Sooo I've been to this loop a few times to walk/jog prior to today 07'04'20 and always referred to…read moreit as the Quarry Loop but today I discovered that this location has a totally separate entrance from the homes and shopping/dining area and has its own identity, pretty neat. There are benches scattered throughout that are facing inward toward the lake, some with amazing views and a few obstructed by the trees & greenery but still serene spots to just sit, relax & chat or just take in the scenery. The trail/loop is a little under 2 miles in total and it offers great views, some flowers here and there and loads of geese. I've never experienced it being overly crowded with people on the loop and the atmosphere is very peaceful. I will continue to frequent this park. Oh and if it ever gets too hot while out there, you can always pop into Rita's Italian Ice or Custard ;-)

Also, park in no parking spots and drive their vehicle through the grass lots where the waterfowl graze to eat. The waterfowl, ducks, geese live at the park, have respect for them, if not trash your own property. If you feed the animals, don't give them bread it is bad for them. If you don't believe so Google it. If you happen to be someone who has the no care, no respect attitude and think you are above it all, don't visit the park. Most respect the park and want it to thrive for years to come so the children can enjoy it.

Since retiring, I've been hitting up every outdoor space on my list. I came to walk the trail(s), but one visit is simply not enough. I see that now. I'll definitely have to come back on my bike to get the lay of the land. Random, but everytime I come to this park, my GPS takes me on a tour of the neighborhood when I can see the park is RIGHT THERE. Anyway, I came during the week and parked on a side road inside the park. Again, I'm not really familiar with the best place to park to access whatever it is I'm trying to access. I started walking on the trail and was actually hoping I didn't get lost (even though my Garmin can take me back to my starting point). I asked a woman where to go and she directed me to 'the loop'. The loop will work for today! Apparently the loop was closed due to construction. There's work being done on the water tanks (or something like that). But the loop is open, and it's a bit over 1 mile. It's smooth, and I'm already plotting to try it on my bike. But there's absolutely NO SHADE on this portion, so plan accordingly. From the loop I could see the pool, tennis courts, and basketball courts, so I made my way there, via a trail. Again, the park is huge! From my research, it's the third oldest established park in the United States! Whoa! And, it covers 745 acres of land. Like I said, you'll have to come more than once to see all there is to see. That includes the Baltimore Zoo, which is inside the park. I'll be back on my bike for more recon.

The lake is fenced off preventing you from going to the edge to check out. They did have benches for you to sit down to relax and take in the view. After getting back to my hotel I looked up some info on this place. This was originally a marble quarry which dates back to 1877. In 2005, construction began on the surrounding area which was known as Quarry Lake at Greenspring, mixed residential development and commercial development that includes single family homes, condominiums, shops, restaurants, and office buildings. So in the middle of it all is this lake, which is 500 feet at it's deepest point. In closing, it's a nice lake in a nice location. I came to Patapsco after planning a hike here for my run/walk/hike club. We chose the Cascade Falls…read moreloop trail as it seemed easy for beginner hikers which were a lot of members of my group and like it would not require any extra supplies. We came on a Sunday morning, parking was $2 as our shuttle was an in state vehicle ($4 for out of state!) and when we arrived around 9:30, there was already a decent amount of people at the trailhead parking lot, but we were able to easily park. There is a bathroom located nearby that is clean and has running water. I do think it is relatively well maintained and looked after, though there was 1 stall missing toilet paper. The hike itself was lovely, with fall foliage still around in sight. We did not come across any big wildlife like deer but given the amount of people this made sense. We did use bug spray on our shoes and bottoms of our leggings / ankle area to prevent any ticks. The trail itself was beautiful, there are 2 water crossing areas where you could get by on rocks but I have waterproof hiking shoes and just walked straight through. I would recommend this trail to beginners!

Lake Montebello is a gem in Baltimore City, the lake is clean as is the track around the lake. It's very relaxing to walk/run around the lake and explore the beautiful city neighborhood, Mayfield, which is just east of the lake and one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city. The trails of the park do have quite a bit of trash littered on them, which is unfortunate. Still, it's nice to be able to have a natural setting like the park in a city like Baltimore and, despite the trash, I still like to walk on the trails and admire the Herring Run. I haven't walked the full length of the trails yet but I plan on it when the weather warms up

Meaning it was more dirt paths and weeds/scrubs atleast 10+ years ago. However, they still seem to preserve the natural habits (forest) for the wildlife. This is very very clean.!!! There are benchs along the paths. They have iron fencing in place as well. Parking is not abundant but its in place. And last but not least I did not see any place to potty properly legally. One can run, stroll, bike, walk your pup or sit on the manicured lawn. Please pick your dog poop up and dispose of such. There are poop bag and disposal stations around the path!! One complete lap is 1miles.
