East Potomac is a classic mixed bag--the potential and location are incredible, but the facility is definitely showing its age. For those unfamiliar, the complex has three setups: the 18-hole Blue Course (regulation length where you can take a cart), the 9-hole White Course (an executive mix of par 3s and 4s), and the 9-hole Red Course, which is a walking-only par-3 loop. They also have a busy two-tier driving range and plenty of flat putting areas. If you are brand new to the game and do not have your own set yet, they make it easy by letting you borrow clubs, making it a very welcoming entry point for beginners. We played the Red Course on a Saturday morning ($20/person) and ran into some serious pacing hiccups. After starting about 15 minutes past our 8:00 AM tee time, we ended up waiting on literally every hole, dragging a short 9-hole walk out to an hour and a half. The compact routing is also pretty dicey safety-wise--the tee boxes sit right next to the greens, and we nearly took stray balls to the face twice, so you really have to keep your head on a swivel. Conditions were rough around the edges with mostly flat greens, rock-hard sand in the bunkers after the previous night's rain, bird droppings all over the grounds, and a main clubhouse building that feels noticeably run-down. Despite the rough shape, the setting is hard to beat. Being right on the water at Hains Point with planes flying overhead, cyclists looping the park, and The Wharf right across the river for post-round lunch gives it a great local vibe. There has been a lot of talk and planning around major overhauls and restorations for the course through the National Park Service and National Links Trust, and it honestly desperately needs that refresh. If the planned renovations eventually bring the drainage, clubhouse, and course layouts up to standard, this place could easily become a world-class municipal gem. For now, it is a fun, casual spot for a cheap practice round as long as you know what to expect. read more

I love calling East Potomac my home course. It's convenient to reach if you're coming from VA, PGC, or downtown DC; they have plenty of tee times available; the clubhouse has great food; and they have three putting greens and a driving range with Toptracer technology. East Potomac has a course for everyone no matter their skill level or time commitment. They offer a 9-hole Par 3 (Red course), 9-hole (White course), and a 18-hole (Blue course) course that are all enjoyable to play and are manageable for even beginners to play. The pace of play is usually good, but on a nice day you might run into a bit of a delay (worst I've seen is about 10-15min behind). The greens and tee boxes aren't always in the best condition, but they're maintained fairly well on all three courses that it won't throw off your game. For the cost of play, it's hard to beat the value you get from playing at East Potomac. ALSO, I always forgot that they have a newly renovated mini golf course if you're looking for something a little more lighthearted to play. read more

Located on Hains Point, the views of the National Mall and Arlington across the river are beautiful, especially for sunrise and sunset. The course is well maintained, comes with a cafe, parking, and more. Another plus is the mini golf, the oldest in the entire country! I am beginner golfer. This is a great course for beginners. Course is pretty straight with very few hazards. Hardly any bunkers and water hazards. It's a great place to learn. Since it's a links course, even if you miss your fairway and slice or hook 70 yards, you still find and play your ball. They have ball cleaners in most of the holes. Not very well maintained though. I wish they could fill it with cleaner water. They also have drinking water in a couple of holes. Pro shop is nice. Restaurant is decent too. Gets the job done. This is my go to course in DC. It's cheaper than the other courses. read more

We only did the mini golf - $15 per adult, not terrible & pleasantly surprised with the availability of parking. Not sure if this is a common occurrence but it was wildly windy when we went so be prepared! The green felt is completely brand new but there was still a bit of debris on the course & I am kind of surprised that there's very little decor to it. Exhibits every stereotype you've ever heard about public golf courses. East Potomac has gotten progressively worse each time I've visited to the point where the courses have become unplayable due to a total lack of positive control and zero enforcement of any rules and regulations and a total disregard for norms and standards you'd find at any decent private or semi-private club. Some of the most wild antics I've seen over the past year of coming here 5. Two singles using their own seperate golf carts on the Par 3 Red Course where the longest distance is somewhere between 190-210 yards. Do you even need to ask me if they drove on the greens? 4. A guy on the 9 Hole White Course using it as his own little practice course. Myself and the guy behind me had to skip the hole because he wouldn't move, and we're not going to try to hit him. Guy was teeing up about 5 different balls every 50-100 yards. 3. You will see multiple people who just walk on the course and have clearly not paid their green fees. They get in between people's tee times or just take over your tee time. I cannot tell you how many times I've had randos walk on the same hole as me, sometimes right in the middle of the course, and just start playing like they're my buddy. The starter and pro shop won't talk to them, so you can essentially steal tee times and nobody will stop you. If you're short on cash, you might as well, because nobody here GAF. 2. My wife and I were hit in to by two guys playing the Blue Course, we were on the Red Course. When I saw a ball land 5 feet in front of me I thought a kid from the kids camp in the practice area hit it, so I tried to return it to them. One of the lunatic guys playing the blue course drove his cart on to the Red Course screaming to drop his ball, he then proceeded to play it 5 feet in front of the Red Hole 1 tee box. 1. I was threatened with physical violence on the course with a guy waving his club at me telling me he was going to hit me (seperate incident). The starter wasn't interested in following up, and the pro shop said they'd talk to him, which may or may not have happened, bet is on nothing happening. You should consider the above before booking a tee time here. They're undergoing renovations, so the course is actually getting nicer, but the quality of patron here is downright nasty, and that's hard to stand out as an truly awful person in a place like DC. I did not cover the value. The value is good, but I will never give them another cent of my money. read more

