A lovely park on the eastern side of Baltimore. Been wanting to ride a bike here for a while! I enjoyed my time on a lovely Saturday yesterday. Can't recommend enough, and the neighborhood is great. My HS, (City forever!) is here, Herring Run Park, Lake Clifton and the golf course are super close. As others have said, there is no bathroom on the premises but parking is free (at the elementary school near the pavilion). And there are weights and a place to work out and plenty of other people around working out as well. If you want a place to walk, run, ride a bike, workout, sit, have a picnic or roller skate, this is the place for you. read more

One of the most beautiful lakes in Baltimore, MD. I had the pleasure of taking a walk with 200+ women on a Sunday morning and saw some of the most beautiful scenery ever. I was told that this lake had been closed for a while, so once it reopened, the community immediately came together to take a walk. Parking is somewhat easy, but I would recommend parking behind Lake Montebello Elementary School. The lake is patrolled all day, so if you were to walk solo, you would be in good hands. The track loops, but it is even, making it easy to walk, run, or bike. I will definitely be back at this beautiful lake. read more

...nothing I love more than a big ole loop to walk, jog, or bike around. And by now most should know that the LOOP around the lake is finally open (construction is done). Yay! I've run through here before for road races, but the entire loop was always cut off by construction. So I've been wanting to come back to experience Lake Montebello in all its glory! I jogged a few miles, then walked a bit over a mile. But I can't wait to come back on my bike to see how much speed I can get on the loop. It's fairly flat. Bikes cycle clockwise while pedestrians walk/run counterclockwise. I also noticed security with their lights on for awareness. That might make one feel a bit more comfortable. There appears to be plenty of parking, but I came on a week day. There's a parking lot next to a kids playground. There's also some extra street parking. What is LACKING are bathrooms. I actually googled that prior to coming so I could plan accordingly. That's such a shame. I don't understand how or why they couldn't, at the very least, place some portapotty's out there. But, it is what it is. Overall, it's a nice spot to get in some movement, whether it be walking, running, or biking. read more

Nice loop around the lake with plenty of space to walk, run, skate, bike... There were lots of people around, so it felt safe, but I also noticed 2 patrol cars which was nice. There's a playground, a little workout area for pull-ups, dips, situps... I also noticed a small yoga class happening. The lake is close to a cafe I like, so it was nice to get my drink and go back to enjoy the sun and view. Taking 1 star away because there were no restrooms or even a porta potty. read more

I'm always trying to look for new places to run in Baltimore, and I was very pleased at Lake Montebello! The lake has a paved track around it that is approximately 1.3 miles long (I ran 3 laps and got 4 miles) and FLAT. If you wanted, there seemed to be some offshoots from the main track that you could use to lengthen your run/break up the constant laps but I didn't try that. The track is split into two sides so there are two directions people can walk/bike/run in. The scenery was a much needed change from city running - it's CLEAN and my eyes felt so refreshed from all the green and blue from the grass, trees, and water! An added bonus is that during quarantine/social distancing time, the lake is so large that people are adequately spaced out here (vs along the waterfront or Patterson Park) and there is the police car enforcing social distancing with the occasional announcement. Tip: street parking is pretty easy to find along the houses right next to the lake. I will definitely be back! read more

Lake Montebello is the perfect place to go for a brisk walk, train for a run, or just enjoy the scenery and hang out during the summer evenings. I typically go out to Lake Montebello to enjoy a nice run either in the early morning or later in the evening, once the summer sun has cooled a bit. Since I try to stay prepared for different 5ks, it's nice to know that 2 laps around the lake, puts you right around the 3 mile mark. There are plenty of younger and older folks out at Lake Montebello, biking, rollerblading, exercising on the equipment stations, or just blaring their music and vibing. It's also a nice place to hang out and have a little afternoon picnic and just enjoy the day. read more

