You can go into a real museum and it's free too. Now the monster museum is not free. But as you wander through the streets of downtown Boulder it's worthy! No casinos! No gambling! Just the best of gambling! All the luck if the past and it's preservation! Grab that one that's special and make it's a day! The twins loved the history too. Eat and be local! It's the best be a tourist in your own town.

Really loved exploring and seeing all the bronze statues and reading about what each statue honored. Art murals and metal art gardens were plentiful too. The Historic Downtown area has darling boutique and souvenir shops, scrumptious cafes, and coffee shops. There's a small, nicely put together town museum that tells the story of the men and women who braved the desolation of the southern Nevada desert to build Hoover Dam and settle Boulder City, too. One of the magical places I go…read moreto is the Magic Tree in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area off of the River Mountains Loop Trail at Mile Marker 13. The Magic Tree is a tall cottonwood tree that got its name from it being magic that a tall cottonwood thrives in the desert. In an exaggerated way it reminds me of the Tree of Life in Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom. Seeing it in proportion to the desert, the Magic Tree looks monumental. Then again, it isn't an exageration that the Magic Tree is The Tree of Life. When my spirit is dying and I have worries, this is a special spot where I leave the material world to open up my soul. This has been a place where I have prayed and spent time in reflection. If anything it has improved my quality of life. This is a magical place that is accessible by a 1.2 mile hike or bike ride on the precious River Mountains Loop Trail (abbreviated RMLT). To reach the parking lot from the Las Vegas Valley, you want to head eastbound on Lake Mead Parkway (Nevada Route 564) all the way to the boundary of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area border. Immediately before the Fee Station, you will turn right into the RMLT parking lot. This is a modern parking lot with sufficient parking spaces. From the parking lot you will head toward a kiosk. Here, you will see some useful information about the area. Beyond the kiosk is a short RMLT spur. At the T-intersection, turn left on the River Mountains Loop Trail. The paved trail starts off straight as it brings you into the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. At this point the trail transitions into a rural landscape with a parallel equestrian trail. The trail gains elevation as the 's-curves blend into the contours of the desert hills. The scenery improves with a scenic overlook of Lake Las Vegas and a vista of the rolling desert carpet reaching toward the mountains and Lake Mead. In the distance below, you could make out a Circle of green. This is the Magic Tree. The RMLT winds along another s-curve as it lowers back to the desert floor. It soon straightens out as it rejoins the equestrian trail. Near the mile marker 13, it will separate from the equestrian trail again. Now you want to keep right on the equestrian trail that will reach the Magic Tree in a short distance. The Magic Tree looks more like a savanna than a desert. It is an oasis. When you look at the Magic Tree you will notice a pipeline travelling horizontal in its shadow. This pipeline itself is interesting for the fact that it is one of the first water pipelines from Lake Mead. This very water is part of the soundtrack to a visit to the Magic Tree. If you close your eyes, it has that nice sound of a waterfall. To take in the Grand views of the Magic Tree, I suggest that you duck under the pipeline. This is the spot to spend time in reflection at the Magic Tree. Beyond the Magic Tree is a magical world of hiking trails. I call the trail originating from the Magic Tree toward the River Mountains foothills the Magic Tree Trail. It travels on a rocky topography through small canyons with slight elevation gains. In March, the wildflower bloom brings the desert to life. This is an area worthy of exploring. I give the Magic Tree five stars. How can I give a magical place any less?