If I could give this course a zero I would. it has no redeeming features whatsoever. the only thing I could say is that they should categorise this as a novice course only, for brand new players. it's basically a chip and putt. To begin with, the amount of 'sneakers on' and groups of two or more playing with one set of clubs between them was outrageous. then you have those who play 2 or 3 balls each time, not worried about the groups of players stacked up behind waiting to play. Secondly, the course is so closely laid out that you're having to watch both sides for errant balls that are flying dangerously around everywhere, because.. people who know how to play wouldn't be coming to this course, so it's just a free for all. The majority of people obviously have no clue about etiquette, we watched someone hitting an iron off the green twice, creating an absolute mess of the green, people wandering in front of players ready to tee off because their ball had ended up in some random location, not a care in the world as they saunter all over the place. There is no Marshall, so the play was ridiculously slow (it took us almost as long as it would an 18 hole) at one stage today we were 5 groups stacked waiting behind a 3 ball who kept replaying their shots. The starter is neither helpful or friendly and when I gave feedback to the starter and pointed to a group of young guys right next to the hut about the tee off who had obviously snuck on .. his response was "yeah, it happens a lot". well it would do with that attitude. The course is an absolute joke and anyone who has even a tiny bit of experience should avoid it like the plague. read more

I've been taking lessons here for the last couple of months. Coach Par and Coach Lauren have made learning golf so much fun. I've taken so many golf lessons and I've never had my game improve so much. I highly recommend requesting one of them for your lessons. The facilities are pretty good for a public course. The cafe has drinks, cigars, quick and tasty food. The driving range has top flight technology which is really nice at such a low cost. This is a great place to hone your skills. I am new to golf, but my boyfriend has been playing for over 20 years and we both enjoy using this range. It is covered, and heated for use in the winter and fall. The technology is accurate in the measurement of the shots. The putting green is well maintained. The pro shop is well stocked. Is it perfect? No. But the updates and changes the National Links Trust have made to this place are amazing. I have played the Blue, White, and Red courses regularly this fall. The Blue Course is it's longest. Good mix of holes but the terrain is flat and so are the greens, especially on the front 9. The White Course is my favorite. It's short and doesn't include any par 5s, but the greens are mostly elevated and they have more slope to them and are more interesting in general. It will test your wedge game for sure. The Red Course is a really solid par 3 course. Holes range from 115-210 yards. Great for my school's middle school team or anyone with a beginner. The turf on each of the courses has been firm and fast this fall. The bunkers are thin on each course, but then again the water level can't be deep enough to dig further down. But the views are incredible and the location can't be beat. The true highlight here are the staff. As a high school and middle school golf coach, Amy and her team have been a dream to work with each week. With both teams we have often had last minute changes, and they are responsive and helpful in every way. The staff in the pro shop and the starters have also been helpful. Lastly, Mike McCartin, Will Smith, Damian Cosby, Jeff Arnold, and Chris Burns are all people on NLT's team I have spoken with during various events at East Potomac. Each show their passion and knowledge of their various projects. I am impressed with their work so far! read more

If you're looking for a spot near DC / Arlington VA to practice your swings, this is a nice spot nestled in between the two locations. When I went, there was a good amount of parking still left on a Sunday summer afternoon. It was my first time going, so it was a little confusing on where to go, but thankfully a friend directed us where to go. There is food at the East Potomac Golf Links, and a trailer that serves alcoholic beverages, but I didn't opt in. The driving range itself was pretty nice. Since it was hot and sunny with thunderstorms in the forecast, we opted for the lower level. In case if there are puddles for mosquitoes to dwell in the bay, be sure to bring some bug repellent of choice! Price range for practice balls: ~$18 for 136 practice balls ~$10 for 68 practice balls I loved the Top Tracer tech. It really gives you an idea of how far your carry was and the distance. (Honestly I'm still trying to mentally figure out how it works). I've added a video of my partner's swing with the tech. Definitely would go again: Reasonable and near by! read more

