We absolutely love Bear Creek. It's our third year at the school and it has been a blessing. Our…read moredaughter came out of Covid from public school and unfortunately schools were trying to catch students up who were the most behind rather than teaching at grade level. The teachers, staff, administrators, and family community are amazing. The academics are challenging; they push the kids outside their comfort zones with opportunities for public speaking and large presentations. In fact, Bear Creek is now ranked 5th for best college preparatory high school in WA. They also teach the kids to be good citizens of the community at large. Whenever we have had an issue, the Division Head has helped and addressed the concern. The student body is diverse and we have never experienced any racism. I felt compelled to write this after seeing the one star review that unfairly paints the school in a negative light. Perhaps this school is not for everyone, however, that's why school tours and meet and greets are imperative. We actually toured the top ranking middle/high school, and knew immediately that it wasn't a good fit for our daughter and family. If you are looking for an academically focused school that is nurturing but still has high expectations, Bear Creek fits the bill.

I hate to post reviews about things that aren't the core business of a place -- in this case the…read moreschool itself. But since every other current review is about things other than academics, here goes. (I'll write about academics when my boy gets here for school.) My boy just started soccer "camp" at the school's sports field. The camp is staffed by the school's own girls' soccer team. What a great way to get a lot of coaches for younger kids than a team of players coaching and sharing a sport they love! The web page for the soccer camp is a part of the high school girls' team pages, so it's possible to mistake it for a camp for girls. No, it's just _staffed_ by the girls' teams. It's for girls and boys and nonbinary. The check-in wasn't as organized as a commercial "camp" (like the bicycle and Lego camps the boy has attended), but it was functional. Best I can tell, it was 100% volunteers, and everyone was smiling. The camp serves as a fundraiser for the teams, which is so much better for everyone than selling stuff. The camp includes a good quality t-shirt and a cheap backpack, plus three days of coaching, for $85 -- less than half the hourly price of the bike camp. The boy never admits to learning anything, because that would mean acknowledging that he doesn't know everything already. But he had fun, and played two matches with teams apparently assigned by t-shirt color. So, until the boy is old enough to attend high school himself, go team!

My interactions with Ruth Barton were fraught with difficulty. She was demeaning and insulting, often raising her voice and making sarcastic comments to adult volunteers as well as students. Her dictatorial manner did not contribute to the psychological well-being of anyone in her periphery. I would not recommend voluntarily working with this person, even though the facility is adequate.

I want to share my wonderful experience at Cascadia Montessori School over the last 5 years…read more In our interview, Mrs. Franklin said that compared to the rest of the kids heading to K, my daughter was behind academically because of her delay in speech. (My daughter, Emily did not say the words "Mommy and Daddy" until 3.5 years old. Emily would point instead of talking.) Mrs. Franklin indicated that to help my daughter accelerate, parent involvement in the school and homework are essential, and her strict vacation policy is not negotiable. Nevertheless, Mrs. Franklin accepted Emily to Cascadia for K. Mrs. Franklin takes the time to talk to each parent on the progress of their child. If your kid is doing well, she will tell you. If you kid is doing poorly, whether it is academically, an attitude adjustment or something not right, she will tell you. She spends time with every child, knows their behavior, strength and areas for improvement. The kids in Cascadia are loved, they treat their teachers and classmates with respect. The kids do not use foul language in school or at home. They are happy, idealistic, safe and can be kids at this age. At the same time, they are learning so much. Each summer starting from pre-K to 3th grade, the kids are given packets for the summer so that they will retain the work and not have to spend 2 months re-learning the work in the fall. The kids learn to type in 1st grade and proficient by 3rd grade. The kids start to write 3 to 5 to 10 page-type stories and essays by 3rd grade. By the 4th grade, the kids writing proficiency at the middle-school level. Fast forward to the present, Emily is in 4th grade. She is intelligent, witty, a vivacious reader and writer, and extremely talkative. My husband and I really appreciate the attention and love Cascadia Montessori has shown to our daughter.

