This may be one of Statesville's best hidden gems. There is always plenty of seating. The lattes, matcha, and orange-cranberry pastries are amazing. Staff is always so friendly. You won't find this atmosphere in any coffee shop surrounded by a sea of asphalt. Lake Mountain doesn't have many pre-made drinks on the menu. You have to directly order what you want. If you didn't like the menu "latte" you ordered last time, then make sure to specify your order and choose what milk/flavors you want. My only gripe is that they charge for milk substitutes. Coffee and food were delicious and very reasonably priced! We ordered two of the seasonal drinks, the pumpkin pancake latte and witches brew. Pumpkin spice is such a common fall drink so it was nice to try something different. We also tried the chocolate chip muffin and chocolate cake, and both were amazing! If I went again, I think I might ask for them to be warmed up. They had many seating options on the first and second floor, with large tables for groups and smaller tables in a quieter area. They also had outdoor seating and it is located in a great area for walking. read more

It's a decent enough spot--nothing particularly memorable, but nothing terrible either. The coffee is fairly standard and the service is competent, though not especially warm or attentive. It's the kind of place that gets the job done if you're in the area and just need a quick caffeine fix. The service was great and personal. Our drinks were done quickly and tasted good. My husband and I were visiting from Atlanta. Our 5 year old granddaughter loves to walk there after school. We took her and she got her regular hot cocoa. While trying to move us upstairs (a nice feature by the way!) she knocked over her drink. The ladies helped clean up and reassured her that accidents happen all the time. This went a long way in helping a young child feel less embarrassed or anxious. The owner is incredibly rude as is his wife. I have had two bad experiences here. I ordered a milkshake and had a seat to enjoy my beverage. The owner suddenly gets a disgusted look on his face and says "Ugh. You're going to have that here?" Like he was happy to take my money but didn't want me in his establishment. More than likely due to the way I was dressed. Doc Martens boots, vest with band patches...you get the picture. His wife also has a terrible attitude. She got my order wrong and when I told her so she snatched it from he and rolled her eyes dismissively. I love supporting local businesses but if that's how they treat customers I think I will spend my money at Starbucks. I won't be back. read more

On a day that covid case numbers break records across the US, I went to LMC with my family for coffee in breakfast. There were at least a dozen people clustered at the front of the restaurant including 2-3 employees behind the counter. Not a single person in the entire restaurant wore a mask. That includes employees. If you aren't comfortable being in an enclosed space with a crowd of people eating and drinking and not a single person wearing a mask, go somewhere else. read more

We've been here a handful of times. I have been very unimpressed w/ the coffee. Once it was so watered down & over-milked, not what I ordered, that I couldn't really taste the coffee. At that visit, the tables were filthy. Most recently, we returned & only a few of the tables were dirty. I tried ordering a double espresso with hot milk. Apparently, this is not a thing as I didn't want foam. So, to avoid confusion, I nixed the hot milk & just ordered the espresso. I'd have to say, #1 the 'barista' is not schooled on how to tamp an espresso & #2 that had to be one of the worst espressos I've ever had. I dk if it was the coffee itself or if the machine is long overdo for a cleaning or if the cleaning process failed or what. It left such a bad taste in my mouth, I will be very relunctant to try again. read more

Coffee is great!! The place is also very nice and specious. They also sell other drinks besides coffee. It is good for hanging with friends or sitting by yourself. However, my barista was struggling with making my coffee frappe. I ordered a 16 oz frappe, and he gave me 3/4 of coffee because he could not pour the rest of coffee to the cup, so he added 1/4 of whip cream on top of my coffee. I would give a 5/5 for the overall, but a 3.5/ 5 for the barista; he might be a brand new, and I forgave him!! read more

What a delightful experience it was entering this haven on Saturday morning for a cup of coffee with some new friends. As we have just recently moved to the area, my husband and I were not familiar with where to go for a cup of coffee and a place to chat. Our friends assured us that there was no better place than Sky Mountain. Once we all arrived and stopped chatting long enough to order, the staff was friendly and efficient, and I certainly have NO complaints about them..but the best was yet to come! Three of us had iced caramel macchiatos and mine was so delicious and refreshing that I felt both satisfied and wanting when I finished. My husband, not a coffee drinker, ordered a strawberry smoothie. I was amazed as I watched it being made by the quantity of lucious strawberries being used in its creation that I had to have a taste and now I can't wait to have a good excuse to go back and order my own. The baked goods were not sampled on this trip, as we had all already had breakfast, but I will NOT make that same mistake next Saturday! I confess though, as much as I enjoy a good cup of coffee, I was really excited to see their wonderful selection of wines. There is nothing more relaxing to me than to sit down with friends and have a glass of wine and good conversation .... and if I can do it at Sky Mountain, I won't have to even rinse out a glass afterward! read more

We've always enjoyed their coffees and have stopped by a few times over the last few years while heading to the mountains. Today we went and no employees had masks on. I walked out. When you're serving something that people are eating or drinking, I don't want you breathing into it in the middle of a pandemic. This should be up there with cleanliness and food safety. I couldn't wait to see the inside, this is a really great set up for a coffee place. The upstairs is decorated with historic Statesville photos make sure you go up and check them out. There are a few big tables so you will find the environment good for meeting a few friends or spreading out some work. I had a small cappuccino, $3.80ish, the roast is on the bitter side much like Starbucks. They have wine and a selection of beer, I didn't have time to look over the selection so I can't provide detail. I am curious to see how this place will do, it will be nice if they offer a few sandwiches/salad/light lunch items. read more

Great coffee. Good service. Great place to open up a book and hang out for a while, or play a board game on one of their large tables. The rocking-type-chairs on the upper floor, in the back are very comfy and our in front of a nice large window. So happy there is a coffee shop in downtown Statesville that opens before I have to be at my job.
