After a wonderful nanny-share at home--where we could closely observe and control every aspect of her day--my wife and I were understandably nervous about transitioning her to preschool. We did extensive research and toured nearly ten preschools and daycares. Willow Tree immediately stood out. From the very beginning, it was clear that the director, Liu, and the entire staff were genuinely loving and attentive caregivers. From her first day, Aviana loved going to school. Her development accelerated noticeably--she made friends, gained confidence, and even happily ate the school-made lunches. We initially had questions about the Mandarin immersion program and whether it might delay Aviana's English development. Liu reassured us that the opposite would be true, explaining that children's brains at that age are "like sponges," capable of absorbing far more than we often realize. She was absolutely right. Aviana's English continued to flourish, and her Mandarin grew from zero to a working knowledge of the language--truly incredible. To sum it up: if we had to do it all over again, we would choose Willow Tree without hesitation. Two years later, we enrolled our younger daughter, Amelia, when she was just a year and a half old. She began in the Bunny class, moved on to Penguin, and is now in Tiger. She loves it. Her Mandarin is now as strong as her English, even though we speak only English at home. On more than one occasion, I've caught Amelia dreaming in Mandarin--a constant reminder of how much she has learned in such a short time. Willow Tree has provided an exceptional academic and developmental foundation for both of our girls, along with a truly welcoming and supportive community. As Amelia prepares to graduate, we know we'll remain connected through the friendships our daughters have built and the families we've come to know beyond the classroom. We couldn't be more grateful for Willow Tree.

Willow Tree preschool has been a great experience for our daughter. She joined the Penguin class…read morejust after she turned 2 years old and her Mandarin Chinese has blossomed from the exposure at the school. I'm so surprised how much Chinese she can understand and speak and she can even sing songs in Chinese. While I can speak Chinese, I usually forget to so it's great to know she's able to learn it at school. The teachers we've been exposed to at WT have all been warm and inviting. Our daughter doesn't warm easily and the transition was long and difficult but the teachers embraced her with love and care. I was a little skeptical at first to hear there were 20 kids, such a big class, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Because there are 20 kids, there are also 3-4 teachers. By having extra teachers, this helps when a kid or two are having a meltdown or just need a little extra love and attention. With some of the kids in the class being older and being able to better regulate and play with themselves, this left the extra teachers to help with the younger, new kids who needed extra help. We attended a different preschool briefly before WT where there were 7 kids and 1 teacher and that teacher seemed to just be in survival mode because they couldn't get to all the kids that needed attention or assistance. Whereas the WT teachers always seemed happy and had good energy. We also love Liu, the director. She cares deeply for the kids and brings amazing energy. It's always a joy to run into her and catch up. Your kids will be in good hands at WT!

Woodland Park Cooperative School is a dream come true. After being a preschool teacher for about a…read moredecade, I had strong preferences for the experiences I wanted my kiddo to have. Woodland Park Coop checks all the boxes. Kids are not just allowed, but facilitated in genuinely exploring and experimenting and just being kids together. The multi-age program enables younger and older kids to learn from each other in ways same-age groups just don't. The community fostered in this space feels like home. Families linger to spend time after class is over, we meet up on off-days, we potluck together, and we help each other in our homes. This is no ordinary preschool experience. This is our children's school, but it's also ours. We learn together and we create it. It is us and we are it. We partner with the Teachers and the Parent Educator, we each have a job to keep the school running. We take care of each other and of each others' children. This is a community of mutual-aid and genuine generosity. I'm so happy we still have 3 more years to go because there's a Kindergarten program, too!! You couldn't ask for a better, more engaged and aware kindergarten teacher than Teacher Quinn. And because we all overlap on the playground every day, the youngest kids get to see the oldest kids engaged in the deep conversations, the complex play, and the hard work that they do. Sometimes the preschool kids even get to join in the kindergarten fun. The only problem is where to go for first grade. But that's a 2029 problem.

I have learned so much about early childhood development through the WPC parent education program (facilitated through North Seattle College). It's an all-around great experience. Communication from staff is excellent, every one of our concerns (very few) has always been addressed promptly. Every teacher seems to know every child's name. Although the assistant teachers change, the head teachers do not and this seems to keep continuity with no interruptions. There are more teachers than required by law and this really makes a difference. We've come in at all kinds of odd times of the day and in contrast to other childcare facilities (kid has gone to two others), the staff never seem to be struggling, it feels like a low stress environment, and the noise in the classroom is notably low. I would have loved this school as a child.

The educators here are not only exceptionally skilled, but also deeply compassionate, committed to seeing and nurturing the best in every child. The school fosters independence, confidence, and a strong sense of community. Some preschools strike me as chaotic, while others seem a bit too library-like; I think Northwest Montessori strikes a thoughtful balance between academic learning and play, ensuring a structured yet lively classroom environment. We've seen our kids develop a broad range of skills--motor, executive function, literacy, math, creativity--within a highly cooperative setting, and they have of course made many close friends. I also think that the Northwest Montessori team is deeply committed to INCLUSION, embracing children of all backgrounds and needs including neurodiverse learners. I've always felt that every staff member at NWM, from teachers to administrators, is dedicated to creating a space where each child feels at home and can reach their fullest potential. The Wedgwood campus has three classrooms, each mixed-age from 2.5yo to 6yo (thru Kindergarten). I wasn't sure how a mixed-age classroom would work at first, but honestly it's been so awesome--it's super cool to watch kiddos learn to mentor and teach one another, and my kids have picked up so many leadership skills from being in a mixed-age environment. They have a lovely little playground that is both secure and offers a wide variety of equipment, and the kiddos always have a wonderful time. This school has not only supported our child's growth, but has helped our family heal from previous bad experiences. Our older child has since graduated and is thriving in public school, while our younger one is still benefiting from this incredible learning environment. NW Montessori is all that I hoped a child care center would be and more. The teachers obviously love what they do, the director and other staff are the best at what they do, and I feel more at ease knowing that there is an option in Seattle like this establishment. My son has only been there a couple months, but I think its the best decision I have made. He is much happier there than Lil People's World.
