Welcome to Lakeland Electric, where they turn off your services over 6 dollars in less than an hour, poorly managing their system so you have to pay cash at AMSCOT to add fund to your account, and CURRENTLY having to wait for a tech to MANUALLY restore services. Customer Service is rude, especially Ms. Anne They charge way above industry standards per kWh, to the point where it is literally cheaper for me to charge my EV at a supercharger than to use my Level 2 charger I paid 2000 dollars for. This place is a joke and it is disheartening that us Lakelanders have no other choice but to have them as a service provider. They only realistically give two ways to pay, ACH or Kubra EZPay, which accepts Credit or Debit, with a 2.75 service fee. If Kubra is down, don't expect to get restored in a timely manner, because you are going to wait a day or two at the earliest! Update: Big Shocker...system is STILL down. Almost 24 hours without power!! I wish solar was in our budget instead of these people. read more

If you have auto draw with Lakeland electric and they are unable to get the money they will punish you and raise your deposit to $500.00. I have never been late on a payment. I have never had my electric turned off and I always pay so much a month which has given me almost a $10,000 credit. So when they tried to take the draw, they could not get the money.Because of that reason. They now say I have to have a $500 deposit. I was not late on my electric bill even when they tried for the auto draw. But I still got punished. Don't allow Lakeland electric to auto draw out of your bank account. Because if there's a reason why they can't get it, they will make you pay a deposit on your electric. So now I feel I cannot trust Lakeland electric any longer. I am having them cut me a check for my credit. I have to say this breaks my heart. I am 65 years old. I have never had to put a deposit down on my electric. And I don't think I'm going to try to be an ideal customer for them any longer. I'm gonna make them earn their money.Lol read more

Zero stars isn't an option unfortunately. They have no problem taking my money for payments, but when I call to get help the are rude, unfriendly, uncaring, and unhelpful. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. Got to give yet another great big KUDOS to this electric company. Reported a problem with electric at our resident at 1:44 pm and completely corrected by 4:10 and they had to go back to get a transformer. Doesn't get any better!!! read more

POS company, poor customer service, horrible service in general, they rob people in energy costs, all their services suck, very unreliable company, not very empathetic to anyones situation. And no grace period for cut off date no matter their issue. This company loves to turn off power to struggling families that have medically complex children! Tried using the website for Lakeland Electric and it is awful, they clearly did not do a focus group to assess use-ability. I wanted to update my auto pay of my bill and ran into many problems: I click on "edit" and sure enough you cannot edit! They why call it 'edit.' I called LE and they told me 'you have to delete the existing payment and re-enter the data.' After some discussion the customer service rep admits 'there is no instruction on the website telling you that.' I wanted to check the account numbers already entered in the website "Wallet"; guess what?--you cannot as the first digits are blocked -- yep, the edit key there also does not allow you to ... 'edit'; you have to delete the Wallet information and re-enter it if you want to make sure it was correct the first time. Of course, the supervisors cannot explain why it is this way and no IT will not return calls to explain why they set it up this way. The IT department takes no responsibility for the poor product they produce. This company is an example of Soviet ownership: when the government owns it, it does not have to serve or answer for how it serves. Get rid of Lakeland Electric. read more