Mrs Keeton's leadership and high bar for the teachers and students is amazing. Cascadia provides our kids with a safe environment (home away from home) where there is focus on academic rigor but also on whole child development. Mrs Keeton and all the teachers/staff genuinely care for the children and set a high bar for them both academically and socially. It is also very well recognized amongst other middle/high schools of the region (Overlake, EPS, Lakeside, Eastside Catholic etc) and Cascadia alum have made great impressions at these schools. If you are looking for a nurturing yet academically rigorous school, this is your place!

(DO NOT USE THIS AS INFO ABOUT THE SCHOOL)…read more Im new to RMS and its good, but kinda eh at some parts. On the TV screens in the lunch room, they use a AI image. No big deal right? They use stock images for everything else, but need to use crap AI slop for only 1 of the slides. My homeroom teacher also assigned me the wrong lunch and I was 14 minutes late to class, embarrassing myself in front of everyone. I also dont understand the 'NC' (No credit) grade because personally I think it makes us feel worse than a F, even though the whole point is to not. I mean, PE is chaotic, having 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have class ALL AT ONCE.. very fun getting hit with a basketball every minute by some brainless 7th grade boy. I do like that they added gender neutral bathrooms, and in some classes list your pronouns for the queer folks! I did get in trouble for trying to ask someone about a question and trying to make him my friend because we were 'disrupting class time', even though it was kinda a free minute. But I recommend not going to the field or outside beyond the patio during halftime, because its hard to run back to class from there, but yeah, so far I mean, its a fine school. Mid I guess, added points for crappy vending machine with apple juice

Some information- This school starts at 8:10 and ends at 2:40 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On Wednesday school is cut short starting at 8:10 and ending at 1:10. Lunches- Lunches are 4$ but the lunches are not great so I strongly recommend packing your own. At this school there is a pretty large amount of cyber bullying so keep that in mind and your child's friends will be vital to your kids school experience and learning here so make sure they are hanging around the right people. School Sports I Enjoyed - Wrestling is a really fun sport for both boys and girls. The friends and how confident it made me made it overall my favorite part of the year. Same with soccer. Teachers I Recommend- Mrs.Austin (Science) Very nice and you can tell she's really passionate about what she is teaching. Great educator with man years of experience. 100% recommend. Mrs.H (Admin) Really nice and cares about students. Very chill and has a great personality. Multiple years of experience. Ms.Valls (Spanish) Really funny and is a great educator. Favorite teacher. Ms.Endres- Very funny and is a good teacher. Mr.Manuel (Social Studies) Very nice and is passionate on what he is teaching. ------------------------------------------------------ Teachers I Would Try To Stay Away From- Mr.Fenwick (PE) Extremely unprofessional and rude to students and parents. He has sworn at several students and acts odd around female students which make them feel extremely uncomfortable. On the more concerning side, a kid recorded a white student saying the n word, trying to show the principal. Mr.Fenwick's response to this was to force the kid to open his phone by cornering the kid against the wall and pointing the phone at his face hoping the face ID would work while yelling at him for the password. After minutes of yelling at the kid, Mr.Fenwick stated he would keep it until the kid opened it. The kid explained he was losing weight and had photos of his progress in the photos app which he was not fully dressed. Mr. Fenwick went through the device regardless without the child's consent. Nothing was done about this and Mr.Fenwick denied everything even though there was cameras, and several witnesses. He continues to work here. Mr.Beshures (Woodworking) Always overreacting and overall is cringy and moody. He ruins woodworking class and recommend doesn't care about what anyone has to say. Worst educator in the school behind Fenwick. Mr.Haggerman (School Security Guard) Steer clear, he assumes the worst in people and if he sees you walking he will accuse you of skipping class. I don't know him well but he has done this to multiple students including myself. This school would be a 5 star experience without the presence of Mr.Fenwick and Mr.Beshures. This is Mr.Fenwick