This one of those things where the people who might read this are not at all the people who it's meant for. That type likely doesn't do a lot of reading. (sadly) Did I not say there are arrows "big honking hard to miss" ones that tell you in which direction to travel based on rather you are walking or biking. Perhaps there is just some Baltimore thing of not following rules. Fantastic park with historic value due to its 100 history of city water. The track around the lake is paved and packed with walkers, bikers, bladers, joggers. Families. Great place to picnic. Some park a car...put out a chair and listen to jazz. The disc golf course is great. Goes into the woods and fields! read more

One of my absolute favorite places in Baltimore City. I live in Parkville so the lake is only a few miles from me. I come there to run or walk and there's usually probably 10-20 other people there. People are respectful to one another, never seems to be any sort of incident when I visit despite being near a couple unsafe neighborhoods. The lake is clean and I've seen anyone litter. Although it's near a couple unsafe neighborhoods there is also one of my favorite city neighborhoods, Mayfield, just to the east of the lake. Beautiful houses, some of which overlook the lake, and well kept lawns make that neighborhood worth exploring! I'd recommend Lake Montebello to anyone! read more

I had no plans of actually coming to this place but because I was unable to find the meeting place for my $5 5k in Herring Run Park, I stumbled upon this place and decided to just do my run here. I was amazed about the size of the lake and the cleanliness of the area. I can't to come back again and especially when it turns to spring. read more

Best place ever! I'm a 5 year veteran to Lake MONTEBELLO. :-) They finally finished the construction that kept us pedestrians from going around the Lake. This is literally the perfect place for everyone. My husband and I joke about one of the exercise areas aptly naming it "Sing Sing". I mean the muscles and attitudes are abound. :-) Then you have the old-timers who make anybody feel like Gladys Knight's fine self. Bikers out here are serious so stay in your respective lanes. :-) This is a great place to tan, bird watch, save a tree, run, walk, people watch, detail a car and get in some Frisbee. My family and I (spouse and 2 sons, 5 and 6 years old) went to Lake Montebello for the first time this afternoon. It was great! The three of them rode their bikes and I skated. The asphalt was nice and even, the whole loop (1.3 miles) was nice and flat. Parts of the loop run alongside the street with no division other than the white line on the road, so keep squirrely kids and animals nearby and/or talk to them about staying within the line ahead of time. There were guys polishing their cars on the far side of the loop, and they had their music up loud, which made the loop all the more fun. Everyone just seemed so happy to be out there. The downsides to the loop have been mentioned in previous reviews--no bathrooms and no water fountains. There are also no spots to stop and take a break along the way, unless you want to sit on the curb. We definitely plan to make Lake Montebello a regular part of our weekends! read more

Not being a Baltimore native, I know how much Baltimore gets a bad rap...I used to talk smack about B-more too... What outsiders don't realize is that the Charm City is truly charming. Its things like Lake Montebello and so many other interesting places and neighborhood that make Baltimore really a great city. Lake Montebello is just absolutely beautiful. The running and biking lanes around the Lake are amazing. Plus the exercise stations are great...encouraging people to be more active. It's clean and new and fresh looking. I just hope that the residents will respect it and help maintain this gem. read more

Lake Montebello in NE Baltimore City has always been a gem. It has always been appreciated by the neighborhoods that surrounded it. I was introduced to Lake Montebello in the late 60's when I attended Baltimore City College and joined the cross country running team. Coach Jerry Nathanson would run us from the school, around the lake, and back to the school. Currently, my wife an I exercise there most mornings, but because of COVID-19, parking and use of the exercise stations are prohibited around the inner perimeter of the lake. It is safe, peaceful, and beautiful. I truly love and appreciate this place. read more

Montebello is two miles from my house, which is a doable trek on foot or bicycle. Early mornings and evenings before sunset are great times to lap the lake, as the crowds are at a minimum. The lake is also adjacent to Herring Run Park, which is a nice place to chill, picnic, or toss a Frisbee. read more

