Lake Ridge Golf Course is one of the best hidden gems for anyone who wants to sharpen their iron game. It's a nine-hole par-3 course, so you're not coming here to bomb drivers all day, but that's the beauty of it. Every hole forces you to dial in your short and mid-irons, and for anyone from beginner to intermediate level, that's exactly the practice you need. They do have a small range where you can pull out the driver if you want to warm up, so you're not missing out completely. I know some reviews out there throw shade at the course, but honestly, for the price and the skill level it's aimed at, it's perfect. It's affordable, peaceful, and the layout is exactly what you want when you're trying to build consistency instead of pretending you're on the PGA Tour. I'm already looking forward to the season kicking off again so I can grab a membership. Huge shoutout to Sophia, too. She helped me and my foursome out and was genuinely one of the coolest people working at any course I've been to. Super friendly, patient, and made the whole visit smoother. 2 stars for one of the worst-kept golf courses in the DMV area. I am really writing this review in response to all of the positive reviews I've seen on Yelp and on golf websites like Golfpass. I try to base decisions on reviews and hope that others do the same based on mine, so I want to give a full picture view of this course. My wife and I were planning to play Burke Lake recently and decided to check out Lake Ridge to warm up, especially considering the 9 hole round would cost about $20. Located on Cotton Mill Drive in Woodbridge, my wife and I arrived to the course to see your pretty standard parking lot and public course club house. I went to check in and, when I mentioned my tee time since we were a little early, the man behind the register didn't really want to talk. He just told me to go out and start playing, so we did. What we found, on a 9 hole par 3 course that costs about the same as the Red Course at East Potomac, was a course that had been completely neglected. There were no real bunkers or even greens for a lot of holes. Very little in terms of signage or organization. It really felt like we were playing golf in a field. I get that the whole "you get what you pay for" idea, but the conditions were more in the range of a $5 course as you will in fact lose money from losing balls in these conditions. The most interesting part honestly was the 9th hole (where there is no actual exit from the course, but rather you just walk up a big hill) where I had to go over some hanging branches to a hole that felt like it was sitting on a cliff. I actually made the shot and birdied the hole, which was at least something positive out of the round. Unfortunately, it took over an hour to get to that hole as the gentleman in front of us with his young son had no interest in keeping any type of pace or letting us play through. I wouldn't expect a ranger at a course like this and would say bringing a kid to learn golf makes sense here, but it just made our experience even worse to the point we considered walking off half way through. Overall, Lake Ridge Golf Course is absolutely not worth the drive from anywhere outside of the Woodbridge area. While the price is pretty low (I occasionally see Golfnow deals for even less), the dreadful conditions make this a hard to even consider as a warm up course. You should really only consider going here if you are helping a young person learn the game of golf or you really just want a little more structure in your walk rather than strolling in a park. read more

Even long irons are not needed so it makes it difficult to get the full golf experience with only short par 3 holes. Course is managed well and fun for some year round chipping practice. I was here on a Sunday afternoon to try foot golf for the first time and really enjoyed it. The course is smaller so no carts and you can easily walk it. It's off a main road back by some townhomes and office parks so it's quiet and wasn't crowded at all when I went mid afternoon. This was my first foot golf attempt so not sure how challenging it was but I was able to get a birdie on one hole so I'll take that as a win. Prices aren't bad either, $10 a person for 9 holes (9 hole course) plus $3 to rent a soccer ball and for $4 or so you can also check out their pretty challenging mini golf course. I'll be back here for foot golf again and maybe I'll try their regular golf sometime too. The staff is REALLY friendly so check this place out. read more

This thing is shoehorned into the apartment complexes surrounding the lake. You could walk the entire 9-hole course with a 7-iron, a pitching wedge, and your putter. Leave your other clubs at home, especially your drivers. That way they won't taunt you while you're on this course. read more

