At least once a month there is a free public concert...the genre of music can vary. I've been to a Barbershop Quartet concert here which I thoroughly enjoyed. But I see posters in the library every time I'm there promoting the upcoming concert. For people who use Votran, the bus stops right in front of the library. They also have a variety of events each month.

Books and art…read more The Deland Library is a sleek and modern looking library that is exceptional well organized but still remains aesthetical interesting and attractive. Most libraries in Central Florida tend to be relatively new but frequently just look like big boxes that happen to hold books and computers. The Deland Library was definitely designed to be more than just storage for a bunch of books. The library has a very nice exterior with palm trees all around and the inside is spacious and uses natural light very well. Some great old photos of Deland are scatter around as well as some interesting and eclectic sculptures. The library has a very impressive genealogy and local history room and some interesting programs for both adults and kids. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and one of them even gave us a tour of their wonderful library A very nicely designed branch library that manages to do the usually libraries tasks extremely well without forgetting that there is more to a great library than just a bunch of books.

Don't let the fact that this library is small deter you from visiting. Because this is a part of the VCPL System you need not worry that they may not have the book, audio book or other item(s) you may be looking for. The staff can request the item(s) you're looking for to be routed here from 1 of the other libraries in the system. They will also be more than happy to show you how to make your own requests both at the library and online. Because I live less than 2 miles from this library, it is my primary library within the VCPL System. In fact, I'm here this morning because 2 books I reserved online arrived and I came to check them out. This library, as well as the others in the VCPL System each have their own schedule of events for all ages. The WiFi can be a little tricky as it cut out twice while I was writing this review but that could be a rare thing specific to this day. Overall, I would most definitely recommend people in Orange City to visit and support their local library. One thing I'll add for the benefit of those reading who may need to speak with a Social Worker, VCPL System has a Social Worker in the Library Program. I don't believe the Social Worker meets at this specific location but I do know the Deland branch (and others) do have Social Workers regularly. The Jack Hunt Memorial Library is actually part of the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University but is open to the public. You can even get a special library card and take the books out. Just about every geeky book even written is in here. Besides the incredible assortment of geeky books, the library is actually quite lovely. Lots of nice and comfy places to sit and very cool pictures and posters of airplanes as well as a whole bunch of model airplanes from different time periods. They even have a real glider hanging from the ceiling. No doubt what this place is about, the very cool geekiness is literally dripping off the walls. No, you won't find many mushy books or best sellers here but it you ever have a sudden desire to review some fiendishly difficult non linear differential equations, this is your place.

A roving reference…read more The regional library at New Smyrna Beach is a large building with many of the usual amenities you would find in a library this size. Lots of books, periodicals, computers and even some very cool art and pictures. Definitely a nicely designed and very pleasant place. The library is usually crowded but since it is open and spacious that usually isn't a problem unless a group ends up standing where you happen to want to be. The parking lot is large and even though it is frequently pretty filled up you can usually find a spot. The library has lots of programs and events including book clubs, poetry readings, kid's stuff, yoga, tax advice and even some music. Definitely a very community conscious facility and not just a place for books. Because of it's large size and the amount of people running in and out, the library can't possibly have all the ambiance and warm welcoming feeling of smaller buildings. However it does have two very cool things most other libraries don't have. The first is an ocean. All right the ocean is a few miles away but it still is cool to be able to go get a book or whatever and then go down to the beach to read. The second thing is something called a roving reference. A while back a paralibrarian named Linda Dahlquist decided that some people, especially older folks and kids, might be intimidated going to a reference desk. So she got a cart, put her laptop on it and goes around asking people if they need help. A very cool idea and one of the reasons she won the 2012 paralibrarian of the year award. New Smyrna is a large very and popular library. Not much history or anything special about the architecture. However they do everything in their power to make sure every person that comes in here feels special.

From balloon animal courses, fiber arts, Renaissance events, resume help, or language learning, this location has it all! Plus, the staff has always been super kind and helpful. I've personally taken a couple of foamsmithing classes where you make props for cosplay. In Foamsmithing I we made Deathstroke masks. In II we made pokeballs. Upon arriving, there was parking all around the building. After I parked, I noticed there was a round about to walk around outside and a couple spots by the ponds to read! I went inside the library, and it was very organized. Spots around downstairs and upstairs to study or read. There were private rooms for rent. For the most part, I was able to read and concentrate. However, towards the end, there were kids upstairs that were being loud and I couldn't concentrate anymore. I didn't know this library was different than the Orange County library. I thought it was the same, but thankfully, getting a new library card was simple. I found the 2 books I was looking for! There's book returns both inside and outside of the library! My favorite thing about this spot is the architecture outside!
