A drive up to Marysville led up to a further drive to the Lake Mountain Alpine Resort. We came here during the summer, and it was a long gorgeous drive that makes you feel so far away from the world.
You can easily see why people would come up here for skiing and winter sports, even during a Victorian summer, it was really chilly up there. Now there's plenty of walking trails, use a map to plan them out, each walk ranges in distance and difficulty and each allow you to see different things.
We were short on time and only did the Bjarne K Dahl Memorial Boardwalk (it's the shortest one). Honestly, you're best basing yourself at the Lake Mountain Village, many of the trails start off from there. One of them goes up to 8km one way and there are about 5 mountain biking trails, each of different difficulty.
I do suggest eating beforehand or bringing lunch up there with you, obviously the resort part is closed during the non-season; and by the time you finish up there, everything in Marysville will for sure be closed for the day. So look out for your stomach and just be a little ready for that.