I haven't been out to the golf course since they added tracer tech to the driving range. What's weird is some of the lower bays are right hand golfers only because of the position they installed the screens. They have heat for the winter too. The new management has clearly put some money to upgrading the putting greens, tee boxes, course maintenance and driving range. I'm glad to see this at the DC Course with the best on Course views in the city. I look forward to returning. read more

The putting green is also really nice and kept in pretty good shape throughout the summer. The only real negative is that with all of the improvements, it's very busy most nights and weekends. AVOID LESSONS: Amazingly poor "pro". I hadn't taken a lesson in a very long time so wanted a refresher on basics. Shortly after the end of my one hour lesson I had blisters on my left hand (I'm right handed) - because he GUIDED ME TO AN INCORRECT GRIP for the entire hour. I distinctly remember saying "I thought my fingers were supposed to overlap at a certain point". No, that's not correct he said and proceeded to guide me to an incorrect grip for my entire hour. Great course for near DC + Arlington. Driving range is open year round (heaters in the winter) which is unique to the area. Course is definitely not the nicest you'll ever play, but definitely bang for your buck + super convenient to the city. I'd say hit or miss if crowded and backed up. I've been getting to East Potomac GC lately as my usual course has been redoing its driving range. I find the facilities in good condition, the pro shop well stocked and everyone really nice. I like that the driving range has around a hundred bays and if you wanna drive some balls in winter, you can turn on the overhead heaters. East Potomac houses the second oldest miniature golf course in the country and the putting green is first come, first serve. The golf course is open year-round but remember it can get busy on weekends during warm season. read more

There was an apple core and soda bottles left in the driving range where we practiced; plus there was some trash on the grounds and the floor of the women's bathroom. 4 stars for a fun casual course. My wife and I play 9 holes most weekends at East Potomac Golf Course. Located on Ohio Drive in a big fun area with tennis, biking, and lots of outdoor things to do in general (which is great during the COVID pandemic), the golf course is a great spot close to the District to play some golf. When we want to play, we book our tee time online. The venue has 3 separate course (red, white, and blue) that varies in length and difficulty. We usually play the red course, which is a 9 hole par 3 course, because we can get up and down through it in a little over an hour and it only costs about $15 a person to play. We often get there about 30 minutes early to hit some balls at the driving range (decent range with some great prices on a bucket of balls) and then walk up to the starter to get going. In terms of the course itself, it has some great views of the monuments and the river as you play. What prevents it from being a 5 star place is the fact that maintenance is sometimes lacking and the drainage isn't great, so you can deal with some unexpected water features. On the upside, the course isn't usually terribly packed in the morning (e.g. around 8) and it is easy to keep spaced out and play at a nice easy pace despite the sometimes rough conditions. The red and white courses are meant more for the casual player, so those of you shooting mostly pars throughout your round should look to the blue course or maybe at a little farther out of the city. Overall, the East Potomac Golf Course is a great place to hit some balls and get outside for some fun without traveling out of town. If you are looking to take up some golf, give this place a look. read more

Maybe James and I hit this place on an 'off day'. It was Sunday and it had rained extensively the previous few days. Everyone knows that parts of DC were swampland right? All the courses were wet. Very wet according to the club pro. We decided on hitting some balls from the double decker driving range. You know this place is on some high rent real estate. Right next to the DC Wharf with views of the Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument. You also get the jet noise from Reagan National and the frequent whistle from the nearby train. It's not the Country Club and not quite Bushwood but it does have a great location going for it and it's affordable. read more

This is a great public park for casual golfing with beautiful views of the Washington monument and new District Wharf. There's a parking lot on site so it's easy to drive to, and since it's a public course the prices are pretty reasonable. The course is a bit beat up (unclear if it's partly because the seasons have only recently changed or if they just don't emphasize upkeep), but overall it's acceptable given the price. 18 holes can be a bit much unless you're really a golfer, but I'd recommend 9 holes for a fun outing with friends for a couple hours. Note to the staff - I generally don't mind the condition of the course but the dead cut grass on hole 9 of the red course needs to be addressed. It significantly interferes with the play of the hole and makes it incredibly difficult to locate your ball. read more

Disclaimer: I'm not a serious golfer. But this course definitely has a lot to offer with great views, several stalls for the driving range, and even foot golf! I only frequent this course with my boyfriend who is an experienced golfer, but I haven't been on the course since I would say the main downside that I've experienced is that spectators are not allowed without paying. I was a little surprised at this thinking that a lot of wives or children could come along but are likely deterred for this reason. The staff is generally helpful and we haven't had any bad experiences yet. There are a couple putting areas which are nice to practice on and we always make a stop there and it's never too crowded. read more