Funny, I just talked to the guy that requested to talk to about the moneys from the removal of the old plant and we talked about the price of fuel plus the huge increase in our bills. The last thing I asked this guy is. If we all chaged over to electric cars right now could the power pland handle it? He said with a few adjustments it could with no problem. Think about this for a minute, i live less than two miles from the electric utility yard where all the linemen work and its been right at 5 fays without electricity for me and my family and everyone else on the street and every morning they all drive right by us as the head out across town to get peoples electic on. I am blown away. They cant keep peoples electric on in a storm yet alone in a hurricane and with hundreds of other states sending men and equipment to help they still cant get people electric on even when it two blocks away. But they can handel it if everyone in polk county had electric cars??? Imagine what it would be like if we all had electric. Ars in lakeland and also in Florida. There would be people stranded everywhere and Ft myers and that area would be bodies everywhere by the thousands. Not including all the other cities and countys. In a nut shell. Lakeland city officials are more worried about groth than anything and they can even handle what we have or had before they started building places everywhere in lakeland. Extremely rude customer service representatives. They act bothered that you even call them. If you don't want to be a customer service rep, find another job! I simply have been trying to get the electric from my old apartment cut off since the 5th of September BEFORE THE STORM HIT. The last woman I talked to informed me that I wouldn't be charged for the days after my lease since I have already moved to NEW YORK CITY. The woman I spoke to this morning is now telling me that I will continue to be charged until they decide to go out and look at the meter. Unfairly targeting their solar customers with a peak demand rate while regular customers aren't subject to this rate. Asked whether solar customers are charged this rate when its rainy or on a cloudy day during m-f peak when solar can't generate and got a reply that the peak demand is charged no matter what the weather conditions are. So when solar customers cant produce due to weather, this is the time that Lakeland Electric makes they money at over $5 a kWh. Completely unfair and nothing but a bunch of money grabbers! read more

Today they shut off my elderly moms electric. The gentleman saw my mom sitting at the kitchen table through the window and just went ahead, no knock on the door, no 24 hour notice, no telegram. Straight to off, bill 30 days late. My brother pays my moms bill every month. He signed up for online notices five days before due date etc. There was absolutely no notice given. It is a retirement community...they should be ashamed of themselves. No phone call or anything. I luckily have Duke energy and on the one occasion that I forgot about a bill they still didn't shut my electricity! The next bill showed up and I saw it was for two months. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. Last month, my coworker's online payment didn't process properly despite online confirmation, then they unexpectedly shut off her power without any late notice whatsoever. Despite the error and lack of notice, their "records" indicated they had sent her late notices. So not only did her power get turned off erroneously, she was CHARGED late fees and reinstatement fees for it. I should have taken this event as a warning sign. Now, the same EXACT thing is happening to us. Despite paying our bill on the 17th and receiving browser confirmation that the payment processed, the money never came out of the account. If that weren't bad enough, while we were waiting for the money to withdraw from our account, we never ONCE received a single late notice. No paper statement, no email, no phone call, NOTHING. The online operator "couldn't tell me the date on the paper notice they sent out because it arrives from Kentucky" and furthermore, told me "NOT TO RELY ON THE LATE NOTICE" I asked what I could rely on to know whether or not there was a problem processing my payment.... NO ANSWER. The worst part about ALL of this? Lakeland Electric has monopolized the energy business in Polk County, which means I CAN'T LEAVE when I'm dissatisfied with their service. I think when a person (my husband) is fighting for his life from a medical condition that Lakeland Electric should be more open to payment arrangements other than if you have one you can't get another for 3 months...especially when you pay your scheduled arrangements on time. My husband is on home dialysis and we need electricity but it's hard with just me working and paying the bills. Lakeland Electric monopolizes Polk County so we have no other options. I am extremely ticked off and frustrated. My husband and I bought a house for our bi-polar son, fiance and 1 year old baby, closed on it and called this company the next day to put service in fiance's name to establish credit. I was told she had to call to set up the account which she did that night after work but they told her they needed a $180 deposit which she does not have. So, I called this morning just before 9 a.m. to pay the deposit and was told that she would need to call back to confirm service after the deposit was paid. I told the representative that she'd call during her morning break at work. NO ONE told her last night or me this morning that the service was on the shut off list for this morning NOR did they take it off after receiving the deposit $. My son called me around 90 minutes later to tell me he has no power and cannot feed the baby....he was freaking out to the extreme due to his bi-polar. I called this company and they did not care that there was a baby and told me it wouldn't matter if someone was on oxygen, it will be turned back on by 8 p.m. once the fiance called to confirm service on new account already set up last night! I asked to speak with a manager to no avail - they will not escalate, etc. And we are first time NEW customers - are you kidding!! No warning, but shut it off????
