My friends had tried this place a few times and wanted to make sure I tried this place before my return to San Diego, Ca.. We arrived just in the nick of time before their 2pm closing time during the weekday. My friends were acquainted with the server and the owner. Our server was very friendly and welcomed and thanked me for giving them a try. After we all finished chatting she took our drink order. We were all indecisive about our selection since there were many delicious items to select. They 3 of my friends decided to try something they hadn't tried yet. It was all to me so it was hard to select immediately. But, I finally decided on the Strawberry Grilled Cheese sandwich and side selection was the orzo with spinach. Our orders arrived and we sampled each others sandwiches. I did like the strawberry grilled cheese. I didn't think it would pair well, but I was wrong. I thought the same about the Fig Grilled Sandwich. I think I will have that next time. Or I might try some of the other interesting Grilled Sandwiches. The orzo dish was a refreshing dish and went well with the sandwich. This place is decorated cute and it is spacious inside with booth and table seatings available. My friends told me it is busy on the weekends. Our visit was on a Friday. It could have been very busy earlier but when we were seated there were plenty of tables available. This town is quaint, all brick buildings. Be sure you pay attention to the signs where you park. Parking patrol is always patrolling the area. This quaint cafe with its great menu is a must visit if you either live in or are just visiting Statesville. We go at least once a week and have become two of their many regular customers. The owners are true restaurant professionals. The menu is just varied enough to offer something for everyone, even a pescatarian like me. The quality of the food and preparation are first class. The service is always friendly and fast. We have never been disappointed in any aspect of our meals even though we have been there so many times. We got here a little early on a Saturday morning and were surprised they didn't open until 9 AM. It was worth a 10 minute wait though! The food was phenomenal. I got the fried pork chop breakfast with cheesy grits, scrambled eggs and a biscuit with sausage gravy and it was probably the best I've ever had. My husband had the Huevos rancheros with chorizo and the collard greens and he said the collard greens were the best he's ever had as well. He loved everything! The staff was super nice and friendly. One of the very best breakfast joints which we've ever had the pleasure of eating in. It's a small place but wow, the staff is remarkably knowledgeable and organized. You are greeted as soon as you enter and if a table isn't open, you are told the approximate wait time and that they will come get you outside. Come early on a weekend or plan to be patient. The menu has a great selection of items for couples of families no matter what your preference is. We got the Avocado toast and the Bistro Benedict. The pics do not do this place justice. The 3 ladies working the front of the house had clearly defined roles and they performed them flawlessly the entire time we were there. The cook-chef is very obviously well-trained as the dishes were what I might expect in an elegant hotel restaurant. First time here and I was very impressed. The cute little cafe on Court Street in downtown Statesville boasts Charleston style food with lots of flavor. On this particular morning for a Saturday brunch we had the Lowcountry shrimp-n-grits and the Charleston shrimp omelette. They both were super fresh and packed full of flavor, absolutely delicious! They have a very nice selection of mimosa's and mixed drinks. The staff is great, very friendly and nice. There is 10 or so tables inside and a could out front for seating. It fills up fast and is tight seating , so come early or plan to wait. With this cute exterior and delicious food inside you are sure to love this place too! read more

These folks have done a great job with a converted spot. Simple but elegant interior with historical photos of the town. We opened the place on a Sunday morning and we're greeted with a friendly "good morning". The music may have been a tad loud for 9am but that could just be me getting old. I chose the shrimp and grits along with a side of bacon. This was a non traditional dish. The grits were perfect and creamy. Anyone whose dumped grits intro boiling water realizes it takes skill to get these things into a creamy state. Shrimp was perfectly cooked. The bacon was awesome. On the downside, the plastic plate it was served on was a bummer. It just didn't match the wonderful servers, decor and food. This little cafe is off the main street so you will miss it if you're not looking for it. And looking for it is very much worth it!! Me and friends met for Sunday brunch and found a new favorite for brunches!! Wow, what a fantastic menu of options and authentic cuisine that is so good you cannot decide on just one thing. We ended up sharing our dishes to experience more of the deliciousness, and no one was disappointed. On top of the food being terrific, the drinks were on point too!! They have specials each week. I ventured into this restaurant on a rainy day. The location is down a little side street by the old courthouse in a venue that has been remade many times as a counter restaurant. On a Saturday around noon, it was buzzing! There was one lady working the floor for the entire place. A young lady helped out with drinks and menus. The wait was a bit to order which is why four stars, but understandable given that they had one lady on the floor. The Cajun black and blue chicken sandwich with thick cut bacon added was so delicious! I came thinking I was going to get an omelette, but decided to get that spicy, tangy sandwich instead. I am glad I did! They also have bottomless mimosas on Saturdays (and other weekend days) for a decent price. I would recommend highly for brunch, just be patient! It's worth it. read more

Ah, the Bristol Cafe..... The food is always great! I'm a sucker for poached eggs, and they've got some good choices on that: Crab Benedict is fabulous! The offerings are not "gourmet", but it's just plain tasty stuff. It's a small place, and larger groups will have a hard time, and no matter the size of your party, you may want to show up early to get in line. Because, there is just about always a line. After living in the area for a year, I was pleasantly surprised to find this cafe. Service was off the charts, friendly and attentive. Food was spectacular. I had biscuits and gravy. Delicious biscuits, tasty sausage and the gravy was amazing. The cocktails were very good and they have a large selection of bottled beer. A perfect combination to many of the enticing menu items. I look forward to my next visit. My only negative critique is both my partners and my own meal were served lukewarm. They were busy and I'll hope next time for hot off the grill food. read more

