It might sound crazy, but when I'm daydreaming about summer on a dreary, winter day, my thoughts immediately take me to the many afternoons I've spent kayaking and paddle boating at Lake Macbride, courtesy of the lovely folks with Lake Macbride Boat Rental. This place offers a great variety in terms of rentals (paddle boats, pontoons, canoes, paddle boards) they basically do it all, and for a very reasonable price at about $10/hour. There are few things better than packing a bag of snacks and brews and heading out on the water for a leisurely paddle boating expedition throughout Lake Macbride. You get a little bit of exercise, you soak up the sun, and you get some well deserved peace and quiet, with a great view of some totally stellar lake homes. They also sell a little bit of food/beverage/ice cream at the boat stand if you don't pack anything, and there's a beach! On particularly busy weekends (ahem, perfect weather/holiday weekends/ect.) you might want to get there early, or show up prepared to wait a little while for a rental. It's a popular option, for an understandable reason.

This is a must do if you are in the Corridor Area. Located along Lake MacBride, this gem offers a wide variety of boat rentals: pontoons, paddle boats, canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards. A couple of advice points.... *Call ahead for reservations. Typically, you can show up and get right on the water. *Rental season is just that....seasonal....summer season. *Lake MacBride has a 10 hp (horse power) motor limit. Operate boats no greater than 5 mph. *Sit-back and enjoy the scenery. Swimming from LM Boat Rental is a no-no. There is a public beach directly next door. *Ask for a standard boat if you want to fish. The owners are fantastic and staff consist of local high school students. Please remember they are kids. :) Price points... *Pontoons are approximately $50/hour and can seat up to 10 people. *Paddle boats and canoes - 2-4 people $11-13/hour *Kayaks - single/double $13-15/hour *Paddle boards - $14/hour ***life jackets ARE provided Mastercard/Visa are accepted. It started raining 5 min. after getting our rentals, but we got partial refunds. A tad bit pricier than I expected.

When we politely asked whether any discount or accommodation could be offered due to the delay and inconvenience, the situation escalated unnecessarily. The owner/manager became hostile, used inappropriate language, and ultimately denied us service altogether. During the interaction, they repeatedly justified their behavior by stating that they were "the only rental company in Eastern Iowa," which came across as dismissive and unprofessional rather than solution-oriented. Additionally, the jet skis appeared old, heavily worn, and poorly maintained. The business would greatly benefit from updating and better maintaining its equipment to provide customers with a safer and more professional experience. Overall, I felt highly disrespected and uncomfortable throughout the encounter. The experience was disorganized, unprofessional, and lacked basic customer service and empathy. Rather than attempting to resolve the situation or acknowledge our concerns, staff blamed us as the customer despite knowing in advance that we were arriving for our scheduled 4:00 PM reservation. I would strongly encourage improvements in professionalism, communication, customer relations, and equipment quality moving forward.

Unfortunately one boat was delayed and we couldn't get on it till 30 min after our scheduled time. The employees at this time were very good. However we quickly realized the boats really weren't good. One boat was leaking gas and rez adventures response was to just sit in a cove and not drive much. Unfortunately for the next few hours we got to smell gas and sit in water that was mixing with gas. Finally rez adventures employees were very demanding when we were docking and had one of our group members hold the boat to the dock so it didn't float away and was over all mean. They should have had rope to hold the boat to the dock not us. Very unfortunate experience

My review of Mid River Marine, North Liberty, Ia - Never EVER EVER EVER have them work on your boat…read moreor keep your boat there! I hit a log underneath the water and it broke my prop. I asked them to take a look and replace the prop, Rick (so-called manager) quoted $75 to do that. They ordered the parts and the parts company sent them the incorrect hub kit. Guess what, more labor they want to charge ME because they had to turn the boat around again and found out it was the incorrect part! They said "Well it's not our fault". Then charge the parts company, not ME! It's not my fault either! They finally installed the prop, spun it, and it was hitting the housing, the prop shaft was bent. They wrote up the estimate "Estimate to repair damaged lower unit and prop" 2.3 hrs! No reason it should take that long to write up a repair estimate if you know anything about the motor you are working on. Yes, it also included pulling the boat out of the water. Their total estimate to repair my lower unit was $3517.81. The insurance company only valued my motor at $2500. Trying to figure out ways to get the costs down I asked Rick what if the labor doesn't take as long, can you charge me less. He refused said they will charge what they quoted! After doing more research I found I could buy the parts I needed for the re-build $900 cheaper than they were charging me (about an 80% mark-up)!! I bought the parts on-line told Rick I would bring them in and they refused to use them (it's against their policy, with an 80% mark-up on parts I guess I would make it against my policy too). I spoke with 4 different marinas that handle Johnson motors and they quoted a maximum of 4 hours to tear apart and rebuild the lower unit. MidRiver Marine quoted 8.19 hrs. We decided to get our boat out of there and settle up with them and they are telling me my bill is around $1000.00!!!! My labor cost for the whole job, complete lower unit rebuild was $1111.94. Tell me I'm not royally getting ripped off!! I offered to settle for labor to complete the estimate and 2 hours for tearing apart the lower unit (which those hours have been backed up by other marinas) for a total of $368 and he said that wouldn't even come close. I told him I was going to report him to the Better Business Bureau and get an attorney. He said "They will get their money one way or another (wonder what that means), do what I have to do" and hung up on me! (ha, ha, ha, great customer service) All the other marina's I talked to laugh and said we are being taken advantage of. Do yourself a favor if you don't have extra money to be padding THEIR pockets find somewhere else to take your boat!!

Giving 1 star because he answered the phone. Took my twin-engine boat to this location with a motor…read moreissue. Motors weren't running in sync with each other. After sitting for a week (which I have no issue with) he then did a "test ride". I stopped by to get some items from my boat the following weekend to find it in an open gravel lot, uncovered and not secured at all. During a conversation with Richard (owner), he told me about how he and his wife took it for a "test ride" to the lake. Said they put it on the water early and it drew a crowd, then how a Baja wanted to race him and he beat the Baja. Apparently, another twin-engine toon tried to race him as well to no avail though, he won that race too! He then commented on how many people were drawn to my boat while he and his wife enjoyed lunch. Weird right? A test ride from early morning to include a couple of races then a lunch stop? Wow, must have been thorough! He determined it was a leaking head gasket and it should be covered under warranty. Told me about Covid and how Evinrude only has 1 employee, it will probably be weeks to hear back, etc., etc. I offered to pay for the service with the understanding that I'd be reimbursed when the warranty claim went through. When I picked the boat up I noticed a blood spot on the toon, he told me no worries that was his blood, no big deal. Then I realized why he was bleeding, he caught his arm on a burr caused by the large deep scratch in the aluminum of the outer toon. Further investigation showed that my toon and my rub rail were both badly scraped/scratched where it appears something had backed into it or it was scraped along something. He said to let him know the cost and he'll cover it. Fast forward several emails and a few month's time. I've never been reimbursed, he knows nothing of the scratches and scrapes, and my motors still don't run in sync. I'd find another dealer if I were looking.