This is a pretty spot in the middle of the city, good for walking, biking, or bringing a picnic. At 7:30pm, there were a fair number of people doing just those things, at least while it was still light out, so it feels pretty safe. My fiancé just finished commenting how weird it was to see "normal" (as opposed to ghetto) people outside when several kids on bikes zoomed up to us, craning their necks around to scream nonsensical ching-chong "Chinese" at us as they whizzed by. Thanks, racist kids. I've had my share of racist behavior from kids growing up, but while I certainly didn't feel scared or threatened here, it was a bit more menacing because I saw them coming from 30 feet away and made eye contact with them as they deliberately came veering into our walking / running lane. It was more annoying than anything, but it did make me briefly consider getting in their way to knock them off their bikes. A nice roundhouse kick might have shut them up, too. The area immediately around the lake is well-maintained, and there are signs asking people to pick up after their pets. However, there is some litter closer to the parking lot. The elementary school right next to the parking lot provides a shaded "pavilion," sans actual seating. The ground there consists of a couple tiers, and the steps make for a nice area to sit and cool down before getting back in the car if you don't want to sit on grass. As it was our first time here, I didn't have a chance to check out the exercise stations yet, but they look like they're in pretty good shape. They even have stationary bikes, which is an upgrade from most public / outdoor exercise stations I've seen. This includes Pepperdine University in California, to the best of my recollection, which is a pricey private university. read more

A walker/runner/biker/pet haven... I have been living in the Baltimore area for all of my life, and just until recently, I have never explored Lake Montebello. With a 5K race that I am currently preparing for, I needed to find a place where I can run freely without the worries of squeaky treadmills and constant traffic lights. I think I have found my default running spot in Lake Montebello. The main reason for me coming here is the 1.37 mile loop that circles around the gorgeous lake itself. There are many people who like to bike, walk, or run around the area so please be cautious and courteous to those who are around. Lake Montebello (and the surrounding area) is fairly clean, so that was a big plus. There are also aerobics machines (No, not the Life Fitness kind), so feel free to use those as well. The one thing that I did not see on my journey was public restrooms. There are buildings that specifically say "No Public Restrooms". Luckily enough I live close by, or we would've had some serious problems. I recommend anyone who likes to go out and enjoy what nature has to offer to come to Lake Montebello. Until I find another place to run, this will be my place of choice. read more

I've lived in Baltimore my entire life and this was the first time I've ever visited Lake Montebello. It was beautiful, well-kept, and very clean. My son loved the playground and together we walked the route around the lake making sure to stop at each of the exercise stations. Everyone was friendly, we only encountered 3 people who must not of noticed the giant arrows guiding to which direction you should walk. My only complaint is there are no restrooms or port-a-pots to use. read more

Lake Montebello is a great place for residents of North Baltimore to walk, run, bike, and exercise. The scenic lake is surrounded by a 1.35 paved road with dedicated lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. Exercise stations can be found at regular intervals. I've spent many hours biking around the lake, but have yet to try the trail down into Herring Run Park. read more

Nothing special about the lake, its not like you can swim in it and I don't honestly know what its main purpose is. It is however an excellent place to exercise with multiple stations to stop and add a quick twist to your run. If people would actually run in the direction that the arrows are pointing and not get attitudes with those who are that would be cool. read more

I grew up on Windemere Avenue which ends at Hillen Road, so in the 50's and 60's, Lake Montebello was our home away from home. In the winter, the hills to the North of the lake provided us with never-ending sledding and during the summer, riding our bikes around the lake was a must before heading to Northwood shopping center for a malt at the Arundel. It's been many years since I've seen the lake but it's clear that Baltimore is taking very good care of it! read more

i recently discovered lake montebello.....i'm not from baltimore...i'm a washingtonian ! i really didn't want to walk on the city streets !!!....lake montebello is a great place to exercise...(walking...bike riding...or jogging).....but wear sun screen and don't forget your music ! i prefer early (not too early) morning and no weekends but definitely before 5 pm.. and for some reason some walkers just refuse to adhere to the signs and arrows for directions.... ***great for kids on the play ground....otherwise....bike and walking area should be off limits especially...but it wouldn't matter no one follow rules...or directions !!!! read more

I LOVE Lake Montebello! I will be bicycling, and roller skating there again, soon. For now, I will be walking at a leisurely pace, to enjoy and just drink in its beauty, interspersed with power walking/jogging, just for the heck of it.
