Pretty good place! Went on a day trip with family and hubby to celebrate birthday. Cute town! We walked around the downtown, beach, the little shops. Very nice! Had lunch at Oak Fire which was great and some good old fashioned ice cream at Kilwins. Lake was very peaceful. Clean, well maintained area. Has a number of restaurants, many shops, very quaint. Parking is a challenge though. It was hard to find and apparently very closely monitored so watch out for tickets! The apps make it easy to extend time as needed. They also have a Safari experience (we weren't able to make it to the drive through Safari due to ticket unavailability) but seems like a good place to see. They have boat tours as well and boats to rent (although pretty pricey). Overall would recommend! read more

Quality/Quantity - Hottest day here in a while, the locals tell me. Huge lake and of course we end up in one of the most popular areas. Crazy busy. Limited paid parking; then we found the free parking lots a few blocks away. The area we hung out at had a small sandy beach. Boat rides, tours, rentals, etc. Some shops on the pier with public bathrooms. Other things to do in town: Events, shopping, arts & entertainment, golf courses, hiking, biking, lake activities, museums, orchards & farms, parks, petting zoo, horseback riding, spas & salons, water parks, camps, retreats, fall & winter activities, theater, etc. And of course my favorite places - Breweries, wineries, distillers, etc. Atmosphere - See above. Open 7 days a week, year round. Service - Good, from the shopping experience for my wife to the eating & drinking experience for my daughter and I. Price - Depends on what you buy, eat, or drink. Spent the night at the Abbey for a wedding. hotel was understaffed and dated. woke up to a empty tank of gas apparently siphoned off during the night. drove through the town and stopped for breakfast. I missed the 4 dollar an hour parking charge on Sunday morning and incurred a fine. so the wedding was nice the lake is nice but seems like it is not what it once was. instead of 30 bucks breakfast was 60. olympia house was good be sure to feed the meter. apparently not enough cash made on tourism. read more

Be very careful when parking in or around downtown Lake Geneva. Most of the parking is paid parking that is enforced 7 days a week, but it is VERY POORLY marked. The fine for "expired meter" is $30, but there are no meters! I met some friends for lunch on Sunday, April 6th, and parked in the 700 block of Main Street. There was no meter nor anything else to indicate that it was paid parking anywhere around the parking space. I spent about 40 minutes in the restaurant and when I came out there was a parking ticket on my car. The time stamp showed it had been issued 3 minutes after I had parked! The enforcement officer must have been hiding around the corner or something! The lack of anything to alert a driver that the space required payment coupled with the hyper-rapid enforcement makes me think this is a parking scam the city uses to fleece visitors. This was my first visit to Lake Geneva, and because of this it will most likely be my last. It looks like a charming town, but I really dislike being ripped off. read more

Visited Lake Geneva to meet my son for lunch at Gino's East. I wasn't able to find parking in the small lot behind the restaurant so parked in a paid parking lot. I was sure that parking is free on Sunday but thought I'd update my app & credit card anyway and found that I had to pay. Paid $4.48 for 1 hr. Got back to car 1 hr and 10 mins later, and found I was ticketed at 6 mins over. I was planning to visit Spice & Tea shop and Jayne that day but decided to leave since I had to pay $30 on a Sunday in April in Lake Geneva. I lived in Chicago and parking isn't even this strict. The City must be suffering financially. I make trips to LG many times every summer but decided there are many other towns I can visit instead. Won't return. read more

Great place to walk, sit and people watch. Plenty of places for coffee, snacks and meals that are moderately priced. They have a really nice lake trail that goes all the way around the lake. It's a bit muddy off season but during the summer it's a really nice path. Public restrooms are available in summer and the beach is very clean. They also have a River ice cream social cruise we've taken and that's fun and relaxing. read more

Day trips and overnight trips to Lake Geneva have been some of my favorite family trips. There is so much to enjoy here. I think the town really shines in the summer when you can see the lake come to life with lots of boats, check out some sidewalk sales, and enjoy a meal at any one of the terrific restaurants in town. I also highly recommend hitting the shore trail to take in the beautiful scenery of the lake itself as well as some of the stately lakeside properties. read more

It is a beautiful place to share with your family, your partner or alone, also you can bring your dog. Has many places to eat, some bars, also some stores where you can find souvenirs, comics, clothes, art, etc. In addition the access is open to the public (free) the lake has a beautiful view, the sunset is amazing (I went in the summer) there are yacht service, there are many mansions to watch. I recommend this place for a relaxing day, is easy to arrive by car and there are parking spaces on the street (paying). read more

Lake Geneva is awesome. It is kinda like my home in Westlake, CA. The lake is actually beautiful with plenty of boats. Downtown is actually amazing too. Of course if I live there, I would love to go swimming on Lake Geneva. read more

I'm kind of impartial to this place because my brother owns a vacation property here so that alone is the reason why I come and visit. For those that are thinking of making the trip up to this incredible destination from nearby Chicago, I say it's totally worth it. The lake is simply pristine. The view on a sunny day is incredible and there is something so peaceful and untouched about the beautiful lake that keeps revelers coming back year after year. During the summer season the number of visitors certainly skyrocket but it never seems to take away from the scenery. There are plenty of restaurants and activities to be had in the summer as well as the winter. If you are thinking of coming to visit during the Christmas season, there are activities in and around town as well as surrounding areas but be prepared for the freezing weather. Speaking of which, Lake Geneva's Winterfest features incredible ice sculptures for visitors to behold. There are also fun activities like the Human Dog Sled Race and Winter Carnival. For a person that hates the cold, but really don't mind being in it (I know it doesn't make sense), I say to those on the fence that Winterfest is worth the experience. read more

Since moving to Chicago I've been trying to get out and explore, so when I heard that Lake Geneva is only 1hr and 20min from my home I was psyched. So my friend and I hoped in the car and drove to Wisconsin one Saturday afternoon. I wasn't really sure what to expect because 1) this was a spur of the moment trip 2) I've never visited Wisconsin 3) there was absolutely zero planning prior to heading out, so this was about as impromptu as it gets lol. Anyway the drive was fine and we quickly looked online once we arrived to see what would be a good area to explore. Since I had my dog with me we went to a dog park first to let her run and play then we headed to the downtown area. I'm not sure if that were the downtown area of lake Geneva but I'm guessing it was because it had the most tourist traffic and restaurants. Let me just say Lake Geneva is absolutely beautiful, there were lots of cute little shops and boutiques to pick up trinkets or souvenirs. We walked along the lake and took pictures, then we went and got a quick bite to eat before preparing to hit the road back to Chicago. My overall thoughts...it's a nice day trip, however I like lots of excitement so I can see myself becoming bored very quickly. However if you're looking to just escape the grind of chaotic city life for a weekend or even a few hours, Lake Geneva is perfect! read more
