It is also possible to head out from here to one of the camping islands on the lake. Easily accessible with a sail boat, but also by paddling. One thing to note - squam is a no jet ski lake, although motorized boats are allowed.

Crew and Captain were well-versed in the history of the area. If you had questions they were open to answering or at times making a fun anecdote. So much history of the schooner, Bagheera, and the islands around Portland mainland. They handled the schooner with incredible poise and care. Some folks brought their own snacks and beverages on-board which wasn't advertised, but such a great idea. Definitely colder than I expected when the sun started setting and the winds picked up. Everything was delicious, turkey was moist, and the mashed butternut squash was divine. The apple crisp had apples so tender they melted in your mouth. The serving staff were so much fun and kind as well, shout out Carlos and his partner! The trees weren't too colorful yet but still beautiful scenery. The seats were not super comfortable but it's the price you pay for an authentic experience. The tables were surprisingly large. The train was very warm but felt better once we got moving. I recommend getting seats that are odd numbers because you'll be closer to the lake. The train goes down and back but does not turn around so if you get the lake side you'll get it on the way out and back. Also if you get table 1 you'll be served first!

All I can say, is it was unforgettable, it was beautiful, and it was something I would do again when it is Summer, even Winter when it is covered with winter wonderland!
