A walking trail/bike path that goes around the entire lake.

Thanks to yelp I found this gem of a park! Situated in NW Hillsborough county, this beautifully protected area boasts a walking trail around the lake. It looks longer than it actually is (only 2.2 miles) but a great hike for the causal walker. I've been here a few times with my daughter in tow and have really enjoyed ourselves. The trees have been saved and they're in abundance, which is great! There are picnic benches scattered along the trail, so pack a lunch, bring your walking shoes and enjoy this little gem.

This is a great little park for a relaxing stroll or picnic. There is a water station for people and dogs with ice cold water. The trails run around the lake and some through wooded areas. The wooded areas are pretty shady but the lake trail is very hot with little relief from the sun. There are lots of shady picnic tables and nice places to enjoy a meal. It does cost to enter this park which is a drawback, but it is maintained so well that you can feel better about where that money goes. There are usually a ton of butterflies everywhere to watch and I've seen lots of turtles. You can bring your kayak or canoe and go out on the lake, but there is no shade on the water so I would recommend saving that activity for the cooler months. Overall, this isn't the best park around but it is worth a visit to check it out at least once.

I went to walk with my pooch and WE loved it ! 2 1/2 miles of Nature trails! Peaceful all I saw was God's wonderful creation, 1 water station, parking 2 bucks seating for lake view a little maintenance from the county this park would be a wonderful place for family gathering Enjoy your nature walk!

Great spot for dog walking and hiking. Signage on the trails is 'iffy' so expect to find yourself 'mislaid' on occasions!

Used to party out here in the 80's. Went by another name though. Nice quiet place to relax now.

If I lived nearby I'd keep it that way because this Hillsborough county park was an unexpected find that I thought was a beaut. At first glance, a small parking lot, playground and pavilion isn't much. However, once on the hiking trail a nice boardwalk with benches goes over a large lake. I used a trail guide from a QR code that led me to a Hillsborough park website to help me navigate because most signs in the park are colored posts and colors on trees indicating the path the hiker is on. I didn't see any signs indicating where paths went or their distance once at the park When I visited Lake Dan Preserve, I went straight (over the bridge/boardwalk) and took the second left (the red trail) and a few feet down is a picturesque lake that would make a great back drop for photos or an amazing place to relax by a small pond. Turn right and go down the yellow trail and you can hike into neighbouring Lake Francis Preserve. I choose to vear off and hike the connecting blue trail. The blue trail goes down a gravel road into several large open pastures. I must've said this is gorgeous 15 times. A short time later the trail turns as the back side of Trinity starts to come into view in the distance. As the path continues, it leads to Lake Dan and a fishing pier. It's basically a shorter version of the park's entrance bridge looking out a vibrant and large lake. Birds, fish and some cows mooing in the distance makes the pier a nice place to relax. Although, I can't imagine hiking that distance to find it crowded. When I visited Lake Dan my car was the only one in the parking lot and I didn't see another person inside the park. I plan on visiting this preserve again as I thought some it's views we're nice enough to be back drops in movie scenes. It's wide open spaces and lack of people inside made it's trails an excellent place to enjoy a peaceful hike.