This was an absolutely lovely place to go to for Sunday brunch in Downtown Statesville. They don't take reservations unfortunately, but our party of three was able to be seated in about 12 minutes. I love the photos of historic downtown on the walls--this restaurant is where the old hotel used to be. The service was also great--they kept on checking in on us/refilling our glasses of sweet tea throughout the meal. They also use Square as the payment system--so no worries about it being cash only or anything. The menu had a ton of options in case you're coming in with a picky eater! They had 7 daily specials and on weekends, they do $2.50 mimosas! Amazing. I ordered the Charleston Shrimp omelette with grits and a Cinnamon Raisin bagel, as well as a glass of sweet tea and a caramel apple mimosa (these were $4). The food was delicious--it was a lot for only $11! I couldn't finish the grits/the other half of the bagel. My friends also finished their meals and liked them (Biscuits & Gravy and the other person ordered the Charleston Shrimp too). I would also totally recommend the caramel apple mimosa--I love that they put a cinnamon sugar rim on the flute. I will say that the sweet tea was pretty sweet, just a heads up! read more

We were in the area and thanks to Google and Yelp for finding this place. It's relatively small but has limited outside seating as well. We were seated promptly and service was pleasant and quick. The menu has some great breakfast options. I opted for the breakfast burrito and got a side of waffles with strawberries and real maple syrup. My wife had a veggie omelette. The food was very fresh and the portion size excellent. The flavor of the burrito was perfect. I wished I lived closer because I would definitely come back. Highly recommended. read more

The service was good. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted, from a distance, and pointed to a table for us to sit at. I ordered the chicken and biscuits. They were good but nothing to write home about. My wife and I daughter got the waffles and also said they were ok. The real downer for me was the dish-ware. My chicken and waffle was served on a paper plate. My daughter was given a disposable plastic plate and my wife got a reusable plastic plate. We all got paper straws that didn't last long in the drinks. My daughter's was fully unusable before she finished her milk, so we had to ask for another one, at which they brought us a plastic straw. So we were confused by the inconsistency in the dishes and utensils they used. If you're just looking for somewhere to eat, this place would do fine. But we will probably look for somewhere else to eat next time. read more

We stopped for a night in Statesville . I found this gem via maps and we had a wonderful brunch! I had the salmon and grits and my husband had the gravy and biscuits. Both were delicious!! This review is based on my experience from March 2, 2023. Very small restaurant. Great atmosphere and a friendly staff. Love the menu and everything looks good. Hard a hard time deciding on what to order. Couldn't decide if I wanted breakfast or lunch. Had to try the Cuban Sandwich ...... I am a Cuban Sandwich snob ..... it was a good sandwich don't get me wrong. BUT it was not what I would classify as a traditional Cubano Sandwich (all due respect to the restaurant staff). You need a good, solid mustard (no mustard was on the sandwich that I tasted) and more pork on the sandwich, a little more spice to the pork, more pickle per bite, and good solid cheese. That being said ... it was a good meal (hey, it was a good sandwich ... just not what I would call a traditional Cubano .. but that's me), good price (very good value for money) and a very nice place to eat. Staff were great and I was impressed by the menu. If you are traveling through the area, this is a place you need to stop and try. Maybe a little hard to find BUT it is worth the effort. Stop by and say 'hey' ... this is a jewel worth finding for those looking for a unique food experience. read more

I would have opted for "free" because they took their time lol. The waitresses were bouncing around like ping pong balls and I get it to a certain extent. It's a small space that looked to have a small kitchen with one cook. If you are looking for fast and customer service that ain't happening. The chicken and waffles I had was pretty good. I also noticed one particular waitress essentially training bussers on the fly and acting as the hostess and covering multiple tables. She was bouncing all over the place. She told my friend and I a 30 minute wait for a table for two, and that was a gross overestimation because we got seated like 2 to 3 minutes. I could overlook all that if the food was excellent but it was just good not great. No glassware and plastic cups and I got zero asks for refills. read more

A coworker told me about this gem. I've eaten there 3 times and plan to make it a weekly venture as to work my way through the menu.Typically, I go after the lunch rush, so it's not crowded. So far I have had the Cuban sandwich- it was ok, the Blackberry smash-absolute deliciousness! Today was sweet tea chicken chunks. Good sized pieces, not over- breaded - delicious! What a great little place to eat in Statesville. Food is really fresh, home made, & comes out hot! Friendly, efficient service in a welcoming clean cafe. It was hard to choose from the menu which offers traditional items with a creative upscale twists. My Crab Eggs Benedict was yummy. You could hear the fresh spinach crunch. John's Pepper Sausage Biscuits were to his liking but he wished it had a tad more pepper in the sauce. He added table pepper to his own liking. Don't expect to be served. I noticed several week's ago a new restaurant named Bristols was moving into what used to be Diane's. Open within the last couple of days so I decided to give it a shot. I must admit that the interior has been completely redone and and s quite attractive as is the exterior. If your expectations in a restaurant include service, you might look elsewhere. Walked in about 12:15 today which is June 15.. They did have a pretty good lunch crowd which included one rather large party who were enjoying themselves. Still there were empty tables available but no sign instruction someone to seat themselves. I made eye contact with the lady in the back but did not good. The gentleman on the floor never once turned around to gauge traffic. He spent the entire time in a conversation with a couple of the patrons. Bottom line is after standing there for two minutes, I left. I will admit I violated one of my policies in that I visited a restaurant before they get the bugs worked out. This one has many bugs to address and I will be back in a couple of months but if they continue treating customers like noted above, they may not be there. read more