Best Memorial day weekend Event…read more This Friday and Saturday, May 22-23, 2009. If you aren't here you are really missing out. Located at the Park in downtown Boulder City this annual events hosts dozens of bbq vendors,live entertainment and a great atmosphere for the whole family. This is a serious BBQ competition with the BEST in the SW coming out to compete. If you wanna eat RIBS you better come early because they go QUICK.@7pm last night there was already a 30-45 minute wait. Best Brisket was @ Big T's-smoky,crunchy and chopped. Longest line was at OTH BBQ, it was $1 cheaper than the rest. Papa's Smokehouse was great with sliced brisket. Fast line and great service. The brisket was great and the roll it was on was out of thsi world. Great sides too. Whiskey Ranch had the largest display and was steadily busyThey had run out of ribs by 6pm. Sooooo..I had the pork which was sweet and smoky, with real good bbq sauce available. I wanted to go back just for the beans they were so good, smoky sweet with bacon in them. There are Dozens more vendors and they also have chicken & kabobs and of course hamburgers & hotdogs. Prices are fairly reasonable-Most all sandwiches are $8-come with sides & drink, Ribs$10, you can get the burger & hotdogs w/drink for $6 About 20 picnic tables so seating is limited but your welcome to bring lawn chairs,blankets and coolers too. No carnival rides but the park has a great playground and open area to play. Only 2 short days with one already passed so you better grab some chairs,a blanket and head out early to grab some bbq. Another nice thing about this event is that there is a very large grass park adjacent to it. You can grab some ribs and go sit under a tree. The class was well organized and everyone attending was given personalized instruction and attention. The owners are very friendly and love to share their long careers in glass media of all kinds. We were able to choose our materials from an unending supply of colors and types of glass. We were all thrilled with our results, picked up a week later after firing. I have already signed up for another class! The classes are offered at a reasonable price point and the owners are willing to host private parties with 10 or more paid attendees. Just 40 minutes from Laughlin, you will be transported from the desert to the Wild, Wild West! When we got closer to the town, we were greeted by the four-legged locals that make Oatman so popular--DONKEYS!!!! I was in awe seeing them walk up to our car and just stare us down. As you continue to drive up the road into the tourist area, there are shops and quick bites to enjoy while visiting. At high noon, there is a shootout with locals so beware! Truly something out of this world and back in time! Don't forget to pick up some cool souvenirs in the shops since you will want to remember this trip. Also, take it easy going up. The donkeys roam around and will sometimes stop in the middle of the road. Take in the nature and cool vibes while exploring. Tip: many of the stores sell donkey treats. Oatman, Arizona -- Where the Donkeys Run the Town!…read more Heading out of Vegas for a road trip to Laughlin, we decided to make a little detour to a place we'd heard about called Oatman, Arizona. We were told there were donkeys roaming the streets... and, well, that was enough to convince us to check it out! It's roughly a 2 1/2-hour drive from Las Vegas, but we actually really enjoyed the journey. The desert scenery is beautiful, and the last 30 minutes or so is where the drive gets interesting. You wind your way through a scenic canyon until suddenly you arrive in what feels like a little time capsule from the Old West. Oatman is an old mining town that has been transformed into a quirky Western tourist town. The main street is lined with souvenir shops, restaurants, Western wear, antiques and all sorts of fun stuff. And then there are the donkeys. They wander up and down the street like they own the place -- and honestly, they probably do. You can buy bags of donkey food for about a dollar at the shops, and there are signs reminding visitors to feed them only the food sold there. The donkeys are incredibly friendly, curious and just a little bit nosy. Feed one and it may decide you're its new best friend... at least until it spots someone else with a bag of food! And these donkeys aren't shy. Some of them even wander right into the stores, casually browsing the merchandise like they're looking for a new pair of cowboy boots. The shops are packed with souvenirs, Western clothing, antiques and plenty of Oatman memorabilia. The shopkeepers we met were all incredibly friendly, and we thought the prices were actually pretty reasonable. One thing we would definitely recommend: bring water and some snacks, especially if you're visiting during the hotter months. We were there around the end of August/beginning of September, and it was HOT. They do sell drinks and snacks in town, but coming prepared is a good idea. There's also plenty of free parking, although it can get pretty busy with visitors. All in all, Oatman was a fun little stop that definitely felt like we had wandered off the beaten path and straight into the Old West -- with a bunch of four-legged locals waiting to greet us. If you're in the Laughlin area and looking for something a little different, Oatman is definitely worth the drive. Just remember... you're not really visiting Oatman. The donkeys are visiting you

There was an older lady there that made the stop even more enjoyable. Great attitude, positive and looks like she may have lived in the area her entire life. She gave us our Passport stamp and made a neat handwritten note in our book to go along with the stamp. We made a purchase of a kitschy little souvenir of which they have plenty of. Its most definitely worth a quick stop.

While browsing through my Yelp app under "Local Flavor", I remembered seeing "The Wishing Tree", but didn't pay attention to the location because I didn't think we would be in the vicinity. Lo and behold... My friends and I happened to be walking through the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian when I spotted The Wishing Tree! I was so shocked... I forgot about trying to scan the QR code and making a wish. Shucks!!! I guess we'll need to return and try it out!

They have cushioned seats around the tree and four charging outlets which is nice! Personally, I think this tree is more like a time-saving compass. From the elevator, I can see the tree. If I go right, the path leads to Sushisamba. If I go left, the path leads to The Venetian Grand Canal Shoppes. But if I keep going straight, that pathway goes through all the designer boutiques and accessories, and I end up shopping!
