. He says although he misses his friends, whom are still only 10 minutes away :), he is so glad he made the move. He feels welcomed, comfortable, challenged and accomplished. Pacific Rim is a "California distinguished school": "A California Distinguished School is an award given by the California State Board of Education to public schools within the state that best represent exemplary and quality educational programs. Approximately five percent of California schools are awarded this honor each year following a selection process."---via Wikipedia. I attribute much of what we love about this school to their wonderful principal, Robert Devich. It's the trickle down effect. This principal has ZERO tolerance for bullying. He enforces the rules here with strength, a love of truth, wisdom and compassion. This man is a loving father in his own life and brings that same level of warmth and accessibility to each of the students. He's a very visible presence on campus and coaches the kids (who need extra help) in math during certain lunch times. The caliber of teachers here is terrific. No disgruntled lifers simply treading water until retirement. They have special side programs designed for the kids at every grade level. These teachers are enthusiastic and dedicated to the kids. Some of them even arrive to school early (every single day) to answer homework questions for their students. Unlike the two other (San Diego) elementary schools our children attended, Pacific Rim's outdoor lunch court is sheltered from the elements with protective patio curtains on all sides as well as a roof overhead. from passing birds. This lunch table set up comes in particularly handy on windy or drizzly days. The kids can eat in comfort and their tables are protected from any possibility of insects as well as from droppings of local birds. Workers scrub off and disinfect every single lunch table at the end of each lunchtime. This school boasts excellent test scores. Their carnivals, numerous special events and family night events (tented sleep overs in the game field) are fun for everyone.

Our son started going to OPE after beginning in another elementary school in Encinitas in 2nd grade. We thought he was doing pretty well in the other school but after he transferred, we started seeing C's and D's instead of his previous B's. He was also seemingly unable to control his talking in the new environment, so we had him assessed and placed on a prescription and provided IEP support. Fast forward to 6th grade, and he is back on track with A's and B's and even getting recommendations to take honor classes next year in Middle School. I whole heartedly recommend this school. They have great teachers with high standards, amazing IEP staff to play catch up with students that need it, and their counselor Chastity is so wonderfully involved and truly cares about these kids with her whole heart. So thankful that we moved to Olivenhain in time to correct the course of our child!

Teachers like Mrs Bicum, Mrs Cinors Mrs.Lever, Mrs. Theis, and Mrs. Mackey were caring, dedicated, and genuinely invested in helping him succeed. I will always be grateful for the kindness and effort they showed our family. Unfortunately, our experience changed dramatically in 4th grade. My son struggled with reading and had educational needs that required additional support. Instead of receiving the help and encouragement he needed, it felt like the school gave up on him. He went from being a student who earned B and C grades to receiving failing grades, and we saw very little effort to help him maintain the academic progress he had made over the years. During this time, our family was also wrongly accused by a teacher, which resulted in a report being made to CPS. We found this experience deeply upsetting. We were also concerned to learn that the same teacher allegedly shared private information about our family with other parents without our knowledge, which further damaged our trust in the school community. As parents, we were repeatedly made to feel that our son no longer belonged at the school because of his learning challenges and his need for an IEP. Rather than partnering with us to help him succeed, we felt pressured to find another school. The message we received was that Tri-City Christian was not willing or able to support a child who learned differently. If your child is a strong student who does not require academic accommodations and excels in sports, your experience may be very positive. However, if your child struggles with reading, is behind academically, has an IEP, or may need one in the future, I would strongly encourage you to carefully consider whether this school can provide the support your child deserves. What hurt the most was that this happened at a Christian school. By the end of our time there, I felt embarrassed and unwelcome on campus. Every child deserves patience, encouragement, and support--especially when they are struggling. Sadly, that was not our experience during our final years at Tri-City Christian.

Sadly, that changed dramatically under the current principal, specifically Mr. Greer and Ms. Helmick. (4th grade teacher) Before Mr. Greer became principal, Tri-City felt like a place built on kindness, partnership, and genuine Christian values. Unfortunately, our experience under his leadership was the complete opposite. In our experience, conversations felt insincere and performative. There were prayers and smiles in person, but the actions behind the scenes contradicted what was said directly to us. Over time, it created an environment where trust disappeared. In our opinion, Ms. Helmick should not be teaching, especially at a Christian school. If she had been the first teacher our family encountered at Tri-City Christian School, we would never have remained there for 25 years. Likewise, because of Mr. Greer's leadership and the decisions he made, we would not return as long as he remains principal. There are many caring teachers and wonderful families at Tri-City, and this review is not directed at them. It is specifically about Mr. Greer and Ms. Helmick. I never imagined I would write a review like this after so many years there. However, the past couple of years under Mr. Greer's leadership, and especially this past year with Ms. Helmick, were unbearable, to say the least. They both get zeros for their dishonesty at a Christian school!