Pros: Cheaper than most. Holes not on top of each other. Outdoorsy. This course is perfect for when you get off work early and need to sneak in some quick club time before going home. You can definitely get through this Par 3, 9 hole course in an hour and some change. The layout is nice for a par 3 which make it a bargain at $13... until you get up on the green. Unfortunately, the greens here have taken a turn for the worse over the years. On an easy 7 foot putt, I watched my ball bounce around like a pinball machine. This is definitely a good course for beginners learning how to approach but more seasoned golfers should beware. read more

I mistakenly booked a tee time at this golf course online. I immediately called the golf shop and was told they would refund the $24. Nothing. I called the golf course general manager and left a message. I heard nothing. I wrote a letter on October 10 requesting the refund, and again nothing. REALLY read more

Greens are beat up. No golf carts. Bring bug spray. Cheap, so you get what you pay for. Way too many bugs, I left after 4. I'm used to belmont bay, but they're expensive, but worth it compared to this course. Don't come here if you're good at golfing. read more

Great walk, but it's up and down every hole. It was a nice short course to mess around on. The price was right also. The greens were really nice, except for a few hard landing spots and golfers who don't fix their landing divots. The only detractors was the foot golf family in front of us was so slow. I enrolled my son in the First Tee program and the coaches and staff are wonderful. Coach Billy is great with the kids. It is very well organized and exposed my son to many different aspects of golf. I highly recommend not only for parents looking to expose their kids to golf, but for any for parents looking to get their kids outside and active. read more

Let give a more current review of this course since the last one was in 2011. This is an absolutely beautiful course nestled in to the woods in Lake Ridge Park. Since the last review in 2011, the course maintenance has improved the greens 100%. The greens are absolutely beautiful. This is a short par 3, 9 hole course that is great for short game practice as well as beginners learning how to play. The two longest holes are 171 and 178 (I play from the blue tees because of the short distance). The shortest hole is about 50 yards. The tee boxes, fairways, greens and the grounds in general well maintained now and beautifully kept. The staff at the pro shop is awesome, friendly, and helpful! I enjoyed playing Lake Ridge Golf Course while bringing my sons with me to spend time with them and teach them the game of golf. The course condition was always good during our outings, and the walk enjoyable. I recommend coming out during the week as weekends are always busy. This is a 7 and 9 iron, pitching wedge, and putter course. The staff is friendly and the immediate surroundings at Lake Ridge Park are beautiful. I live just down the road and this little course is a gem in our community! I love that I can get out and knock it around for an hour and be home for dinner. The course is wide for a par 3. You can get away with carrying only a few clubs and have a terrific time. The shop is spartan, so don't expect all the amenities of a traditional pro shop, but for a few bucks, you can't beat it! It is a par 3 course so no motorized carts, but they do have pull carts (a great way to get in your daily steps). read more

Despite the previous reviews, this course is great to work on your short game. It's a walking course, therefore no golf carts. So, if you hate walking, then this course isn't for you. Most players either use push/pull carts, carry their bags or simply carry 4-5 clubs (GW/SW, PW, Putter, 6 or 7 iron and 8 or 9), drivers are not necessary. Price is reasonable for the greens and its tiny netted range ($4 for large bucket, $2 for a small). During the summer, I would recommend bug spray, as with any other course in the NOVA/DC/MD area, gnats and other insects will be plentiful. read more

I started playing this course a few weeks ago and have now played it about five rounds. While it is a perfect beginner's course (I took my daughter there for her first round ever), playing here has helped me with my short irons and putting. I am not a long hitter like some others who have left comments, so I tend to use a gap wedge, pitching wedge, 9, 8, 7, 6 irons, and a 4-5 rescue off the tee for the 172 yard holes (longest on the course). Hitting from the different tees (blue and white) can vary the distance by as much as 20-30 yards, so one can use different approaches to the green. I intend to go back and practice my chip and roll which is useful when playing link type courses in Texas where I generally play with my brothers. The course also has some challenging bunkers, so I have gotten some practice with bunker shots. The greens, while not truly challenging allow beginners and golfers like me to really work on controlling speed and distance. The only other comment I might add on the greens is that way too many people do not fix their ball marks. Overall, I would say that it is a pretty course and a great place to go if you want to improve your short game, or if you are a beginner just learning to control your clubs.
