Entrance upon arriving to Lake Road Inn

1st time at Lake Road inn. It was Sunday Feb 4th. My wife and I walked in and immediately liked the vacation like atmosphere. Sit down at the bar where they had very friendly staff working ordered appetizers which were very good and drinks were very reasonable. We continued over to the slot machine area, which could've been a lot cleaner. We played for a little bit and had a few more drinks before heading out. I would recommend this place to friends and family for sure.

    Appetizers!

After a nice interval run, stopped by here for a quick drink. Service and food were amazing. I'm hooked and will be a regular!

Fried Bluegill Dinner - fried perfectly so you could still taste the fish.

As an out of town-er, Lake Road Inn is a must stop each time we visit Bloomington. Friday Fish Frys are fantastic! This is a chill, fun place to hang out, have a few drinks, grab a bite and enjoy yourself.

This family-friendly alehouse prioritizes local partnerships and menu creativity, earning its place as a surprise standout in central Illinois' dining scene. Culinary Highlights The menu shines with elevated bar classics, including Ropp Jersey Cheese curds sourced from Normal, Illinois. ~a crispy, creamy nod to regional agriculture.  Wings tossed in bourbon-Sriracha glaze and lemon-pepper buffalo rub draw regulars, while the Italian beef sandwich, paired with sweet potato fries and maple mayo, offers a sweet-savory twist. The showstopper is the custom steak-blend burger: certified Angus beef smashed on a brioche bun, smothered in American cheese, and served with loaded fries-a "step above" typical pub fare. Surprise Standout Culinary Chronicles' sleeper hit is the maple mayo dip, a sweet-smoky companion to crispy sweet potato fries. While rumors swirl about its cult following, the dip exemplifies The Local Tap's knack for balancing familiarity with innovation. It was fine, though the cocktail sauce could have used a little more horseradish. The basket of warm bread and whipped butter was great. And The salads were excellent (we went for a standard greens salad and a Caesar salad). For the main dish, we each ordered a bacon wrapped filet, medium rare, with Brussels sprouts. The filets were prepared as directed, but seemed dry, tough and flavorless. Disappointed. But worse was the Brussels sprouts (one of our favorites). The sprouts were hard, woefully undercooked and crunchy. Not in a good way. The flavor was lost in the rough texture. Very disappointed. The staff seemed a little flustered too. Brought a side a sautéed onions when we'd ordered mushrooms. Too bad, as we had enjoyed our pasta meals before and had expected a steakhouse to perform better.

So we've been coming here since it opened and in fact had been to its predecessor in St. Louis…read morebefore that. We're pretty familiar with what they used to, and are trying, to be and while we have come to expect lofty goals, it seems like the longer in the tooth this place gets, the more they lose focus. Our most recent Valentines visit reinforced this with some disappointing bar service and a 'special featured' appetizer that took our disappointment to the next level. I get that on a busy night like Valentines, stuff happens, but in this case it was still relatively early (5:30 pm) and they had more than enough employees, it's just that those workers constantly stepped on each other, ignored customers for lengthy stretches, and missed a few details that used to come naturally at this place. Combine that with food delivery confusion and a complete fail on the supposed special feature of "sealed scallops with risotto" app and it left us feeling unfulfilled on what should have been a romantic visit. The next time they offer the scallop app, we strongly suggest they actually do more than wave one side of the scallop over a lukewarm-warm pan (nothing that resembles a 'sear') and figure a way to cut the greasiness of the garlic rice dollops without covering everything in pea tendrils such that you don't notice the lack of sear marks and oily pooling. We give the place three stars based on the still modern and comfortable decor, nice ambiance, robust cocktail & beer selection and the execution of the Tuna Tartare - still one of the lady's favorite bites in town. Perhaps it's just a management/training issue, but it touches both the kitchen and the floor and will hopefully be addressed before our next visit.

The sourdough bread and butter were exceptionally good as was the hamachi crudo with coconut milk and flavored herbal oil. The lamb appetizer was perfectly cooked although I'd have traded in the pomegranate molasses component for something not as sweet. I ordered the ribeye with beef tallow fries. Both were very flavorful although a little heavy on salt. My companion ordered the sea bass, which was very very good and we wound up splitting a slice of a fruit tart (also excellent). I'm taking a star off for heavy-handed salting but I'd definitely go back. The place definitely has ambience and is located on historic Rte 66. Nice town too

Last night I took my college-aged kids and wife here for my birthday. It was the 4th time I've been and was by far the worst experience. We started w oysters and they were great--both kinds. My kids and I ordered iced teas and got glasses full of ice w a little bit of really watery iced tea. Next were the fries--pretty good but the "aioli" was just mayo w a dash of lemon -- diff than last time. The carrots were also pretty good, but the flavors didn't all come together. We asked for a refill on iced tea and were told "the bar just 86'd iced tea for the night". ??The restaurant seemed discombobulated. The lamb ribs were cooked really well but didn't have much flavor. Our waiter never came by 1x to ask about or food, and when clearing plates never wiped up spilled food from the table. Had high hopes for the main entrees (lemon pasta and halibut w beurre blanc). All of our entrees came to the table lukewarm. The lemon pasta was oily and a little clumpy and didn't taste great. The halibut was overcooked and the beurre blanc had little to no taste. Super disappointing. If this was the first time I had been there I wouldn't go back.

We had to ask for extra sauce, and they were missing the sour cream that was shown in the menu picture. The portions were also very small for the price. The service was extremely slow. It took about 15 minutes before our server came to take our drink orders, and our food took a long time to arrive. We also had issues with a coupon that wouldn't scan. The server had to get the manager, who said she couldn't honor it because it was " old and too big of a discount" even though it was on the app and only offered us $2 off instead. We also had a $5 gift card that was forgotten when the bill was brought out, and we had to ask for the manager again to have it corrected. Overall, this was a frustrating experience with slow service, disappointing food, and unnecessary issues at checkout. Unfortunately, this visit did not live up to the experiences we've had here in the past. And people came in way after us and left way before us so we don't know why they were not taking care of our table.
